1 P or aquel tiempo el rey Herodes echó mano a algunos que pertenecían a la iglesia para maltratarlos.

Now about that time, King Herod stretched out his hands to oppress some of the assembly.

2 E hizo matar a espada a Jacobo, el hermano de Juan.

He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword.

3 Y viendo que esto agradaba a los judíos, hizo arrestar también a Pedro. Esto sucedió durante los días de los panes sin levadura.

When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This was during the days of unleavened bread.

4 Y habiéndolo tomado preso, lo puso en la cárcel, entregándolo a cuatro piquetes de soldados para que lo guardaran, con la intención de llevarlo ante el pueblo después de la Pascua.

When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover.

5 A sí pues, Pedro era custodiado en la cárcel, pero la iglesia hacía oración ferviente a Dios por él.

Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for him.

6 Y esa noche, cuando Herodes estaba a punto de sacarlo, Pedro estaba durmiendo entre dos soldados, sujeto con dos cadenas; y unos guardias delante de la puerta custodiaban la cárcel.

The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison.

7 Y he aquí, se le apareció un ángel del Señor, y una luz brilló en la celda; y el ángel tocó a Pedro en el costado, y lo despertó diciendo: Levántate pronto. Y las cadenas cayeron de sus manos.

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, “Stand up quickly!” His chains fell off from his hands.

8 Y el ángel le dijo: Vístete y ponte las sandalias. Y así lo hizo. Y le dijo el ángel: Envuélvete en tu manto y sígueme.

The angel said to him, “Get dressed and put on your sandals.” He did so. He said to him, “Put on your cloak, and follow me.”

9 Y saliendo, lo seguía, y no sabía que lo que hacía el ángel era de verdad, sino que creía ver una visión.

And he went out and followed him. He didn’t know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision.

10 C uando habían pasado la primera y la segunda guardia, llegaron a la puerta de hierro que conduce a la ciudad, la cual se les abrió por sí misma; y salieron y siguieron por una calle, y enseguida el ángel se apartó de él.

When they were past the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went out, and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.

11 C uando Pedro volvió en sí, dijo: Ahora sé en verdad que el Señor ha enviado a su ángel, y me ha rescatado de la mano de Herodes y de todo lo que esperaba el pueblo de los judíos.

When Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting.”

12 A l darse cuenta de esto, fue a la casa de María, la madre de Juan, llamado también Marcos, donde muchos estaban reunidos y oraban.

Thinking about that, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was called Mark, where many were gathered together and were praying.

13 Y cuando llamó a la puerta de la entrada, una sirvienta llamada Rode salió a ver quién era.

When Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a maid named Rhoda came to answer.

14 A l reconocer la voz de Pedro, de alegría no abrió la puerta, sino que corrió adentro y anunció que Pedro estaba a la puerta.

When she recognized Peter’s voice, she didn’t open the gate for joy, but ran in, and reported that Peter was standing in front of the gate.

15 Y ellos le dijeron: ¡Estás loca! Pero ella insistía en que así era. Y ellos decían: Es su ángel.

They said to her, “You are crazy!” But she insisted that it was so. They said, “It is his angel.”

16 M as Pedro continuaba llamando; y cuando ellos abrieron, lo vieron y se asombraron.

But Peter continued knocking. When they had opened, they saw him, and were amazed.

17 Y haciéndoles señal con la mano para que guardaran silencio, les contó cómo el Señor lo había sacado de la cárcel. Y les dijo: Informad de estas cosas a Jacobo y a los hermanos. Entonces salió, y se fue a otro lugar.

But he, beckoning to them with his hand to be silent, declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. He said, “Tell these things to James, and to the brothers.” Then he departed, and went to another place.

18 C uando se hizo de día, hubo un alboroto no pequeño entre los soldados sobre qué habría sido de Pedro.

Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter.

19 Y Herodes, después de buscarlo y no encontrar lo, interrogó a los guardias y ordenó que los llevaran para ejecutarlos. Después descendió de Judea a Cesarea, y se quedó allí por un tiempo. Muerte de Herodes

When Herod had sought for him, and didn’t find him, he examined the guards, and commanded that they should be put to death. He went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there.

20 H erodes estaba muy enojado con los de Tiro y de Sidón; pero ellos, de común acuerdo se presentaron ante él, y habiéndose ganado a Blasto, camarero del rey, pedían paz pues su territorio era abastecido por el del rey.

Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. They came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus, the king’s personal aide, their friend, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king’s country for food.

21 E l día señalado, Herodes, vestido con ropa real, se sentó en la tribuna y les arengaba.

On an appointed day, Herod dressed himself in royal clothing, sat on the throne, and gave a speech to them.

22 Y la gente gritaba: ¡Voz de un dios y no de un hombre es ésta!

The people shouted, “The voice of a god, and not of a man!”

23 A l instante un ángel del Señor lo hirió, por no haber dado la gloria a Dios; y murió comido de gusanos.

Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he didn’t give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.

24 P ero la palabra del Señor crecía y se multiplicaba.

But the word of God grew and multiplied.

25 Y Bernabé y Saulo regresaron de Jerusalén después de haber cumplido su misión, llevando consigo a Juan, llamado también Marcos.

Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their service, also taking with them John who was called Mark.
