1 C uando David era ya viejo y colmado de días, puso a su hijo Salomón como rey sobre Israel.

Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

2 Y reunió a todos los principales de Israel con los sacerdotes y los levitas.

He gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

3 L os levitas fueron contados de treinta años para arriba, y su número, según el censo de los hombres, fue de treinta y ocho mil.

The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.

4 D e éstos, veinticuatro mil debían dirigir la obra de la casa del Señor, seis mil eran oficiales y jueces,

David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of Yahweh’s house, six thousand were officers and judges,

5 c uatro mil eran porteros y cuatro mil alababan al Señor con los instrumentos que David había hecho para rendir alabanza.

four thousand were doorkeepers, and four thousand praised Yahweh with the instruments which I made for giving praise.”

6 Y David los dividió en clases conforme a los hijos de Leví: Gersón, Coat y Merari.

David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

7 D e los de Gersón fueron Laadán y Simei.

Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

8 L os hijos de Laadán fueron Jehiel el primero, Zetam y Joel: tres.

The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, Zetham, and Joel, three.

9 L os hijos de Simei fueron Selomit, Haziel y Harán: tres. Estos fueron los jefes de las casas paternas de Laadán.

The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan.

10 Y los hijos de Simei fueron Jahat, Zina, Jeús y Bería. Estos cuatro fueron los hijos de Simei.

The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

11 J ahat fue el primero y Zina el segundo; pero Jeús y Bería no tuvieron muchos hijos, por lo cual constituyeron una casa paterna, un grupo.

Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second; but Jeush and Beriah didn’t have many sons; therefore they became a fathers’ house in one reckoning.

12 L os hijos de Coat fueron cuatro: Amram, Izhar, Hebrón y Uziel.

The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

13 L os hijos de Amram fueron Aarón y Moisés. Y Aarón fue separado para ser santificado como el más santo, él y sus hijos para siempre, para quemar incienso delante del Señor, para servirle y para bendecir en su nombre para siempre.

The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before Yahweh, to minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever.

14 M as en cuanto a Moisés el hombre de Dios, sus hijos fueron contados entre la tribu de Leví.

But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.

15 L os hijos de Moisés fueron Gersón y Eliezer.

The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.

16 E l hijo de Gersón fue Sebuel el jefe.

The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.

17 Y el hijo de Eliezer fue Rehabías el jefe; y Eliezer no tuvo más hijos, pero los hijos de Rehabías fueron muchos.

The sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

18 E l hijo de Izhar fue Selomit el jefe.

The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.

19 L os hijos de Hebrón fueron Jerías el primero, Amarías el segundo, Jahaziel el tercero, y Jecamán el cuarto.

The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

20 L os hijos de Uziel fueron Micaía el primero, e Isías el segundo.

The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

21 L os hijos de Merari fueron Mahli y Musi. Los hijos de Mahli fueron Eleazar y Cis.

The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.

22 Y Eleazar murió y no tuvo hijos, sino sólo hijas, de modo que sus parientes, los hijos de Cis, las tomaron por mujeres.

Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brothers the sons of Kish took them as wives.

23 L os hijos de Musi fueron tres: Mahli, Eder y Jeremot.

The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

24 E stos fueron los hijos de Leví conforme a sus casas paternas, es decir, los jefes de las casas paternas de los que fueron contados, en la cuenta de nombres según su censo, de veinte años para arriba, los cuales hacían la obra del servicio de la casa del Señor.

These were the sons of Levi after their fathers’ houses, even the heads of the fathers’ houses of those who were counted individually, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of Yahweh’s house, from twenty years old and upward.

25 P orque dijo David: El Señor, Dios de Israel, ha dado reposo a su pueblo, y El habita en Jerusalén para siempre.

For David said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem forever.

26 Y además los levitas ya no tendrán que llevar el tabernáculo y todos los utensilios para su servicio.

Also the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its vessels for its service.”

27 P ues de acuerdo con las últimas palabras de David, los hijos de Leví fueron contados de veinte años para arriba;

For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward.

28 p orque su oficio era ayudar a los hijos de Aarón en el servicio de la casa del Señor, en los atrios y en las cámaras y en la purificación de todas las cosas sagradas y en la obra del servicio de la casa de Dios;

For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of Yahweh’s house, in the courts, and in the rooms, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of God’s house;

29 y también con los panes de la proposición, la flor de harina para la ofrenda de cereal, los hojaldres sin levadura, lo preparado en sartén, lo bien mezclado y todas las medidas de capacidad y longitud.

for the show bread also, and for the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all measurements of quantity and size;

30 Y han de estar presentes cada mañana para dar gracias y para alabar al Señor, y asimismo por la noche,

and to stand every morning to thank and praise Yahweh, and likewise in the evening;

31 y para ofrecer todos los holocaustos al Señor todos los días de reposo, las lunas nuevas y las fiestas señaladas según el número fijado por la ordenanza que las prescribe, continuamente delante del Señor.

and to offer all burnt offerings to Yahweh, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Yahweh;

32 A sí estarán encargados de la custodia de la tienda de reunión, de la custodia del lugar santo y de la custodia de los hijos de Aarón sus parientes, para el servicio de la casa del Señor.

and that they should keep the duty of the Tent of Meeting, the duty of the holy place, and the duty of the sons of Aaron their brothers, for the service of Yahweh’s house.
