1 A nd the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who dwelt in the South, heard tell that Israel came by the way of Atharim; and he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.

Cuando el cananeo, el rey de Arad, que habitaba en el Neguev, oyó que Israel subía por el camino de Atarim, peleó contra Israel y le tomó algunos prisioneros.

2 A nd Israel vowed a vow unto Jehovah, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.

Entonces Israel hizo un voto al Señor y dijo: Si en verdad entregas a este pueblo en mis manos, yo destruiré por completo sus ciudades.

3 A nd Jehovah hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and the name of the place was called Hormah.

Y oyó el Señor la voz de Israel y les entregó a los cananeos; y los israelitas los destruyeron por completo, a ellos y a sus ciudades. Por eso se llamó a aquel lugar Horma. La serpiente de bronce

4 A nd they journeyed from mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

Partieron del monte de Hor, por el camino del mar Rojo, para rodear la tierra de Edom, y el pueblo se impacientó por causa del viaje.

5 A nd the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.

Y el pueblo habló contra Dios y Moisés: ¿Por qué nos habéis sacado de Egipto para morir en el desierto ? Pues no hay comida ni agua, y detestamos este alimento tan miserable.

6 A nd Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

Y el Señor envió serpientes abrasadoras entre el pueblo, y mordieron al pueblo, y mucha gente de Israel murió.

7 A nd the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, because we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee; pray unto Jehovah, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.

Entonces el pueblo vino a Moisés y dijo: Hemos pecado, porque hemos hablado contra el Señor y contra ti; intercede con el Señor para que quite las serpientes de entre nosotros. Y Moisés intercedió por el pueblo.

8 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a standard: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he seeth it, shall live.

Y el Señor dijo a Moisés: Hazte una serpiente abrasadora y ponla sobre un asta; y acontecerá que cuando todo el que sea mordido la mire, vivirá.

9 A nd Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it upon the standard: and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked unto the serpent of brass, he lived.

Y Moisés hizo una serpiente de bronce y la puso sobre el asta; y sucedía que cuando una serpiente mordía a alguno, y éste miraba a la serpiente de bronce, vivía.

10 A nd the children of Israel journeyed, and encamped in Oboth.

Después los hijos de Israel partieron y acamparon en Obot.

11 A nd they journeyed from Oboth, and encamped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.

Y partieron de Obot y acamparon en Ije-abarim, en el desierto que está frente a Moab, al oriente.

12 F rom thence they journeyed, and encamped in the valley of Zered.

De allí partieron y acamparon en el valle de Zered.

13 F rom thence they journeyed, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness, that cometh out of the border of the Amorites: for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.

De allí partieron y acamparon al otro lado del Arnón, que está en el desierto y que sale del territorio de los amorreos, pues el Arnón es la frontera de Moab, entre Moab y los amorreos.

14 W herefore it is said in the book of the Wars of Jehovah, Vaheb in Suphah, And the valleys of the Arnon,

Por tanto se dice en el Libro de las Guerras del Señor: Vaheb que está en Sufa y los arroyos del Arnón,

15 A nd the slope of the valleys That inclineth toward the dwelling of Ar, And leaneth upon the border of Moab.

y la ladera de los arroyos que llega hasta el sitio de Ar y se apoya en la frontera de Moab.

16 A nd from thence they journeyed to Beer: that is the well whereof Jehovah said unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.

Y de allí continuaron hasta Beer; este es el pozo donde el Señor le dijo a Moisés: Reúne al pueblo y les daré agua.

17 T hen sang Israel this song: Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:

Entonces cantó Israel este cántico: ¡Salta, oh pozo! A él cantad.

18 T he well, which the princes digged, Which the nobles of the people delved, With the sceptre, and with their staves. And from the wilderness they journeyed to Mattanah;

El pozo que cavaron los jefes, que los nobles del pueblo hicieron con el cetro y con sus báculos. Y desde el desierto fueron a Mataná.

19 a nd from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;

Y de Mataná a Nahaliel, y de Nahaliel a Bamot,

20 a nd from Bamoth to the valley that is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh down upon the desert.

y de Bamot al valle que está en la tierra de Moab, en la cumbre del Pisga, que da al desierto.

21 A nd Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

Entonces Israel envió mensajeros a Sehón, rey de los amorreos, diciendo:

22 L et me pass through thy land: we will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard; we will not drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's highway, until we have passed thy border.

Déjame pasar por tu tierra. No nos desviaremos, ni por campos ni por viñedos, ni beberemos agua de pozo. Iremos por el camino real hasta que hayamos cruzado tus fronteras.

23 A nd Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz; and he fought against Israel.

Pero Sehón no permitió a Israel pasar por su territorio. Y reunió Sehón a todo su pueblo y salió al encuentro de Israel en el desierto, y llegó a Jahaza y peleó contra Israel.

24 A nd Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon unto the Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.

Pero Israel lo hirió a filo de espada y tomó posesión de su tierra desde el Arnón hasta el Jaboc, hasta la frontera con los hijos de Amón, porque Jazer era la frontera de los hijos de Amón.

25 A nd Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the towns thereof.

Israel tomó todas estas ciudades, y habitó Israel en todas las ciudades de los amorreos, en Hesbón y en todas sus aldeas.

26 F or Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto the Arnon.

Porque Hesbón era la ciudad de Sehón, rey de los amorreos, quien había peleado contra el rey anterior de Moab y le había quitado de su mano toda su tierra, hasta el Arnón.

27 W herefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come ye to Heshbon; Let the city of Sihon be built and established:

Por eso dicen los que usan proverbios: Venid a Hesbón. Sea edificada. Sea establecida la ciudad de Sehón.

28 F or a fire is gone out of Heshbon, A flame from the city of Sihon: It hath devoured Ar of Moab, The lords of the high places of the Arnon.

Porque fuego salió de Hesbón, una llama del pueblo de Sehón; devoró a Ar de Moab, a los señores de las alturas del Arnón.

29 W oe to thee, Moab! Thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: He hath given his sons as fugitives, And his daughters into captivity, Unto Sihon king of the Amorites.

¡Ay de ti, Moab! ¡Destruido eres, oh pueblo de Quemos! Ha dado a sus hijos como fugitivos y a sus hijas a la cautividad, a un rey amorreo, Sehón.

30 W e have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, And we have laid waste even unto Nophah, Which reacheth unto Medeba.

Mas nosotros los hemos arrojado; Hesbón está destruido hasta Dibón; después también asolamos hasta Nofa, la que llega hasta Medeba.

31 T hus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.

Así habitó Israel en la tierra de los amorreos.

32 A nd Moses sent to spy out Jazer; and they took the towns thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.

Y Moisés envió a reconocer a Jazer, y tomaron sus villas y expulsaron a los amorreos que vivían allí.

33 A nd they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.

Después se volvieron y subieron por el camino de Basán; y Og, rey de Basán, salió con todo su pueblo para presentarles batalla en Edrei.

34 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.

Pero el Señor dijo a Moisés: No le tengas miedo porque lo he entregado en tu mano, y a todo su pueblo y a su tierra; y harás con él como hiciste con Sehón, rey de los amorreos, el que habitaba en Hesbón.

35 S o they smote him, and his sons and all his people, until there was none left him remaining: and they possessed his land.

Así que lo mataron a él, a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo, hasta que no le quedó remanente; y tomaron posesión de su tierra.
