1 S imon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and the Saviour Jesus Christ:

Simón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que han recibido una fe como la nuestra, mediante la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador, Jesucristo:

2 G race to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

Gracia y paz os sean multiplicadas en el conocimiento de Dios y de Jesús nuestro Señor. Virtudes del cristiano

3 s eeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue;

Pues su divino poder nos ha concedido todo cuanto concierne a la vida y a la piedad, mediante el verdadero conocimiento de aquel que nos llamó por su gloria y excelencia,

4 w hereby he hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in that world by lust.

por medio de las cuales nos ha concedido sus preciosas y maravillosas promesas, a fin de que por ellas lleguéis a ser partícipes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo escapado de la corrupción que hay en el mundo por causa de la concupiscencia.

5 Y ea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in your virtue knowledge;

Por esta razón también, obrando con toda diligencia, añadid a vuestra fe, virtud, y a la virtud, conocimiento;

6 a nd in your knowledge self-control; and in your self-control patience; and in your patience godliness;

al conocimiento, dominio propio, al dominio propio, perseverancia, y a la perseverancia, piedad,

7 a nd in your godliness brotherly kindness; and in your brotherly kindness love.

a la piedad, fraternidad y a la fraternidad, amor.

8 F or if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Pues estas virtudes, al estar en vosotros y al abundar, no os dejarán ociosos ni estériles en el verdadero conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

9 F or he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.

Porque el que carece de estas virtudes es ciego o corto de vista, habiendo olvidado la purificación de sus pecados pasados.

10 W herefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble:

Así que, hermanos, sed tanto más diligentes para hacer firme vuestro llamado y elección de parte de Dios; porque mientras hagáis estas cosas nunca tropezaréis;

11 f or thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

pues de esta manera os será concedida ampliamente la entrada al reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. Propósito de la carta

12 W herefore I shall be ready always to put you in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the truth which is with you.

Por tanto, siempre estaré listo para recordaros estas cosas, aunque vosotros ya las sabéis y habéis sido confirmados en la verdad que está presente en vosotros.

13 A nd I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

Y considero justo, mientras esté en este cuerpo, estimularos recordándoos estas cosas,

14 k nowing that the putting off of my tabernacle cometh swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ signified unto me.

sabiendo que mi separación del cuerpo terrenal es inminente, tal como me lo ha declarado nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

15 Y ea, I will give diligence that at every time ye may be able after my decease to call these things to remembrance.

También yo procuraré con diligencia, que en todo tiempo, después de mi partida, podáis recordar estas cosas. Testigos de la gloria de Cristo

16 F or we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Porque cuando os dimos a conocer el poder y la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, no seguimos fábulas ingeniosamente inventadas, sino que fuimos testigos oculares de su majestad.

17 F or he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there was borne such a voice to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased:

Pues cuando El recibió honor y gloria de Dios Padre, la majestuosa Gloria le hizo esta declaración: Este es mi Hijo amado en quien me he complacido;

18 a nd this voice we ourselves heard borne out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.

y nosotros mismos escuchamos esta declaración, hecha desde el cielo cuando estábamos con El en el monte santo. La palabra profética

19 A nd we have the word of prophecy made more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:

Y así tenemos la palabra profética más segura, a la cual hacéis bien en prestar atención como a una lámpara que brilla en el lugar oscuro, hasta que el día despunte y el lucero de la mañana aparezca en vuestros corazones.

20 k nowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation.

Pero ante todo sabed esto, que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es asunto de interpretación personal,

21 F or no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.

pues ninguna profecía fue dada jamás por un acto de voluntad humana, sino que hombres inspirados por el Espíritu Santo hablaron de parte de Dios.
