1 T he inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place; for the band of men who came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the oldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

Entonces los habitantes de Jerusalén hicieron rey en su lugar a Ocozías (Joacaz), hijo menor de Joram, porque la banda de hombres que vinieron con los Arabes al campamento había matado a todos los hijos mayores. Por lo cual Ocozías, hijo de Joram, rey de Judá, comenzó a reinar.

2 F orty-two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

Ocozías tenía veintidós años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó un año en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre era Atalía, nieta de Omri.

3 H e also walked in the ways of Ahab’s house; for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.

El también anduvo en los caminos de la casa de Acab, porque su madre fue su consejera para que hiciera lo malo.

4 H e did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, as did Ahab’s house; for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.

Hizo lo malo ante los ojos del Señor, como lo había hecho la casa de Acab, porque después de la muerte de su padre ellos fueron sus consejeros para perdición suya.

5 H e walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead: and the Syrians wounded Joram.

Ocozías también anduvo conforme al consejo de ellos, y fue con Joram, hijo de Acab, rey de Israel, a hacer guerra contra Hazael, rey de Aram, en Ramot de Galaad. Los Arameos hirieron a Joram,

6 H e returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which they had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

y éste volvió a Jezreel para ser curado de las heridas que le habían hecho en Ramot, cuando peleó contra Hazael, rey de Aram. Entonces Ocozías, hijo de Joram, rey de Judá, descendió a visitar a Joram, hijo de Acab, en Jezreel, que estaba enfermo.

7 N ow the destruction of Ahaziah was of God, in that he went to Joram: for when he had come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom Yahweh had anointed to cut off Ahab’s house.

La destrucción de Ocozías vino de Dios, por ir a visitar a Joram. Pues cuando llegó, salió con Joram contra Jehú, hijo de Nimsi, a quien el Señor había ungido para exterminar la casa de Acab.

8 W hen Jehu was executing judgment on Ahab’s house, he found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brothers of Ahaziah, serving Ahaziah, and killed them.

Cuando Jehú estaba ejecutando justicia contra la casa de Acab, encontró a los príncipes de Judá y a los hijos de los hermanos de Ocozías que estaban al servicio de Ocozías, y los mató.

9 H e sought Ahaziah, and they caught him (now he was hiding in Samaria), and they brought him to Jehu, and killed him; and they buried him, for they said, “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Yahweh with all his heart.” The house of Ahaziah had no power to hold the kingdom.

También buscó a Ocozías, que lo prendieron cuando estaba escondido en Samaria. Lo llevaron a Jehú y lo mataron, pero le dieron sepultura, pues decían: “Es hijo de Josafat, que buscó al Señor con todo su corazón.” Así que no quedó nadie de la casa de Ocozías para retener el poder del reino. 10 N ow when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal offspring of the house of Judah.

Cuando Atalía, madre de Ocozías, vio que su hijo había muerto, se levantó y exterminó toda la descendencia real de la casa de Judá.

11 B ut Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were slain, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah, so that she didn’t kill him.

Pero Josabet, hija del rey, tomó a Joás, hijo de Ocozías, y lo sacó a escondidas de entre los hijos del rey a quienes estaban dando muerte, y lo puso a él y a su nodriza en la alcoba. Así Josabet, hija del rey Joram, mujer del sacerdote Joiada (pues era hermana de Ocozías), lo escondió de Atalía para que no le diera muerte.

12 H e was with them hidden in God’s house six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.

Y Joás estuvo escondido con ellos en la casa de Dios seis años, mientras Atalía reinaba en el país.
