1 Y el Señor habló a Moisés, diciendo:

And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

2 T ú mismo envía hombres a fin de que reconozcan la tierra de Canaán, que voy a dar a los hijos de Israel; enviarás un hombre de cada una de las tribus de sus padres, cada uno de ellos jefe entre ellos.

Send thou men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a man, every one a prince among them.

3 E ntonces Moisés los envió desde el desierto de Parán, al mandato del Señor; todos aquellos hombres eran jefes de los hijos de Israel.

And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of Jehovah: all of them men who were heads of the children of Israel.

4 Y estos eran sus nombres: de la tribu de Rubén, Samúa, hijo de Zacur;

And these were their names: Of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.

5 d e la tribu de Simeón, Safat, hijo de Hori;

Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.

6 d e la tribu de Judá, Caleb, hijo de Jefone;

Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.

7 d e la tribu de Isacar, Igal, hijo de José;

Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.

8 d e la tribu de Efraín, Oseas, hijo de Nun;

Of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun.

9 d e la tribu de Benjamín, Palti, hijo de Rafú;

Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.

10 d e la tribu de Zabulón, Gadiel, hijo de Sodi;

Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.

11 d e la tribu de los hijos de José: de la tribu de Manasés, Gadi, hijo de Susi;

Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.

12 d e la tribu de Dan, Amiel, hijo de Gemali;

Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.

13 d e la tribu de Aser, Setur, hijo de Micael;

Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.

14 d e la tribu de Neftalí, Nahbi, hijo de Vapsi;

Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.

15 d e la tribu de Gad, Geuel, hijo de Maqui.

Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

16 A sí se llamaban los hombres a quienes Moisés envió a reconocer la tierra; pero a Oseas, hijo de Nun, Moisés lo llamó Josué.

These are the names of the men that Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.

17 C uando Moisés los envió a reconocer la tierra de Canaán, les dijo: Subid allá, al Neguev; después subid a la región montañosa.

And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way by the South, and go up into the hill-country:

18 V ed cómo es la tierra, y si la gente que habita en ella es fuerte o débil, si son pocos o muchos;

and see the land, what it is; and the people that dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many;

19 y cómo es la tierra en que viven, si es buena o mala; y cómo son las ciudades en que habitan, si son como campamentos abiertos o con fortificaciones;

and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds;

20 y cómo es el terreno, si fértil o estéril. ¿Hay allí árboles o no? Procurad obtener algo del fruto de la tierra. (Aquel tiempo era el tiempo de las primeras uvas maduras.)

and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there is wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes.

21 E ntonces ellos subieron y reconocieron la tierra desde el desierto de Zin hasta Rehob, en Lebo-hamat.

So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, to the entrance of Hamath.

22 Y subieron por el Neguev, y llegaron hasta Hebrón, donde estaban Ahimán, Sesai y Talmai, los descendientes de Anac. (Hebrón fue edificada siete años antes que Zoán en Egipto.)

And they went up by the South, and came unto Hebron; and Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

23 Y llegaron hasta el valle de Escol y de allí cortaron un sarmiento con un solo racimo de uvas; y lo llevaban en un palo entre dos hombres, con algunas de las granadas y de los higos.

And they came unto the valley of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it upon a staff between two; they brought also of the pomegranates, and of the figs.

24 A aquel lugar se le llamó el valle de Escol por razón del racimo que los hijos de Israel cortaron allí.

That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the children of Israel cut down from thence.

25 Y volvieron de reconocer la tierra al cabo de cuarenta días,

And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.

26 y fueron y se presentaron a Moisés y a Aarón, y a toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel en el desierto de Parán, en Cades; y les dieron un informe a ellos y a toda la congregación, y les enseñaron el fruto de la tierra.

And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

27 Y le contaron a Moisés, y le dijeron: Fuimos a la tierra adonde nos enviaste; ciertamente mana leche y miel, y este es el fruto de ella.

And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us; and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

28 S ólo que es fuerte el pueblo que habita en la tierra, y las ciudades, fortificadas y muy grandes; y además vimos allí a los descendientes de Anac.

Howbeit the people that dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.

29 A malec habita en la tierra del Neguev, y los hititas, los jebuseos y los amorreos habitan en la región montañosa, y los cananeos habitan junto al mar y a la ribera del Jordán.

Amalek dwelleth in the land of the South: and the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, dwell in the hill-country; and the Canaanite dwelleth by the sea, and along by the side of the Jordan.

30 E ntonces Caleb calmó al pueblo delante de Moisés, y dijo: Debemos ciertamente subir y tomar posesión de ella, porque sin duda la conquistaremos.

And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

31 P ero los hombres que habían subido con él dijeron: No podemos subir contra ese pueblo, porque es más fuerte que nosotros.

But the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.

32 Y dieron un mal informe a los hijos de Israel de la tierra que habían reconocido, diciendo: La tierra por la que hemos ido para reconocerla es una tierra que devora a sus habitantes, y toda la gente que vimos en ella son hombres de gran estatura.

And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.

33 V imos allí también a los gigantes (los hijos de Anac son parte de la raza de los gigantes ); y a nosotros nos pareció que éramos como langostas; y así parecíamos ante sus ojos.

And there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come of the Nephilim: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
