1 E ntonces toda la asamblea de ellos se levantó, y llevaron a Jesús ante Pilato.

The whole company of them rose up and brought him before Pilate.

2 Y comenzaron a acusarle, diciendo: Hemos hallado que éste pervierte a nuestra nación, prohibiendo pagar impuesto al César, y diciendo que El mismo es Cristo, un Rey.

They began to accuse him, saying, “We found this man perverting the nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is Christ, a king.”

3 P ilato entonces le preguntó, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos? Y Jesús respondiéndole, dijo: Tú lo dices.

Pilate asked him, “Are you the King of the Jews?” He answered him, “So you say.”

4 Y Pilato dijo a los principales sacerdotes y a la multitud: No encuentro delito en este hombre.

Pilate said to the chief priests and the multitudes, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”

5 P ero ellos insistían, diciendo: El alborota al pueblo, enseñando por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea hasta aquí.

But they insisted, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee even to this place.”

6 C uando Pilato oyó esto, preguntó si el hombre era galileo.

But when Pilate heard Galilee mentioned, he asked if the man was a Galilean.

7 Y al saber que Jesús pertenecía a la jurisdicción de Herodes, le remitió a Herodes, que también estaba en Jerusalén en aquellos días. Jesús ante Herodes

When he found out that he was in Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem during those days.

8 H erodes, al ver a Jesús se alegró en gran manera, pues hacía mucho tiempo que quería verle por lo que había oído hablar de El, y esperaba ver alguna señal que El hiciera.

Now when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad, for he had wanted to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him. He hoped to see some miracle done by him.

9 Y le interrogó extensamente, pero Jesús nada le respondió.

He questioned him with many words, but he gave no answers.

10 L os principales sacerdotes y los escribas también estaban allí, acusándole con vehemencia.

The chief priests and the scribes stood, vehemently accusing him.

11 E ntonces Herodes, con sus soldados, después de tratarle con desprecio y burlarse de El, le vistió con un espléndido manto y le envió de nuevo a Pilato.

Herod with his soldiers humiliated him and mocked him. Dressing him in luxurious clothing, they sent him back to Pilate.

12 A quel mismo día Herodes y Pilato se hicieron amigos, pues antes habían estado enemistados el uno con el otro. Pilato condena a Jesús

Herod and Pilate became friends with each other that very day, for before that they were enemies with each other.

13 E ntonces Pilato convocó a los principales sacerdotes, a los gobernantes y al pueblo,

Pilate called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

14 y les dijo: Me habéis presentado a este hombre como uno que incita al pueblo a la rebelión, pero habiéndole interrogado yo delante de vosotros, no he hallado ningún delito en este hombre de las acusaciones que hacéis contra El.

and said to them, “You brought this man to me as one that perverts the people, and see, I have examined him before you, and found no basis for a charge against this man concerning those things of which you accuse him.

15 N i tampoco Herodes, pues nos lo ha remitido de nuevo; y he aquí que nada ha hecho que merezca la muerte.

Neither has Herod, for I sent you to him, and see, nothing worthy of death has been done by him.

16 P or consiguiente, después de castigarle, le soltaré.

I will therefore chastise him and release him.”

17 Y tenía obligación de soltarles un preso en cada fiesta.

Now he had to release one prisoner to them at the feast.

18 P ero todos ellos gritaron a una, diciendo: ¡ Fuera con éste, y suéltanos a Barrabás!

But they all cried out together, saying, “Away with this man! Release to us Barabbas!”—

19 ( Este había sido echado en la cárcel por un levantamiento ocurrido en la ciudad, y por homicidio.)

one who was thrown into prison for a certain revolt in the city, and for murder.

20 P ilato, queriendo soltar a Jesús, les volvió a hablar,

Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus,

21 p ero ellos continuaban gritando, diciendo: ¡Crucifíca le! ¡Crucifícale!

but they shouted, saying, “Crucify! Crucify him!”

22 Y él les dijo por tercera vez: ¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho éste? No he hallado en El ningún delito digno de muerte; por tanto, le castigaré y le soltaré.

He said to them the third time, “Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him.”

23 P ero ellos insistían, pidiendo a grandes voces que fuera crucificado. Y sus voces comenzaron a predominar.

But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. Their voices and the voices of the chief priests prevailed.

24 E ntonces Pilato decidió que se les concediera su demanda.

Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done.

25 Y soltó al que ellos pedían, al que había sido echado en la cárcel por sedición y homicidio, pero a Jesús lo entregó a la voluntad de ellos. Jesús se dirige al Calvario

He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.

26 C uando le llevaban, tomaron a un cierto Simón de Cirene que venía del campo y le pusieron la cruz encima para que la llevara detrás de Jesús.

When they led him away, they grabbed one Simon of Cyrene, coming from the country, and laid on him the cross, to carry it after Jesus.

27 Y le seguía una gran multitud del pueblo y de mujeres que lloraban y se lamentaban por El.

A great multitude of the people followed him, including women who also mourned and lamented him.

28 P ero Jesús, volviéndose a ellas, dijo: Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloréis por mí; llorad más bien por vosotras mismas y por vuestros hijos.

But Jesus, turning to them, said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.

29 P orque he aquí, vienen días en que dirán: “Dichosas las estériles, y los vientres que nunca concibieron, y los senos que nunca criaron.”

For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’

30 E ntonces comenzarán a decir a los montes: “Caed sobre nosotros ”; y a los collados: “Cubridnos.”

Then they will begin to tell the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and tell the hills, ‘Cover us.’

31 P orque si en el árbol verde hacen esto, ¿qué sucederá en el seco?

For if they do these things in the green tree, what will be done in the dry?”

32 Y llevaban también a otros dos, que eran malhechores, para ser muertos con El. La crucifixión

There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death.

33 C uando llegaron al lugar llamado “La Calavera ”, crucificaron allí a Jesús y a los malhechores, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda.

When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.

34 Y Jesús decía: Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen. Y echaron suertes, repartiéndose entre sí sus vestidos.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.

35 Y el pueblo estaba allí mirando; y aun los gobernantes se mofaban de El, diciendo: A otros salvó; que se salve a sí mismo si este es el Cristo de Dios, su Escogido.

The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!”

36 L os soldados también se burlaban de El, acercándose y ofreciéndole vinagre,

The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar,

37 y diciendo: Si tú eres el Rey de los judíos, sálvate a ti mismo.

and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”

38 H abía también una inscripción sobre El, que decía: ESTE ES EL REY DE LOS JUDIOS. Los dos malhechores

An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”

39 Y uno de los malhechores que estaban colgados allí le lanzaba insultos, diciendo: ¿No eres tú el Cristo ? ¡Sálvate a ti mismo y a nosotros!

One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!”

40 P ero el otro le contestó, y reprendiéndole, dijo: ¿Ni siquiera temes tú a Dios a pesar de que estás bajo la misma condena?

But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation?

41 Y nosotros a la verdad, justamente, porque recibimos lo que merecemos por nuestros hechos; pero éste nada malo ha hecho.

And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.”

42 Y decía: Jesús, acuérdate de mí cuando vengas en tu reino.

He said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.”

43 E ntonces El le dijo: En verdad te digo: hoy estarás conmigo en el paraíso. Muerte de Jesús

Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”

44 E ra ya como la hora sexta, cuando descendieron tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena

It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour.

45 a l eclipsarse el sol. El velo del templo se rasgó en dos.

The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two.

46 Y Jesús, clamando a gran voz, dijo: Padre, en tus manos encomiendo mi espiritu. Y habiendo dicho esto, expiró.

Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” Having said this, he breathed his last.

47 C uando el centurión vio lo que había sucedido, glorificaba a Dios, diciendo: Ciertamente, este hombre era inocente.

When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous man.”

48 Y cuando todas las multitudes que se habían reunido para presenciar este espectáculo, al observar lo que había acontecido, se volvieron golpeándose el pecho.

All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their breasts.

49 P ero todos sus conocidos y las mujeres que le habían acompañado desde Galilea, estaban a cierta distancia viendo estas cosas. Sepultura de Jesús

All his acquaintances, and the women who followed with him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

50 Y había un hombre llamado José, miembro del concilio, varón bueno y justo

Behold, a man named Joseph, who was a member of the council, a good and righteous man

51 ( el cual no había asentido al plan y al proceder de los demás ) que era de Arimatea, ciudad de los judíos, y que esperaba el reino de Dios.

(he had not consented to their counsel and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was also waiting for God’s Kingdom:

52 E ste fue a Pilato y le pidió el cuerpo de Jesús,

this man went to Pilate, and asked for Jesus’ body.

53 y bajándo le, le envolvió en un lienzo de lino, y le puso en un sepulcro excavado en la roca donde nadie había sido puesto todavía.

He took it down, and wrapped it in a linen cloth, and laid him in a tomb that was cut in stone, where no one had ever been laid.

54 E ra el día de la preparación, y estaba para comenzar el día de reposo.

It was the day of the Preparation, and the Sabbath was drawing near.

55 Y las mujeres que habían venido con El desde Galilea siguieron detrás, y vieron el sepulcro y cómo fue colocado el cuerpo.

The women, who had come with him out of Galilee, followed after, and saw the tomb, and how his body was laid.

56 Y cuando regresaron, prepararon especias aromáticas y perfumes. Y en el día de reposo descansaron según el mandamiento.

They returned, and prepared spices and ointments. On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.
