1 Y aconteció que cuando Jesús entró en casa de uno de los principales de los fariseos un día de reposo para comer pan, ellos le estaban observando cuidadosamente.

And it came to pass, when he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him.

2 Y allí, frente a El, estaba un hombre hidrópico.

And behold, there was before him a certain man that had the dropsy.

3 Y dirigiéndose Jesús, a los intérpretes de la ley y a los fariseos, les habló diciendo: ¿Es lícito sanar en el día de reposo, o no ?

And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath, or not?

4 P ero ellos guardaron silencio. Y El, tomándolo de la mano, lo sanó y lo despidió.

But they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go.

5 Y a ellos les dijo: ¿A quién de vosotros se le cae un hijo o un buey en un hoyo en día de reposo, y no lo saca inmediatamente ?

And he said unto them, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a well, and will not straightway draw him up on a sabbath day?

6 Y no pudieron responderle a esto. Lección sobre la humildad

And they could not answer again unto these things.

7 Y comenzó a referir una parábola a los invitados, cuando advirtió cómo escogían los lugares de honor a la mesa, diciéndoles:

And he spake a parable unto those that were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief seats; saying unto them,

8 C uando seas invitado por alguno a un banquete de bodas, no tomes el lugar de honor, no sea que él haya invitado a otro más distinguido que tú,

When thou art bidden of any man to a marriage feast, sit not down in the chief seat; lest haply a more honorable man than thou be bidden of him,

9 y viniendo el que te invitó a ti y a él, te diga: “Dale el lugar a éste”; y entonces, avergonzado, tengas que irte al último lugar.

and he that bade thee and him shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and then thou shalt begin with shame to take the lowest place.

10 S ino que cuando seas invitado, ve y siéntate en el último lugar, para que cuando llegue el que te invitó, te diga: “Amigo, ven más adelante ”; entonces serás honrado delante de todos los que se sientan a la mesa contigo.

But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest place; that when he that hath bidden thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have glory in the presence of all that sit at meat with thee.

11 P orque todo el que se ensalce, será humillado; y el que se humille será ensalzado.

For everyone that exalteth himself shall be humbled; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

12 Y dijo también al que le había convidado: Cuando ofrezcas una comida o una cena, no llames a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a tus vecinos ricos, no sea que ellos a su vez también te conviden y tengas ya tu recompensa.

And he said to him also that had bidden him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor rich neighbors; lest haply they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee.

13 A ntes bien, cuando ofrezcas un banquete, llama a pobres, mancos, cojos, ciegos,

But when thou makest a feast, bid the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

14 y serás bienaventurado, ya que ellos no tienen para recompensarte; pues tú serás recompensado en la resurrección de los justos. Parábola de la gran cena

and thou shalt be blessed; because they have not wherewith to recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed in the resurrection of the just.

15 C uando uno de los que estaban sentados con El a la mesa oyó esto, le dijo: ¡Bienaventurado todo el que coma pan en el reino de Dios!

And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

16 P ero El le dijo: Cierto hombre dio una gran cena, e invitó a muchos;

But he said unto him, A certain man made a great supper; and he bade many:

17 y a la hora de la cena envió a su siervo a decir a los que habían sido invitados: “Venid, porque ya todo está preparado.”

and he sent forth his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

18 Y todos a una comenzaron a excusarse. El primero le dijo: “He comprado un terreno y necesito ir a verlo; te ruego que me excuses.”

And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a field, and I must needs go out and see it; I pray thee have me excused.

19 Y otro dijo: “He comprado cinco yuntas de bueyes y voy a probarlos; te ruego que me excuses.”

And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them; I pray thee have me excused.

20 T ambién otro dijo: “Me he casado, y por eso no puedo ir.”

And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

21 C uando el siervo regresó, informó de todo esto a su señor. Entonces, enojado el dueño de la casa, dijo a su siervo: “Sal enseguida por las calles y callejones de la ciudad, y trae acá a los pobres, los mancos, los ciegos y los cojos.”

And the servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and maimed and blind and lame.

22 Y el siervo dijo: “Señor, se ha hecho lo que ordenaste, y todavía hay lugar.”

And the servant said, Lord, what thou didst command is done, and yet there is room.

23 E ntonces el señor dijo al siervo: “Sal a los caminos y por los cercados, y oblíga los a entrar para que se llene mi casa.

And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and constrain them to come in, that my house may be filled.

24 “ Porque os digo que ninguno de aquellos hombres que fueron invitados probará mi cena.” El costo del discipulado

For I say unto you, that none of those men that were bidden shall taste of my supper.

25 G randes multitudes le acompañaban; y El, volviéndose, les dijo:

Now there went with him great multitudes: and he turned, and said unto them,

26 S i alguno viene a mí, y no aborrece a su padre y madre, a su mujer e hijos, a sus hermanos y hermanas, y aun hasta su propia vida, no puede ser mi discípulo.

If any man cometh unto me, and hateth not his own father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

27 E l que no carga su cruz y viene en pos de mí, no puede ser mi discípulo.

Whosoever doth not bear his own cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

28 P orque, ¿quién de vosotros, deseando edificar una torre, no se sienta primero y calcula el costo, para ver si tiene lo suficiente para terminarla?

For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doth not first sit down and count the cost, whether he have wherewith to complete it?

29 N o sea que cuando haya echado los cimientos y no pueda terminar, todos los que lo vean comiencen a burlarse de él,

Lest haply, when he hath laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, all that behold begin to mock him,

30 d iciendo: “Este hombre comenzó a edificar y no pudo terminar.”

saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

31 ¿ O qué rey, cuando sale al encuentro de otro rey para la batalla, no se sienta primero y delibera si con diez mil hombres es bastante fuerte como para enfrentarse al que viene contra él con veinte mil ?

Or what king, as he goeth to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and take counsel whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

32 Y si no, cuando el otro todavía está lejos, le envía una delegación y pide condiciones de paz.

Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and asketh conditions of peace.

33 A sí pues, cualquiera de vosotros que no renuncie a todas sus posesiones, no puede ser mi discípulo.

So therefore whosoever he be of you that renounceth not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

34 P or tanto, buena es la sal, pero si también la sal ha perdido su sabor, ¿con qué será sazonada ?

Salt therefore is good: but if even the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35 N o es útil ni para la tierra ni para el muladar; la arrojan fuera. El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga.

It is fit neither for the land nor for the dunghill: men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
