1 T he proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

2 T o know wisdom and instruction; To discern the words of understanding;

Para aprender sabiduría e instrucción, Para discernir dichos profundos,

3 T o receive instruction in wise dealing, In righteousness and justice and equity;

Para recibir instrucción en sabia conducta, Justicia, juicio y equidad;

4 T o give prudence to the simple, To the young man knowledge and discretion:

Para dar a los simples prudencia, Y a los jóvenes conocimiento y discreción.

5 T hat the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; And that the man of understanding may attain unto sound counsels:

El sabio oirá y crecerá en conocimiento, Y el inteligente adquirirá habilidad,

6 T o understand a proverb, and a figure, The words of the wise, and their dark sayings.

Para entender proverbio y metáfora, Las palabras de los sabios y sus enigmas.

7 T he fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge; But the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

El temor del (La reverencia al) Señor es el principio de la sabiduría; Los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la instrucción. Peligro de las Malas Compañías

8 M y son, hear the instruction of thy father, And forsake not the law of thy mother:

Oye, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre Y no abandones la enseñanza de tu madre;

9 F or they shall be a chaplet of grace unto thy head, And chains about thy neck.

Porque son guirnalda de gracia para tu cabeza, Y collares para tu cuello.

10 M y son, if sinners entice thee, Consent thou not.

Hijo mío, si los pecadores te quieren seducir, No consientas.

11 I f they say, Come with us, Let us lay wait for blood; Let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause;

Si dicen: “Ven con nosotros, Pongámonos al asecho para derramar sangre, Sin causa asechemos al inocente,

12 L et us swallow them up alive as Sheol, And whole, as those that go down into the pit;

Devorémoslos vivos como el Seol, Enteros, como los que descienden al abismo;

13 W e shall find all precious substance; We shall fill our houses with spoil;

Hallaremos toda clase de preciadas riquezas, Llenaremos nuestras casas de botín;

14 T hou shalt cast thy lot among us; We will all have one purse:

Echa tu suerte con nosotros, Todos tendremos una bolsa,”

15 M y son, walk not thou in the way with them; Refrain thy foot from their path:

Hijo mío, no andes en el camino con ellos. Aparta tu pie de su senda,

16 F or their feet run to evil, And they make haste to shed blood.

Porque sus pies corren hacia el mal, Y se apresuran a derramar sangre.

17 F or in vain is the net spread In the sight of any bird:

Porque es en vano tender la red Ante los ojos de cualquier ave;

18 A nd these lay wait for their own blood; They lurk privily for their own lives.

Pero ellos a su propia sangre asechan, Tienden lazo a sus propias vidas.

19 S o are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; It taketh away the life of the owners thereof.

Tales son los caminos de todo el que se beneficia por la violencia: Que quita la vida de sus poseedores. Habla la Sabiduría

20 W isdom crieth aloud in the street; She uttereth her voice in the broad places;

La sabiduría clama en la calle, En las plazas alza su voz;

21 S he crieth in the chief place of concourse; At the entrance of the gates, In the city, she uttereth her words:

Clama en las esquinas de las calles concurridas; A la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad pronuncia sus discursos:

22 H ow long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? And scoffers delight them in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?

“¿Hasta cuándo, oh simples, amarán la simpleza, Y los burladores se deleitarán en hacer burla, Y los necios aborrecerán el conocimiento ?

23 T urn you at my reproof: Behold, I will pour out my spirit upon you; I will make known my words unto you.

Vuélvanse a mi reprensión, Y derramaré mi espíritu sobre ustedes; Les haré conocer mis palabras.

24 B ecause I have called, and ye have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man hath regarded;

Porque he llamado y han rehusado oír, He extendido mi mano y nadie ha hecho caso.

25 B ut ye have set at nought all my counsel, And would none of my reproof:

Han desatendido todo consejo mío Y no han deseado mi reprensión.

26 I also will laugh in the day of your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

También yo me reiré de la calamidad de ustedes, Me burlaré cuando sobrevenga lo que temen,

27 W hen your fear cometh as a storm, And your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; When distress and anguish come upon you.

Cuando venga como tormenta lo que temen Y su calamidad sobrevenga como torbellino, Cuando vengan sobre ustedes tribulación y angustia.

28 T hen will they call upon me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:

Entonces me invocarán, pero no responderé; Me buscarán con diligencia, pero no me hallarán,

29 F or that they hated knowledge, And did not choose the fear of Jehovah:

Porque odiaron el conocimiento, Y no escogieron el temor del Señor,

30 T hey would none of my counsel; They despised all my reproof.

Ni quisieron aceptar mi consejo, Y despreciaron toda mi reprensión.

31 T herefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled with their own devices.

Comerán del fruto de su conducta, Y de sus propias artimañas se hartarán.

32 F or the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, And the careless ease of fools shall destroy them.

Porque el desvío de los simples los matará, Y la complacencia de los necios los destruirá.

33 B ut whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely, And shall be quiet without fear of evil.

Pero el que me escucha vivirá seguro, Y descansará, sin temor al mal.”
