1 M y son, if thou wilt receive my words, And lay up my commandments with thee;

Hijo mío, si recibes mis palabras, y atesoras mis mandamientos dentro de ti,

2 S o as to incline thine ear unto wisdom, And apply thy heart to understanding;

da oído a la sabiduría, inclina tu corazón al entendimiento;

3 Y ea, if thou cry after discernment, And lift up thy voice for understanding;

porque si clamas a la inteligencia, y alzas tu voz al entendimiento,

4 I f thou seek her as silver, And search for her as for hid treasures:

si la buscas como a plata, y la procuras como a tesoros escondidos,

5 T hen shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, And find the knowledge of God.

entonces entenderás el temor del Señor, y descubrirás el conocimiento de Dios.

6 F or Jehovah giveth wisdom; Out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding:

Porque el Señor da sabiduría, de su boca vienen el conocimiento y la inteligencia.

7 H e layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to them that walk in integrity;

El reserva la prosperidad para los rectos, es escudo para los que andan en integridad,

8 T hat he may guard the paths of justice, And preserve the way of his saints.

guarda las sendas del juicio, y preserva el camino de sus santos.

9 T hen shalt thou understand righteousness and justice, And equity, yea, every good path.

Entonces discernirás justicia y juicio, equidad y todo buen sendero;

10 F or wisdom shall enter into thy heart, And knowledge shall be pleasant unto thy soul;

porque la sabiduría entrará en tu corazón, y el conocimiento será grato a tu alma;

11 D iscretion shall watch over thee; Understanding shall keep thee:

la discreción velará sobre ti, el entendimiento te protegerá,

12 T o deliver thee from the way of evil, From the men that speak perverse things;

para librarte de la senda del mal, del hombre que habla cosas perversas;

13 W ho forsake the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness;

de los que dejan las sendas de rectitud, para andar por los caminos tenebrosos;

14 W ho rejoice to do evil, And delight in the perverseness of evil;

de los que se deleitan en hacer el mal, y se regocijan en las perversidades del mal,

15 W ho are crooked in their ways, And wayward in their paths:

cuyas sendas son torcidas, y se extravían en sus senderos.

16 T o deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the foreigner that flattereth with her words;

Ella te librará de la mujer extraña, de la desconocida que lisonjea con sus palabras,

17 T hat forsaketh the friend of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God:

la cual deja al compañero de su juventud, y olvida el pacto de su Dios;

18 F or her house inclineth unto death, And her paths unto the dead;

porque su casa se inclina hacia la muerte, y sus senderos hacia los muertos;

19 N one that go unto her return again, Neither do they attain unto the paths of life:

todos los que a ella van, no vuelven, ni alcanzan las sendas de la vida.

20 T hat thou mayest walk in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the righteous.

Por tanto andarás en el camino de los buenos, y guardarás las sendas de los justos;

21 F or the upright shall dwell in the land, And the perfect shall remain in it.

porque los rectos morarán en la tierra, y los íntegros permanecerán en ella;

22 B ut the wicked shall be cut off from the land, And the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.

pero los impíos serán cortados de la tierra, y los pérfidos serán desarraigados de ella.
