1 I n the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 T he same was in the beginning with God.

3 A ll things were made through him. Without him was not anything made that has been made.

Todas las cosas fueron hechas por medio de El, y sin El nada de lo que ha sido hecho, fue hecho.

4 I n him was life, and the life was the light of men.

En El estaba la vida, y la vida era la luz de los hombres.

5 T he light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it.

Y la luz brilla en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no la comprendieron.

6 T here came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.

Vino al mundo un hombre enviado por Dios, cuyo nombre era Juan.

7 T he same came as a witness, that he might testify about the light, that all might believe through him.

Este vino como testigo, para testificar de la luz, a fin de que todos creyeran por medio de él.

8 H e was not the light, but was sent that he might testify about the light.

No era él la luz, sino que vino para dar testimonio de la luz.

9 T he true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.

Existía la luz verdadera que, al venir al mundo, alumbra a todo hombre.

10 H e was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn’t recognize him.

En el mundo estaba, y el mundo fue hecho por medio de El, y el mundo no le conoció.

11 H e came to his own, and those who were his own didn’t receive him.

A lo suyo vino, y los suyos no le recibieron.

12 B ut as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in his name:

Pero a todos los que le recibieron, les dio el derecho de llegar a ser hijos de Dios, es decir, a los que creen en su nombre,

13 w ho were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

que no nacieron de sangre, ni de la voluntad de la carne, ni de la voluntad del hombre, sino de Dios. El Verbo se hace carne

14 T he Word became flesh, and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the one and only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Y el Verbo se hizo carne, y habitó entre nosotros, y vimos su gloria, gloria como del unigénito del Padre, lleno de gracia y de verdad.

15 J ohn testified about him. He cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me, for he was before me.’”

Juan dio testimonio de El y clamó, diciendo: Este era del que yo decía: “El que viene después de mí, es antes de mí, porque era primero que yo.”

16 F rom his fullness we all received grace upon grace.

Pues de su plenitud todos hemos recibido, y gracia sobre gracia.

17 F or the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

Porque la ley fue dada por medio de Moisés; la gracia y la verdad fueron hechas realidad por medio de Jesucristo.

18 N o one has seen God at any time. The one and only Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him.

Nadie ha visto jamás a Dios; el unigénito Dios, que está en el seno del Padre, El le ha dado a conocer. Testimonio de Juan el Bautista

19 T his is John’s testimony, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?”

Este es el testimonio de Juan, cuando los judíos enviaron sacerdotes y levitas de Jerusalén a preguntarle: ¿Quién eres tú?

20 H e declared, and didn’t deny, but he declared, “I am not the Christ.”

Y él confesó y no negó; confesó: Yo no soy el Cristo.

21 T hey asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the prophet?” He answered, “No.”

Y le preguntaron: ¿Entonces, qué? ¿Eres Elías ? Y él dijo: No soy. ¿Eres el profeta ? Y respondió: No.

22 T hey said therefore to him, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”

Entonces le dijeron: ¿Quién eres?, para que podamos dar respuesta a los que nos enviaron. ¿Qué dices de ti mismo?

23 H e said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

El dijo: Yo soy la voz del que clama en el desierto: “Enderezad el camino del Señor ”, como dijo el profeta Isaías.

24 T he ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.

Los que habían sido enviados eran de los fariseos.

25 T hey asked him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”

Y le preguntaron, y le dijeron: Entonces, ¿por qué bautizas, si tú no eres el Cristo, ni Elías, ni el profeta ?

26 J ohn answered them, “I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.

Juan les respondió, diciendo: Yo bautizo en agua, pero entre vosotros está Uno a quien no conocéis.

27 H e is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”

El es el que viene después de mí, a quien yo no soy digno de desatar la correa de su sandalia.

28 T hese things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

Estas cosas sucedieron en Betania, al otro lado del Jordán, donde Juan estaba bautizando. El Cordero de Dios

29 T he next day, he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Al día siguiente vio a Jesús que venía hacia él, y dijo: He ahí el Cordero de Dios que quita el pecado del mundo.

30 T his is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is preferred before me, for he was before me.’

Este es aquel de quien yo dije: “Después de mí viene un hombre que es antes de mí porque era primero que yo.”

31 I didn’t know him, but for this reason I came baptizing in water: that he would be revealed to Israel.”

Y yo no le conocía, pero para que El fuera manifestado a Israel, por esto yo vine bautizando en agua.

32 J ohn testified, saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending like a dove out of heaven, and it remained on him.

Juan dio también testimonio, diciendo: He visto al Espíritu que descendía del cielo como paloma, y se posó sobre El.

33 I didn’t recognize him, but he who sent me to baptize in water, he said to me, ‘On whomever you will see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’

Y yo no le conocía, pero el que me envió a bautizar en agua me dijo: “Aquel sobre quien veas al Espíritu descender y posarse sobre El, éste es el que bautiza en el Espíritu Santo.”

34 I have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”

Y yo le he visto y he dado testimonio de que éste es el Hijo de Dios. Los primeros discípulos

35 A gain, the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples,

Al día siguiente Juan estaba otra vez allí con dos de sus discípulos,

36 a nd he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”

y vio a Jesús que pasaba, y dijo: He ahí el Cordero de Dios.

37 T he two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

Y los dos discípulos le oyeron hablar, y siguieron a Jesús.

38 J esus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), “where are you staying?”

Jesús se volvió, y viendo que le seguían, les dijo: ¿Qué buscáis? Y ellos le dijeron: Rabí (que traducido quiere decir, Maestro), ¿dónde te hospedas?

39 H e said to them, “Come, and see.” They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.

El les dijo: Venid y veréis. Entonces fueron y vieron dónde se hospedaba; y se quedaron con El aquel día, porque era como la hora décima.

40 O ne of the two who heard John, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.

Uno de los dos que oyeron a Juan y siguieron a Jesús era Andrés, hermano de Simón Pedro.

41 H e first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which is, being interpreted, Christ ).

El encontró primero a su hermano Simón, y le dijo: Hemos hallado al Mesías (que traducido quiere decir, Cristo ).

42 H e brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is by interpretation, Peter).

Entonces lo trajo a Jesús. Jesús mirándolo, dijo: Tú eres Simón, hijo de Juan; tú serás llamado Cefas (que quiere decir: Pedro ). Felipe y Natanael

43 O n the next day, he was determined to go out into Galilee, and he found Philip. Jesus said to him, “Follow me.”

Al día siguiente Jesús se propuso salir para Galilea, y encontró a Felipe, y le dijo: Sígueme.

44 N ow Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.

Felipe era de Betsaida, de la ciudad de Andrés y de Pedro.

45 P hilip found Nathanael, and said to him, “We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

Felipe encontró a Natanael y le dijo: Hemos hallado a aquel de quien escribió Moisés en la ley, y también los profetas, a Jesús de Nazaret, el hijo de José.

46 N athanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

Y Natanael le dijo: ¿Puede algo bueno salir de Nazaret ? Felipe le dijo: Ven, y ve.

47 J esus saw Nathanael coming to him, and said about him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”

Jesús vio venir a Natanael y dijo de él: He aquí un verdadero israelita en quien no hay engaño.

48 N athanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”

Natanael le dijo: ¿Cómo es que me conoces? Jesús le respondió y le dijo: Antes de que Felipe te llamara, cuando estabas debajo de la higuera, te vi.

49 N athanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are King of Israel!”

Natanael le respondió: Rabí, tú eres el Hijo de Dios, tú eres el Rey de Israel.

50 J esus answered him, “Because I told you, ‘I saw you underneath the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these!”

Respondió Jesús y le dijo: ¿Porque te dije que te vi debajo de la higuera, crees? Cosas mayores que éstas verás.

51 H e said to him, “Most certainly, I tell you, hereafter you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

Y le dijo: En verdad, en verdad os digo que veréis el cielo abierto y a los ángeles de Dios subiendo y bajando sobre el Hijo del Hombre.
