1 N ow the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem; in the name of the God of Israel prophesied they unto them.

Cuando los profetas Hageo y Zacarías, hijo de Iddo, profetizaron a los judíos que estaban en Judá y en Jerusalén, en el nombre del Dios de Israel que estaba sobre ellos,

2 T hen rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and with them were the prophets of God, helping them.

Zorobabel, hijo de Salatiel, y Jesúa, hijo de Josadac, se levantaron entonces y comenzaron a reedificar la casa de Dios en Jerusalén; y los profetas de Dios estaban con ellos apoyándolos.

3 A t the same time came to them Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who gave you a decree to build this house, and to finish this wall?

En aquel tiempo Tatnai, gobernador de la provincia al otro lado del río, y Setar-boznai y sus compañeros vinieron a ellos y les hablaron así: ¿Quién os dio orden de reedificar este templo y de terminar este edificio ?

4 T hen we told them after this manner, what the names of the men were that were making this building.

También les dijeron así: ¿Cuáles son los nombres de los hombres que están reedificando este edificio?

5 B ut the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, and they did not make them cease, till the matter should come to Darius, and then answer should be returned by letter concerning it.

Pero el ojo de su Dios velaba sobre los ancianos de los judíos, y no les detuvieron la obra hasta que un informe llegara a Darío, y volviera una respuesta escrita tocante al asunto.

6 T he copy of the letter that Tattenai, the governor beyond the River, and Shethar-bozenai, and his companions the Apharsachites, who were beyond the River, sent unto Darius the king;

Esta es la copia de la carta que Tatnai, gobernador de la provincia al otro lado del río, y Setar-boznai y sus compañeros los oficiales que estaban al otro lado del río, enviaron al rey Darío.

7 t hey sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus: Unto Darius the king, all peace.

Le enviaron un informe que estaba escrito así: Al rey Darío, toda paz.

8 B e it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judah, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls; and this work goeth on with diligence and prospereth in their hands.

Sepa el rey que hemos ido a la provincia de Judá, a la casa del gran Dios, que está siendo edificada con piedras enormes y vigas empotradas en las paredes; y esta obra se adelanta con gran esmero y prospera en sus manos.

9 T hen asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who gave you a decree to build this house, and to finish this wall?

Entonces preguntamos a aquellos ancianos, y les dijimos así: “¿Quién os dio orden de reedificar este templo y de terminar este edificio?”

10 W e asked them their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were at the head of them.

También les preguntamos sus nombres para informarte, y para dar por escrito los nombres de los hombres que eran sus jefes.

11 A nd thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and are building the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and finished.

Y así nos respondieron, diciendo: “Somos los siervos del Dios del cielo y de la tierra, y estamos reedificando el templo que fue construido hace muchos años, el cual un gran rey de Israel edificó y terminó.

12 B ut after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.

Pero como nuestros padres provocaron a ira al Dios del cielo, El los entregó en mano de Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, el caldeo, quien destruyó este templo, y deportó al pueblo a Babilonia.

13 B ut in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king made a decree to build this house of God.

Sin embargo, en el año primero de Ciro, rey de Babilonia, el rey Ciro proclamó un decreto de que se reedificara esta casa de Dios.

14 A nd the gold and silver vessels also of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;

También los utensilios de oro y de plata de la casa de Dios, que Nabucodonosor había sacado del templo que estaba en Jerusalén y llevado al templo de Babilonia, los sacó el rey Ciro del templo de Babilonia, y fueron entregados a Sesbasar, a quien había puesto por gobernador.

15 a nd he said unto him, Take these vessels, go, put them in the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in its place.

Y le dijo: “Toma estos utensilios, ve y colócalos en el templo que está en Jerusalén, y que sea la casa de Dios reedificada en su lugar.

16 T hen came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundations of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not completed.

Entonces aquel Sesbasar vino y puso los cimientos de la casa de Dios que está en Jerusalén; y desde entonces hasta ahora se sigue construyendo, pero aún no está terminada.”

17 N ow therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king's treasure-house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem; and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.

Y ahora, si al rey le parece bien, que se busque en la casa del tesoro del rey que está allí en Babilonia, a ver si es que fue proclamado un decreto de parte del rey Ciro para reedificar esta casa de Dios en Jerusalén; y que se nos envíe la decisión del rey en cuanto a este asunto.
