1 Y ahweh’s angel came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, “I brought you out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to give your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you.

El ángel del Señor subió de Gilgal a Boquim y dijo a los Israelitas: “Yo los saqué a ustedes de Egipto y los conduje a la tierra que había prometido a sus padres y les dije: ‘Jamás quebrantaré Mi pacto con ustedes,

2 Y ou shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You shall break down their altars.’ But you have not listened to my voice. Why have you done this?

y en cuanto a ustedes, no harán pacto con los habitantes de esta tierra; sus altares derribarán.’ Pero no Me han obedecido. ¿Qué es esto que han hecho?

3 T herefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’”

Por lo cual también dije: ‘No los echaré de delante de ustedes, sino que serán como espinas en su costado, y sus dioses les serán lazo para ustedes.’”

4 W hen Yahweh’s angel spoke these words to all the children of Israel, the people lifted up their voice, and wept.

Cuando el ángel del Señor habló estas palabras a todos los Israelitas, el pueblo alzó su voz y lloró.

5 T hey called the name of that place Bochim, and they sacrificed there to Yahweh.

Y llamaron a aquel lugar Boquim (Llorones). Y allí ofrecieron sacrificio al Señor. Muerte de Josué

6 N ow when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel each went to his inheritance to possess the land.

Después que Josué despidió al pueblo, los Israelitas fueron cada uno a su heredad para tomar posesión de la tierra.

7 T he people served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of Yahweh that he had worked for Israel.

El pueblo sirvió al Señor todos los días de Josué, y todos los días de los ancianos que sobrevivieron a Josué, los cuales habían sido testigos de la gran obra que el Señor había hecho por Israel.

8 J oshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, being one hundred ten years old.

Josué, hijo de Nun, siervo del Señor, murió a la edad de 110 años.

9 T hey buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath Heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.

Y lo sepultaron en el territorio de su heredad, en Timnat Sera, en la región montañosa de Efraín, al norte del Monte Gaas.

10 A fter all that generation were gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them, who didn’t know Yahweh, nor the work which he had done for Israel.

También toda aquella generación fue reunida a sus padres. Y se levantó otra generación después de ellos que no conocía al Señor, ni la obra que El había hecho por Israel. Apostasía de Israel

11 T he children of Israel did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and served the Baals.

Entonces los Israelitas hicieron lo malo ante los ojos del Señor y sirvieron (adoraron) a los Baales.

12 T hey abandoned Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; and they provoked Yahweh to anger.

Abandonaron al Señor, el Dios de sus padres, que los había sacado de la tierra de Egipto, y siguieron a otros dioses de entre los dioses de los pueblos que estaban a su derredor; se postraron ante ellos y provocaron a ira al Señor.

13 T hey abandoned Yahweh, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.

Dejaron al Señor y sirvieron a Baal y a Astarot.

14 Y ahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.

La ira del Señor se encendió contra Israel, y los entregó en manos de salteadores que los saquearon. También los vendió en mano de sus enemigos de alrededor, y ya no pudieron hacer frente a sus enemigos.

15 W herever they went out, Yahweh’s hand was against them for evil, as Yahweh had spoken, and as Yahweh had sworn to them; and they were very distressed.

Por dondequiera que iban, la mano del Señor estaba contra ellos para mal, tal como el Señor había dicho y como el Señor les había jurado, y se angustiaron en gran manera.

16 Y ahweh raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

Entonces el Señor levantó jueces que los libraron de la mano de los que los saqueaban.

17 Y et they didn’t listen to their judges; for they prostituted themselves to other gods, and bowed themselves down to them. They turned aside quickly out of the way in which their fathers walked, obeying Yahweh’s commandments. They didn’t do so.

Sin embargo no escucharon a sus jueces, porque se prostituyeron siguiendo a otros dioses, y se postraron ante ellos. Se apartaron pronto del camino en que sus padres habían andado en obediencia a los mandamientos del Señor. No hicieron como sus padres.

18 W hen Yahweh raised up judges for them, then Yahweh was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it grieved Yahweh because of their groaning by reason of those who oppressed them and troubled them.

Cuando el Señor les levantaba jueces, el Señor estaba con el juez y los libraba de mano de sus enemigos todos los días del juez. Porque el Señor se compadecía por sus gemidos a causa de los que los oprimían y afligían.

19 B ut when the judge was dead, they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down to them. They didn’t cease what they were doing, or give up their stubborn ways.

Pero cuando moría el juez, ellos volvían atrás y se corrompían aún más que sus padres, siguiendo a otros dioses, sirviéndoles (adorándolos) e inclinándose ante ellos. No dejaban sus costumbres ni su camino obstinado.

20 Y ahweh’s anger burned against Israel; and he said, “Because this nation transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to my voice,

Entonces se encendió la ira del Señor contra Israel, y dijo: “Por cuanto esta nación ha quebrantado Mi pacto que ordené a sus padres, y no ha escuchado Mi voz,

21 I also will no longer drive out any of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them;

tampoco Yo volveré a expulsar de delante de ellos a ninguna de las naciones que Josué dejó cuando murió,

22 t hat by them I may test Israel, to see if they will keep the Yahweh’s way to walk therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.”

para probar por medio de ellas a Israel, a ver si guardan o no el camino del Señor, y andan en él como lo hicieron sus padres.”

23 S o Yahweh left those nations, without driving them out hastily. He didn’t deliver them into Joshua’s hand.

Así pues, el Señor permitió que aquellas naciones se quedaran allí, sin expulsarlas enseguida, ni las entregó en manos de Josué.
