1 Y ahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

Entonces el Señor envió a Natán a David. Y Natán vino a él y le dijo: “Había dos hombres en una ciudad, el uno rico, y el otro pobre.

2 T he rich man had very many flocks and herds,

El rico tenía muchas ovejas y vacas.

3 b ut the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him, and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was like a daughter to him.

Pero el pobre no tenía más que una corderita Que él había comprado y criado, La cual había crecido junto con él y con sus hijos. Comía de su pan, bebía de su copa y dormía en su seno, Y era como una hija para él.

4 A traveler came to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to prepare for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb, and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”

Vino un viajero a visitar al hombre rico Y éste no quiso tomar de sus ovejas ni de sus vacas Para preparar comida para el caminante que había venido a él, Sino que tomó la corderita de aquel hombre pobre y la preparó para el hombre que había venido a visitarlo.”

5 D avid’s anger burned hot against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this deserves to die!

Y se encendió la ira de David en gran manera contra aquel hombre, y dijo a Natán: “Vive el Señor, que ciertamente el hombre que hizo esto merece morir;

6 H e must restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity!”

y debe pagar cuatro veces por la cordera, porque hizo esto y no tuvo compasión.”

7 N athan said to David, “You are the man. This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.

Entonces Natán dijo a David: “Tú eres aquel hombre. Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Yo te ungí rey sobre Israel y te libré de la mano de Saúl.

8 I gave you your master’s house, and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.

Yo también entregué a tu cuidado la casa de tu señor y las mujeres de tu señor, y te di la casa de Israel y de Judá; y si eso hubiera sido poco, te hubiera añadido muchas cosas como éstas.

9 W hy have you despised Yahweh’s word, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

¿Por qué has despreciado la palabra del Señor haciendo lo malo ante Sus ojos? Has matado a espada a Urías el Hitita, has tomado su mujer para que sea mujer tuya, y a él lo has matado con la espada de los Amonitas.

10 N ow therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’

Ahora pues, la espada nunca se apartará de tu casa, porque Me has despreciado y has tomado la mujer de Urías el Hitita para que sea tu mujer.’”

11 “ This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

“Así dice el Señor: ‘Por eso, de tu misma casa levantaré el mal contra ti; y aun tomaré tus mujeres delante de tus ojos y las daré a tu compañero, y éste se acostará con tus mujeres a plena luz del día.

12 F or you did this secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”

‘En verdad, tú lo hiciste en secreto, pero Yo haré esto delante de todo Israel y a plena luz del sol.’”

13 D avid said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.

Entonces David dijo a Natán: “He pecado contra el Señor.” Y Natán dijo a David: “El Señor ha quitado tu pecado; no morirás.

14 H owever, because by this deed you have given great occasion to Yahweh’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you will surely die.”

Sin embargo, por cuanto con este hecho has dado ocasión de blasfemar a los enemigos del Señor, ciertamente morirá el niño que te ha nacido.”

15 N athan departed to his house. Yahweh struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it was very sick.

Y Natán regresó a su casa. Entonces el Señor hirió al niño que la viuda de Urías dio a David, y se puso muy enfermo.

16 D avid therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night on the ground.

David rogó a Dios por el niño; y ayunó, y fue y pasó la noche acostado en el suelo.

17 T he elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, and he didn’t eat bread with them.

Los ancianos de su casa se pusieron a su lado para levantarlo del suelo, pero él no quiso, y no comió con ellos.

18 O n the seventh day, the child died. David’s servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he didn’t listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?”

Sucedió que al séptimo día el niño murió. Los siervos de David temían informarle que el niño había muerto, pues se decían: “Si cuando el niño todavía estaba vivo, le hablábamos y no nos escuchaba, ¿cómo, pues, vamos a decirle que el niño ha muerto? Puede hacer se daño.”

19 B ut when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”

Pero viendo David que sus siervos susurraban entre sí, comprendió que el niño había muerto, y dijo a sus siervos: “¿Ha muerto el niño?” “Ha muerto,” respondieron ellos.

20 T hen David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into Yahweh’s house, and worshiped. Then he came to his own house; and when he requested, they set bread before him, and he ate.

Entonces David se levantó del suelo, se lavó, se ungió y se cambió de ropa; entró en la casa del Señor y adoró. Después vino a su casa y cuando pidió, le pusieron comida delante y comió.

21 T hen his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”

Así que sus siervos le dijeron: “¿Qué es esto que ha hecho? Mientras el niño vivía, usted ayunaba y lloraba, pero cuando el niño murió, se levantó y comió pan.”

22 H e said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether Yahweh will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’

Y él respondió: “Mientras el niño aún vivía, yo ayunaba y lloraba, pues me decía: ‘¿Quién sabe si el Señor tendrá compasión de mí y el niño viva ?’

23 B ut now he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I will go to him, but he will not return to me.”

Pero ahora que ha muerto, ¿por qué he de ayunar? ¿Podré hacer que vuelva? Yo iré a él, pero él no volverá a mí.”

24 D avid comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Yahweh loved him;

Entonces David consoló a Betsabé su mujer, y vino a ella y se acostó con ella; y ella dio a luz un hijo; y él le puso por nombre Salomón. Y el Señor lo amó,

25 a nd he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah, for Yahweh’s sake.

y envió un mensaje por medio del profeta Natán, y le puso el nombre de Jedidías, por causa del Señor. David Conquista a Rabá

26 N ow Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.

Joab combatió contra Rabá, ciudad de los Amonitas, y conquistó la ciudad real.

27 J oab sent messengers to David, and said, “I have fought against Rabbah. Yes, I have taken the city of waters.

Entonces Joab envió mensajeros a David que le dijeran: “He combatido contra Rabá, y también he tomado la ciudad de las aguas.

28 N ow therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it; lest I take the city, and it be called by my name.”

Ahora pues, reúna el resto del pueblo y acampe contra la ciudad y tómela, no sea que tome yo la ciudad y sea llamada por mi nombre.”

29 D avid gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.

David reunió a todo el pueblo y fue a Rabá, y peleó contra ella y la tomó.

30 H e took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David’s head. He brought a great quantity of plunder out of the city.

Quitó la corona de la cabeza de su rey, la cual pesaba 34 kilos de oro y tenía una piedra preciosa, y fue puesta sobre la cabeza de David. Y él sacó botín de la ciudad en grandes cantidades.

31 H e brought out the people who were in it, and put them under saws, under iron picks, under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brick kiln; and he did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

Y la gente que había en ella, la sacó y la puso a trabajar con sierras, con trillos de hierro y con hachas de hierro; también la puso a trabajar en los hornos de ladrillos. Así hizo a todas las ciudades de los Amonitas. Entonces regresó David con todo el pueblo a Jerusalén.
