1 N ow these are the nations which Jehovah left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

Y estas son las naciones que el Señor dejó para probar con ellas a Israel, es decir, a los que no habían experimentado ninguna de las guerras de Canaán

2 o nly that the generations of the children of Israel might know, to teach them war, at the least such as beforetime knew nothing thereof:

( esto fue sólo para que las generaciones de los hijos de Israel conocieran la guerra, aquellos que antes no la habían experimentado ):

3 n amely, the five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt in mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon unto the entrance of Hamath.

los cinco príncipes de los filisteos, todos los cananeos, los sidonios y los heveos que habitaban en el monte Líbano, desde el monte de Baal-hermón hasta Lebo-hamat.

4 A nd they were left, to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah, which he commanded their fathers by Moses.

Y eran para probar a Israel, para ver si obedecían los mandamientos que el Señor había ordenado a sus padres por medio de Moisés.

5 A nd the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites:

Y los hijos de Israel habitaron entre los cananeos, los hititas, los amorreos, los ferezeos, los heveos y los jebuseos;

6 a nd they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.

tomaron para sí a sus hijas por mujeres, y dieron sus propias hijas a los hijos de ellos, y sirvieron a sus dioses. Otoniel libra a Israel de Cusán-risataim

7 A nd the children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and forgat Jehovah their God, and served the Baalim and the Asheroth.

Y los hijos de Israel hicieron lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, y olvidaron al Señor su Dios, y sirvieron a los baales y a las imágenes de Asera.

8 T herefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years.

Entonces se encendió la ira del Señor contra Israel, y los vendió en manos de Cusán-risataim, rey de Mesopotamia; y los hijos de Israel sirvieron a Cusán-risataim por ocho años.

9 A nd when the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah, Jehovah raised up a saviour to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.

Cuando los hijos de Israel clamaron al Señor, el Señor levantó un libertador a los hijos de Israel para que los librara, a Otoniel, hijo de Cenaz, hermano menor de Caleb.

10 A nd the Spirit of Jehovah came upon him, and he judged Israel; and he went out to war, and Jehovah delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand: and his hand prevailed against Cushan-rishathaim.

Y vino sobre él el Espíritu del Señor, y juzgó a Israel. Cuando salió a la guerra, el Señor entregó en su mano a Cusán-risataim, rey de Mesopotamia, y su poder prevaleció sobre Cusán-risataim.

11 A nd the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

Y la tierra tuvo descanso por cuarenta años. Y murió Otoniel, hijo de Quenaz. Aod libra a Israel de Moab

12 A nd the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah: and Jehovah strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah.

Volvieron los hijos de Israel a hacer lo malo ante los ojos del Señor. Entonces el Señor fortaleció a Eglón, rey de Moab, contra Israel, porque habían hecho lo malo ante los ojos del Señor.

13 A nd he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and smote Israel, and they possessed the city of palm-trees.

Y Eglón reunió consigo a los hijos de Amón y de Amalec; y fue y derrotó a Israel, y se apoderaron de la ciudad de las palmeras.

14 A nd the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

Y los hijos de Israel sirvieron a Eglón, rey de Moab, por dieciocho años.

15 B ut when the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah, Jehovah raised them up a saviour, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a man left-handed. And the children of Israel sent tribute by him unto Eglon the king of Moab.

Pero los hijos de Israel clamaron al Señor, y el Señor les levantó un libertador, a Aod, hijo de Gera, benjamita, el cual era zurdo. Y los hijos de Israel enviaron tributo con él a Eglón, rey de Moab.

16 A nd Ehud made him a sword which had two edges, a cubit in length; and he girded it under his raiment upon his right thigh.

Aod se hizo una espada de dos filos, de un codo de largo, y la ató a su muslo derecho debajo de la ropa.

17 A nd he offered the tribute unto Eglon king of Moab: now Eglon was a very fat man.

Y presentó el tributo a Eglón, rey de Moab; y Eglón era un hombre muy grueso.

18 A nd when he had made an end of offering the tribute, he sent away the people that bare the tribute.

Y aconteció que cuando terminó de presentar el tributo, despidió a la gente que había traído el tributo.

19 B ut he himself turned back from the quarries that were by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand unto thee, O king. And he said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.

Pero él se volvió desde los ídolos que estaban en Gilgal, y dijo: Tengo un mensaje secreto para ti, oh rey. Y éste dijo: Guarda silencio. Y todos los que le servían salieron.

20 A nd Ehud came unto him; and he was sitting by himself alone in the cool upper room. And Ehud said, I have a message from God unto thee. And he arose out of his seat.

Aod vino a él cuando estaba sentado solo en su sala de verano. Y Aod dijo: Tengo un mensaje de Dios para ti. Y él se levantó de su silla.

21 A nd Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his body:

Aod alargó la mano izquierda, tomó la espada de su muslo derecho, y se la hundió en el vientre.

22 a nd the haft also went in after the blade; and the fat closed upon the blade, for he drew not the sword out of his body; and it came out behind.

Y la empuñadura entró también tras la hoja, y la gordura se cerró sobre la hoja, pues no sacó la espada de su vientre; y se le salieron los excrementos.

23 T hen Ehud went forth into the porch, and shut the doors of the upper room upon him, and locked them.

Entonces salió Aod al corredor, cerró tras sí las puertas de la sala de la terraza y les pasó el cerrojo.

24 N ow when he was gone out, his servants came; and they saw, and, behold, the doors of the upper room were locked; and they said, Surely he is covering his feet in the upper chamber.

Después de haber salido, vinieron los siervos y miraron, y he aquí, las puertas de la sala de la terraza tenían pasado el cerrojo, y dijeron: Sin duda está haciendo su necesidad en la sala de verano.

25 A nd they tarried till they were ashamed; and, behold, he opened not the doors of the upper room: therefore they took the key, and opened them, and, behold, their lord was fallen down dead on the earth.

Y esperaron hasta sentir inquietud, pues he aquí que él no abría las puertas de la sala de la terraza. Entonces tomaron la llave y las abrieron, y he aquí, su señor caído en el suelo, muerto.

26 A nd Ehud escaped while they tarried, and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped unto Seirah.

Mas Aod había escapado mientras ellos esperaban; pasando por los ídolos, había escapado a Seirat.

27 A nd it came to pass, when he was come, that he blew a trumpet in the hill-country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel went down with him from the hill-country, and he before them.

Y cuando llegó, tocó la trompeta en la región montañosa de Efraín; y los hijos de Israel descendieron con él de la región montañosa, estando él al frente de ellos.

28 A nd he said unto them, Follow after me; for Jehovah hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and suffered not a man to pass over.

Y les dijo: Perseguid los, porque el Señor ha entregado en vuestras manos a vuestros enemigos, los moabitas. Y descendieron tras él y se apoderaron de los vados del Jordán frente a Moab, y no dejaron pasar a nadie.

29 A nd they smote of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, every lusty man, and every man of valor; and there escaped not a man.

En aquella ocasión mataron a unos diez mil moabitas, todos hombres robustos y valientes; ninguno escapó.

30 S o Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land had rest fourscore years.

Y fue subyugado Moab aquel día bajo la mano de Israel. Y la tierra tuvo descanso por ochenta años. Samgar libra a Israel de los filisteos

31 A nd after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who smote of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox-goad: and he also saved Israel.

Después de Aod vino Samgar, hijo de Anat, el cual hirió a seiscientos filisteos con una aguijada de bueyes; y él también salvó a Israel.
