1 P rofecía sobre Damasco. He aquí, Damasco dejará de ser ciudad, y vendrá a ser un montón de ruinas.

The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

2 A bandonadas están las ciudades de Aroer; serán para los rebaños, para que se echen en ellas, y no habrá quien los espante.

The cities of Aroer are forsaken; they shall be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

3 D esaparecerá la fortaleza de Efraín y la soberanía de Damasco, y el resto de Aram vendrá a ser como la gloria de los hijos de Israel —declara el Señor de los ejércitos. Juicio sobre Israel

And the fortress shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria; they shall be as the glory of the children of Israel, saith Jehovah of hosts.

4 A contecerá en aquel día que la gloria de Jacob menguará, y enflaquecerá la gordura de su carne.

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the glory of Jacob shall be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh shall wax lean.

5 S erá como cuando el segador recoge la mies, y su brazo cosecha las espigas; o será como el que recoge espigas en el valle de Refaim.

And it shall be as when the harvestman gathereth the standing grain, and his arm reapeth the ears; yea, it shall be as when one gleaneth ears in the valley of Rephaim.

6 P ero quedarán en él rebuscos como cuando se varea el olivo: dos o tres aceitunas en la rama más alta, cuatro o cinco en las ramas de un árbol fructífero —declara el Señor, Dios de Israel.

Yet there shall be left therein gleanings, as the shaking of an olive-tree, two or three berries in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outmost branches of a fruitful tree, saith Jehovah, the God of Israel.

7 A quel día el hombre tendrá en estima a su Hacedor, y sus ojos mirarán al Santo de Israel.

In that day shall men look unto their Maker, and their eyes shall have respect to the Holy One of Israel.

8 Y no tendrá en estima los altares, obra de sus manos, ni mirará a lo que sus dedos hicieron: las Aseras y los altares de incienso.

And they shall not look to the altars, the work of their hands; neither shall they have respect to that which their fingers have made, either the Asherim, or the sun-images.

9 A quel día sus ciudades fuertes serán como lugares abandonados en el bosque, o como ramas que fueron abandonadas delante de los hijos de Israel; la tierra será una desolación.

In that day shall their strong cities be as the forsaken places in the wood and on the mountain top, which were forsaken from before the children of Israel; and it shall be a desolation.

10 P orque te olvidaste del Dios de tu salvación y no te acordaste de la roca de tu refugio. Por tanto, siembras plantas deleitosas y les injertas sarmientos de un dios extraño.

For thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and hast not been mindful of the rock of thy strength; therefore thou plantest pleasant plants, and settest it with strange slips.

11 E l día que las plantes las cercarás con cuidado, y por la mañana harás que florezca tu semilla; pero la cosecha será un montón inservible en el día de enfermedad y de dolor incurable.

In the day of thy planting thou hedgest it in, and in the morning thou makest thy seed to blossom; but the harvest fleeth away in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.

12 ¡ Ay!, bramar de muchos pueblos que braman como el bramido de los mares; rugir de naciones que rugen como el rugido de violentas aguas.

Ah, the uproar of many peoples, that roar like the roaring of the seas; and the rushing of nations, that rush like the rushing of mighty waters!

13 L as naciones rugen como el rugido de muchas aguas, pero El las reprenderá y huirán lejos; serán perseguidas como el tamo de los montes delante del viento, y como polvo de torbellino delante del vendaval.

The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but he shall rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm.

14 A l tiempo de la tarde, he aquí, hay terror. Antes de la mañana ya no existen. Tal será la porción de los que nos despojan, y la suerte de los que nos saquean.

At eventide, behold, terror; and before the morning they are not. This is the portion of them that despoil us, and the lot of them that rob us.
