1 I n the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

Y sucedió que en el año cuarto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, vino esta palabra a Jeremías de parte del Señor, diciendo:

2 T ake a scroll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day.

Toma un rollo y escribe en él todas las palabras que te he hablado acerca de Israel, acerca de Judá y acerca de todas las naciones, desde el día que te hablé, desde los días de Josías, hasta hoy.

3 I t may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

Tal vez la casa de Judá oiga toda la calamidad que pienso traer sobre ellos, y se vuelva cada uno de su mal camino; entonces perdonaré su iniquidad y su pecado.

4 T hen Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all Yahweh’s words, which he had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book.

Llamó, pues, Jeremías a Baruc, hijo de Nerías, y Baruc escribió al dictado de Jeremías, en un rollo, todas las palabras que el Señor le había hablado.

5 J eremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I can’t go into Yahweh’s house:

Y Jeremías dio órdenes a Baruc diciendo: Estoy detenido; no puedo entrar en la casa del Señor.

6 t herefore you go, and read in the scroll, which you have written from my mouth, Yahweh’s words in the ears of the people in Yahweh’s house on the fast day; and also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities.

Ve, pues, y lee en el rollo que has escrito al dictado mío, las palabras del Señor a oídos del pueblo, en la casa del Señor un día de ayuno. Y también las leerás a oídos de todos los de Judá que vienen de sus ciudades.

7 I t may be they will present their supplication before Yahweh, and will return everyone from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Yahweh has pronounced against this people.

Tal vez su súplica llegue delante del Señor, y todos se vuelvan de su mal camino, porque grande es la ira y el furor que el Señor ha pronunciado contra este pueblo.

8 B aruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book Yahweh’s words in Yahweh’s house.

Y Baruc, hijo de Nerías, hizo conforme a todo lo que el profeta Jeremías le había mandado, y leyó en el libro las palabras del Señor, en la casa del Señor.

9 N ow in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Yahweh.

Y en el año quinto de Joacim, hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, en el mes noveno, proclamaron ayuno delante del Señor a todo el pueblo en Jerusalén y a todo el pueblo que vino de las ciudades de Judá a Jerusalén.

10 T hen Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the book in Yahweh’s house, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house, in the ears of all the people.

Y Baruc leyó en el libro las palabras de Jeremías a oídos de todo el pueblo en la casa del Señor, en la cámara de Gemarías, hijo del escriba Safán, en el atrio superior, a la entrada de la puerta Nueva de la casa del Señor.

11 W hen Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all Yahweh’s words,

Al oír Micaías, hijo de Gemarías, hijo de Safán, todas las palabras del Señor que estaban en el libro,

12 h e went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s room: and behold, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

descendió a la casa del rey, a la cámara del escriba. Y he aquí, estaban sentados allí todos los oficiales: el escriba Elisama, Delaía, hijo de Semaías, Elnatán, hijo de Acbor, Gemarías, hijo de Safán, Sedequías, hijo de Ananías, y todos los demás oficiales.

13 T hen Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

Y Micaías les declaró todas las palabras que había oído cuando Baruc leyó en el libro a oídos del pueblo.

14 T herefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in your hand the scroll in which you have read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand, and came to them.

Entonces todos los oficiales enviaron a Jehudí, hijo de Netanías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Cusi, a decir a Baruc: Toma en tu mano el rollo en el que has leído a oídos del pueblo y ven. Y Baruc, hijo de Nerías, tomó el rollo en su mano y fue a ellos.

15 T hey said to him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

Y le dijeron: Siéntate ahora, y léenoslo. Y Baruc se lo leyó.

16 N ow when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, “We will surely tell the king of all these words.”

Y sucedió que cuando oyeron todas las palabras, se miraron unos a otros atemorizados, y dijeron a Baruc: Ciertamente haremos saber al rey todas estas palabras.

17 T hey asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How did you write all these words at his mouth?

Y preguntaron a Baruc, diciendo: Cuéntanos ahora cómo escribiste todas estas palabras. ¿Fue al dictado suyo ?

18 T hen Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

Baruc les respondió: El me dictó todas estas palabras y yo las escribí con tinta en el libro.

19 T hen the princes said to Baruch, Go, hide, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you are.

Entonces los oficiales dijeron a Baruc: Ve, escóndete, tú y Jeremías, y que nadie sepa donde estáis. El rollo quemado y escrito de nuevo

20 T hey went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the scroll in the room of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king.

Y entraron al atrio donde estaba el rey, después de haber depositado el rollo en la cámara del escriba Elisama, y contaron a oídos del rey todas las palabras.

21 S o the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll; and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood beside the king.

Entonces envió el rey a Jehudí a buscar el rollo, y éste lo tomó de la cámara del escriba Elisama. Y Jehudí lo leyó al rey y a todos los oficiales que estaban junto al rey.

22 N ow the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month: and there was a fire in the brazier burning before him.

Y el rey estaba sentado en la casa de invierno (era el mes noveno ), y había un brasero encendido delante de él.

23 W hen Jehudi had read three or four leaves, the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

Y sucedía que después que Jehudí había leído tres o cuatro columnas, el rey lo cortaba con el cuchillo del escriba y lo echaba al fuego que estaba en el brasero, hasta terminar con todo el rollo en el fuego que estaba en el brasero.

24 T hey were not afraid, nor tore their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words.

Ni el rey ni ninguno de sus siervos que oyeron todas estas palabras tuvieron temor ni rasgaron sus vestiduras.

25 M oreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the scroll; but he would not hear them.

Y aunque Elnatán y Delaía y Gemarías rogaron al rey que no quemara el rollo, él no les hizo caso.

26 T he king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Yahweh hid them.

Luego el rey ordenó a Jerameel, hijo del rey, a Seraías, hijo de Azriel, y a Selemías, hijo de Abdeel, prender al escriba Baruc y al profeta Jeremías, pero el Señor los escondió.

27 T hen Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

Entonces vino la palabra del Señor a Jeremías, después que el rey había quemado el rollo y las palabras que Baruc había escrito al dictado de Jeremías, diciendo:

28 T ake again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.

Vuelve a tomar otro rollo y escribe en él todas las palabras que antes había en el primer rollo que quemó Joacim, rey de Judá.

29 C oncerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, Yahweh says: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from there man and animal?

Y a Joacim, rey de Judá, dirás: “Así dice el Señor: ‘Tú has quemado este rollo, diciendo: “¿Por qué has escrito en él que ciertamente vendrá el rey de Babilonia y destruirá esta tierra, y hará desaparecer de ella a hombres y animales?”’

30 T herefore Yahweh says concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He will have no one to sit on David’s throne; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

“Por tanto, así dice el Señor acerca de Joacim, rey de Judá: ‘No tendrá quien se siente sobre el trono de David, y su cadáver quedará tirado al calor del día y a la escarcha de la noche.

31 I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen.

‘Lo castigaré, a él, a su descendencia y a sus siervos por su iniquidad, y traeré sobre ellos, sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén y sobre los hombres de Judá toda la calamidad que les he anunciado, sin que ellos escucharan.’”

32 T hen took Jeremiah another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them.

Entonces Jeremías tomó otro rollo y se lo dio al escriba Baruc, hijo de Nerías, y éste escribió en él al dictado de Jeremías todas las palabras del libro que Joacim, rey de Judá, había quemado en el fuego, y aun se le añadieron muchas palabras semejantes.
