1 T here was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

Y hubo hambre en la tierra, además del hambre anterior que había ocurrido durante los días de Abraham. Y se fue Isaac a Gerar, a Abimelec, rey de los filisteos.

2 Y ahweh appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.

Y se le apareció el Señor, y dijo: No desciendas a Egipto; quédate en la tierra que yo te diré.

3 L ive in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

Reside en esta tierra y yo estaré contigo y te bendeciré, porque a ti y a tu descendencia daré todas estas tierras, y confirmaré contigo el juramento que juré a tu padre Abraham.

4 I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and will give all these lands to your offspring. In your offspring will all the nations of the earth be blessed,

Y multiplicaré tu descendencia como las estrellas del cielo, y daré a tu descendencia todas estas tierras; y en tu simiente serán bendecidas todas las naciones de la tierra,

5 b ecause Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

porque Abraham me obedeció, y guardó mi ordenanza, mis mandamientos, mis estatutos y mis leyes. Isaac engaña a Abimelec

6 I saac lived in Gerar.

Habitó, pues, Isaac en Gerar.

7 T he men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife”, lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”

Y cuando los hombres de aquel lugar le preguntaron acerca de su mujer, él dijo: Es mi hermana; porque tenía temor de decir: Es mi mujer. Porque pensaba: no sea que los hombres del lugar me maten por causa de Rebeca, pues es de hermosa apariencia.

8 W hen he had been there a long time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.

Y sucedió que después de haber estado allí largo tiempo, Abimelec, rey de los filisteos, miró por una ventana, y he aquí, vio a Isaac acariciando a Rebeca su mujer.

9 A bimelech called Isaac, and said, “Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister?’” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die because of her.’”

Entonces Abimelec llamó a Isaac, y le dijo: He aquí ciertamente ella es tu mujer. ¿Cómo, pues, dijiste: “Es mi hermana”? E Isaac le respondió: Porque me dije: “No sea que yo muera por causa de ella.”

10 A bimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”

Y Abimelec dijo: ¿Qué es esto que nos has hecho ? Porque alguno del pueblo fácilmente pudiera haberse acostado con tu mujer, y hubieras traído culpa sobre nosotros.

11 A bimelech commanded all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”

Y Abimelec ordenó a todo el pueblo, diciendo: El que toque a este hombre o a su mujer, de cierto morirá. Bendición de Dios sobre Isaac

12 I saac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.

Y sembró Isaac en aquella tierra, y cosechó aquel año ciento por uno. Y el Señor lo bendijo.

13 T he man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great.

Y el hombre se enriqueció, y siguió engrandeciéndose hasta que llegó a ser muy poderoso;

14 H e had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.

pues tenía rebaños de ovejas y vacadas y mucha servidumbre, y los filisteos le tenían envidia.

15 N ow all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth.

Y todos los pozos que los siervos de su padre habían cavado en los días de Abraham su padre, los filisteos los cegaron llenándolos de tierra.

16 A bimelech said to Isaac, “Go from us, for you are much mightier than we.”

Entonces Abimelec dijo a Isaac: Vete de aquí, porque tú eres mucho más poderoso que nosotros.

17 I saac departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there.

Isaac partió de allí, acampó en el valle de Gerar y se estableció allí.

18 I saac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father. For the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

Isaac volvió a cavar los pozos de agua que habían sido cavados en los días de su padre Abraham, porque los filisteos los habían cegado después de la muerte de Abraham, y les puso los mismos nombres que su padre les había puesto.

19 I saac’s servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.

Cuando los siervos de Isaac cavaron en el valle encontraron allí un pozo de aguas vivas.

20 T he herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” He called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.

Entonces riñeron los pastores de Gerar con los pastores de Isaac, diciendo: El agua es nuestra. Por eso él llamó al pozo Esek, porque habían reñido con él.

21 T hey dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called its name Sitnah.

Cavaron otro pozo, y también riñeron por él; por eso lo llamó Sitna.

22 H e left that place, and dug another well. They didn’t argue over that one. He called it Rehoboth. He said, “For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”

Y se trasladó de allí y cavó otro pozo, y no riñeron por él; por eso lo llamó Rehobot, porque dijo: Al fin el Señor ha hecho lugar para nosotros, y prosperaremos en la tierra.

23 H e went up from there to Beersheba.

De allí subió a Beerseba.

24 Y ahweh appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your offspring for my servant Abraham’s sake.”

Y el Señor se le apareció aquella misma noche, y le dijo: Yo soy el Dios de tu padre Abraham; no temas, porque yo estoy contigo. Y te bendeciré y multiplicaré tu descendencia, por amor de mi siervo Abraham.

25 H e built an altar there, and called on Yahweh’s name, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac’s servants dug a well.

Y él construyó allí un altar e invocó el nombre del Señor y plantó allí su tienda; y allí abrieron los siervos de Isaac un pozo. Pacto entre Isaac y Abimelec

26 T hen Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his army.

Entonces Abimelec vino a él desde Gerar, con su consejero Ahuzat y con Ficol, jefe de su ejército.

27 I saac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?”

Y les dijo Isaac: ¿Por qué habéis venido a mí, vosotros que me odiáis y me habéis echado de entre vosotros ?

28 T hey said, “We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you,

Y ellos respondieron: Vemos claramente que el Señor ha estado contigo, así es que dijimos: “Haya ahora un juramento entre nosotros, entre tú y nosotros, y hagamos un pacto contigo,

29 t hat you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.’ You are now the blessed of Yahweh.”

de que no nos harás ningún mal, así como nosotros no te hemos tocado y sólo te hemos hecho bien, y te hemos despedido en paz. Tú eres ahora el bendito del Señor.”

30 H e made them a feast, and they ate and drank.

Entonces él les preparó un banquete, y comieron y bebieron.

31 T hey rose up some time in the morning, and swore to one another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

Y se levantaron muy de mañana y se hicieron mutuo juramento; entonces Isaac los despidió y ellos partieron de su lado en paz.

32 T he same day, Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.”

Y sucedió que aquel mismo día los siervos de Isaac llegaron y le informaron acerca del pozo que habían cavado, y le dijeron: Hemos hallado agua.

33 H e called it Shibah. Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba to this day.

Y lo llamó Seba; por eso el nombre de la ciudad es Beerseba hasta hoy.

34 W hen Esau was forty years old, he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

Cuando Esaú tenía cuarenta años, se casó con Judit, hija de Beeri hitita, y con Basemat, hija de Elón hitita;

35 T hey grieved Isaac’s and Rebekah’s spirits.

y ellas hicieron la vida insoportable para Isaac y Rebeca.
