1 E ntonces comenzó a hablarles en parábolas: Un hombre planto una viña y la cerco con un muro, cavo un estanque debajo del lagar y edifico una torre; la arrendó a labradores y se fue de viaje.

He began to speak to them in parables. “A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a pit for the wine press, built a tower, rented it out to a farmer, and went into another country.

2 A l tiempo de la vendimia envió un siervo a los labradores para recibir de los labradores su parte de los frutos de la viña.

When it was time, he sent a servant to the farmer to get from the farmer his share of the fruit of the vineyard.

3 P ero ellos, echándole mano, lo golpearon y lo enviaron con las manos vacías.

They took him, beat him, and sent him away empty.

4 D e nuevo les mandó otro siervo, y a él lo hirieron en la cabeza y lo trataron vergonzosamente.

Again, he sent another servant to them; and they threw stones at him, wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully treated.

5 Y envió a otro y a éste lo mataron; y así con otros muchos, golpeando a unos y matando a otros.

Again he sent another; and they killed him; and many others, beating some, and killing some.

6 T odavía le quedaba uno, un hijo amado; y les envió a este último, diciendo: “Respetarán a mi hijo.”

Therefore still having one, his beloved son, he sent him last to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’

7 P ero aquellos labradores se dijeron entre sí: “Este es el heredero; ¡venid, matémosle, y la heredad será nuestra!”

But those farmers said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’

8 Y echándole mano, lo mataron y lo arrojaron fuera de la viña.

They took him, killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

9 ¿ Qué hará, entonces, el dueño de la viña? Vendrá y destruirá a los labradores, y dará la viña a otros.

What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.

10 ¿ Ni aun esta Escritura habéis leído: “ La piedra que desecharon los constructores, esa, en piedra angular se ha convertido;

Haven’t you even read this Scripture: ‘The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made the head of the corner.

11 e sto fue hecho de parte del Señor, y es maravilloso a nuestros ojos ”?

This was from the Lord, it is marvelous in our eyes’?”

12 Y procuraban prenderle, pero temían a la multitud, porque comprendieron que contra ellos había dicho la parábola. Y dejándole, se fueron. El pago del impuesto al César

They tried to seize him, but they feared the multitude; for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him, and went away.

13 Y le enviaron algunos de los fariseos y de los herodianos para sorprenderle en alguna palabra.

They sent some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to him, that they might trap him with words.

14 Y cuando ellos llegaron, le dijeron: Maestro, sabemos que eres veraz y que no buscas el favor de nadie, porque eres imparcial, y enseñas el camino de Dios con verdad. ¿Es lícito pagar impuesto al César, o no?

When they had come, they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you are honest, and don’t defer to anyone; for you aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

15 ¿ Pagaremos o no pagaremos ? Pero El, dándose cuenta de su hipocresía, les dijo: ¿Por qué me estáis poniendo a prueba? Traedme un denario para verlo.

Shall we give, or shall we not give?” But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, “Why do you test me? Bring me a denarius, that I may see it.”

16 S e lo trajeron, y El les dijo: ¿De quién es esta imagen y la inscripción? Y ellos le dijeron: Del César.

They brought it. He said to them, “Whose is this image and inscription?” They said to him, “Caesar’s.”

17 E ntonces Jesús les dijo: Dad al César lo que es del César, y a Dios lo que es de Dios. Y se maravillaban de El. Pregunta sobre la resurrección

Jesus answered them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” They marveled greatly at him.

18 Y algunos saduceos (los que dicen que no hay resurrección) se le acercaron, y le preguntaban, diciendo:

There came to him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection. They asked him, saying,

19 M aestro, Moisés nos dejó escrito: Si el hermano de alguno muere y deja mujer y no deja hijo, que su hermano tome la mujer y levante descendencia a su hermano.

“Teacher, Moses wrote to us, ‘If a man’s brother dies, and leaves a wife behind him, and leaves no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.’

20 H ubo siete hermanos; y el primero tomó esposa, y murió sin dejar descendencia.

There were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and dying left no offspring.

21 Y el segundo la tomó, y murió sin dejar descendencia; y asimismo el tercero;

The second took her, and died, leaving no children behind him. The third likewise;

22 y así los siete, sin dejar descendencia. Y por último murió también la mujer.

and the seven took her and left no children. Last of all the woman also died.

23 E n la resurrección, cuando resuciten, ¿de cuál de ellos será mujer? Pues los siete la tuvieron por mujer.

In the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be of them? For the seven had her as a wife.”

24 J esús les dijo: ¿No es ésta la razón por la que estáis equivocados: que no entendéis las Escrituras ni el poder de Dios?

Jesus answered them, “Isn’t this because you are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God?

25 P orque cuando resuciten de entre los muertos, ni se casarán ni serán dados en matrimonio, sino que serán como los ángeles en los cielos.

For when they will rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

26 Y en cuanto a que los muertos resucitan, ¿no habéis leído en el libro de Moisés, en el pasaje sobre la zarza ardiendo, cómo Dios le habló, diciendo: “ Yo soy el Dios de Abraham, y el Dios de Isaac, y el Dios de Jacob ”?

But about the dead, that they are raised; haven’t you read in the book of Moses, about the Bush, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’ ?

27 E l no es Dios de muertos, sino de vivos; vosotros estáis muy equivocados. El mandamiento supremo

He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are therefore badly mistaken.”

28 C uando uno de los escribas se acercó, los oyó discutir, y reconociendo que les había contestado bien, le preguntó: ¿Cuál mandamiento es el más importante de todos?

One of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together. Knowing that he had answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the greatest of all?”

29 J esús respondió: El más importante es: “ Escucha, Israel; el Señor nuestro Dios, el Señor uno es;

Jesus answered, “The greatest is, ‘Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one:

30 y amaras al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazon, y con toda tu alma, y con toda tu mente, y con toda tu fuerza.”

you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.

31 E l segundo es éste: “ Amaras a tu projimo como a ti mismo.” No hay otro mandamiento mayor que éstos.

The second is like this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

32 Y el escriba le dijo: Muy bien, Maestro; con verdad has dicho que El es uno, y no hay otro ademas de El;

The scribe said to him, “Truly, teacher, you have said well that he is one, and there is none other but he,

33 y que amarle con todo el corazon y con todo el entendimiento y con todas las fuerzas, y amar al projimo como a uno mismo, es más que todos los holocaustos y los sacrificios.

and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

34 V iendo Jesús que él había respondido sabiamente, le dijo: No estás lejos del reino de Dios. Y después de eso, nadie se aventuraba a hacerle más preguntas. Jesús, Hijo y Señor de David

When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from God’s Kingdom.” No one dared ask him any question after that.

35 Y tomando la palabra, Jesús decía mientras enseñaba en el templo: ¿Por qué dicen los escribas que el Cristo es hijo de David ?

Jesus responded, as he taught in the temple, “How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?

36 D avid mismo dijo por el Espíritu Santo: “ El Señor dijo a mi Señor: ‘ sientate a mi diestra, hasta que ponga a tus enemigos debajo de tus pies.’”

For David himself said in the Holy Spirit, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’

37 D avid mismo le llama “Señor.” ¿En qué sentido es, pues, su hijo? Y la gran multitud le escuchaba con gusto. Advertencia contra los escribas

Therefore David himself calls him Lord, so how can he be his son?” The common people heard him gladly.

38 Y en su enseñanza les decía: Cuidaos de los escribas, a quienes les gusta andar con vestiduras largas, y aman los saludos respetuosos en las plazas,

In his teaching he said to them, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and to get greetings in the marketplaces,

39 l os primeros asientos en las sinagogas y los lugares de honor en los banquetes;

and the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts:

40 q ue devoran las casas de las viudas, y por las apariencias hacen largas oraciones; éstos recibirán mayor condenación. La ofrenda de la viuda

those who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”

41 J esús se sentó frente al arca del tesoro, y observaba cómo la multitud echaba dinero en el arca del tesoro; y muchos ricos echaban grandes cantidades.

Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, and saw how the multitude cast money into the treasury. Many who were rich cast in much.

42 Y llegó una viuda pobre y echó dos pequeñas monedas de cobre, o sea, un cuadrante.

A poor widow came, and she cast in two small brass coins, which equal a quadrans coin.

43 Y llamando a sus discípulos, les dijo: En verdad os digo, que esta viuda pobre echó más que todos los contribuyentes al tesoro;

He called his disciples to himself, and said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, this poor widow gave more than all those who are giving into the treasury,

44 p orque todos ellos echaron de lo que les sobra, pero ella, de su pobreza echó todo lo que poseía, todo lo que tenía para vivir.

for they all gave out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had to live on.”
