1 A nd Jehovah spake unto Moses, Depart, go up hence, thou and the people that thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land of which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:

Entonces el Señor dijo a Moisés: Anda, sube de aquí, tú y el pueblo que has sacado de la tierra de Egipto, a la tierra de la cual juré a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, diciendo: “A tu descendencia la daré.”

2 a nd I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

Y enviaré un ángel delante de ti, y echaré fuera al cananeo, al amorreo, al hitita, al ferezeo, al heveo y al jebuseo.

3 u nto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee, for thou art a stiffnecked people, lest I consume thee in the way.

Sube a una tierra que mana leche y miel; pues yo no subiré en medio de ti, oh Israel, no sea que te destruya en el camino, porque eres un pueblo de dura cerviz.

4 A nd when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.

Cuando el pueblo oyó esta mala noticia, hicieron duelo, y ninguno de ellos se puso sus atavíos.

5 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people; if I go up into the midst of thee for one moment, I shall consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.

Porque el Señor había dicho a Moisés: Di a los hijos de Israel: “Sois un pueblo de dura cerviz; si por un momento yo me presentara en medio de ti, te destruiría. Ahora pues, quítate tus atavíos, para que yo sepa qué he de hacer contigo.”

6 A nd the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments from mount Horeb onward.

Y a partir del monte Horeb los hijos de Israel se despojaron de sus atavíos.

7 N ow Moses used to take the tent and to pitch it without the camp, afar off from the camp; and he called it, The tent of meeting. And it came to pass, that every one that sought Jehovah went out unto the tent of meeting, which was without the camp.

Y acostumbraba Moisés tomar la tienda, y la levantaba fuera del campamento a buena distancia de él, y la llamó la tienda de reunión. Y sucedía que todo el que buscaba al Señor salía a la tienda de reunión, que estaba fuera del campamento.

8 A nd it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the Tent, that all the people rose up, and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the Tent.

Y sucedía que cuando Moisés salía a la tienda, todo el pueblo se levantaba y permanecía de pie, cada uno a la entrada de su tienda, y seguía con la vista a Moisés hasta que él entraba en la tienda.

9 A nd it came to pass, when Moses entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, and stood at the door of the Tent: and Jehovah spake with Moses.

Y cuando Moisés entraba en la tienda, la columna de nube descendía y permanecía a la entrada de la tienda, y el Señor hablaba con Moisés.

10 A nd all the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man at his tent door.

Cuando todo el pueblo veía la columna de nube situada a la entrada de la tienda de reunión todos se levantaban y adoraban, cada cual a la entrada de su tienda.

11 A nd Jehovah spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his minister Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the Tent.

Y acostumbraba hablar el Señor con Moisés cara a cara, como habla un hombre con su amigo. Cuando Moisés regresaba al campamento, su joven ayudante Josué, hijo de Nun, no se apartaba de la tienda. Moisés responde al Señor

12 A nd Moses said unto Jehovah, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found favor in my sight.

Y Moisés dijo al Señor: Mira, tú me dices: “Haz subir a este pueblo ”; pero tú no me has declarado a quién enviarás conmigo. Además has dicho: “Te he conocido por tu nombre, y también has hallado gracia ante mis ojos.”

13 N ow therefore, I pray thee, if I have found favor in thy sight, show me now thy ways, that I may know thee, to the end that I may find favor in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

Ahora pues, si he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, te ruego que me hagas conocer tus caminos para que yo te conozca y halle gracia ante tus ojos. Considera también que esta nación es tu pueblo.

14 A nd he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

Y El respondió: Mi presencia irá contigo, y yo te daré descanso.

15 A nd he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.

Entonces le dijo Moisés: Si tu presencia no va con nosotros, no nos hagas partir de aquí.

16 F or wherein now shall it be known that I have found favor in thy sight, I and thy people? is it not in that thou goest with us, so that we are separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth?

¿Pues en qué se conocerá que he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, yo y tu pueblo? ¿No es acaso en que tú vayas con nosotros, para que nosotros, yo y tu pueblo, nos distingamos de todos los demás pueblos que están sobre la faz de la tierra ?

17 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken; for thou hast found favor in my sight, and I know thee by name.

Y el Señor dijo a Moisés: También haré esto que has hablado, por cuanto has hallado gracia ante mis ojos y te he conocido por tu nombre.

18 A nd he said, Show me, I pray thee, thy glory.

Entonces Moisés dijo: Te ruego que me muestres tu gloria.

19 A nd he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and will proclaim the name of Jehovah before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.

Y El respondió: Yo haré pasar toda mi bondad delante de ti, y proclamaré el nombre del Señor delante de ti; y tendré misericordia del que tendré misericordia, y tendré compasión de quien tendré compasión.

20 A nd he said, Thou canst not see my face; for man shall not see me and live.

Y añadió: No puedes ver mi rostro; porque nadie puede verme, y vivir.

21 a nd Jehovah said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock:

Entonces el Señor dijo: He aquí, hay un lugar junto a mí, y tú estarás sobre la peña;

22 a nd it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand until I have passed by:

y sucederá que al pasar mi gloria, te pondré en una hendidura de la peña y te cubriré con mi mano hasta que yo haya pasado.

23 a nd I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my back; but my face shall not be seen.

Después apartaré mi mano y verás mis espaldas; pero no se verá mi rostro.
