1 A nd Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the room of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.

Hiram, rey de Tiro, envió sus siervos a Salomón, cuando oyó que lo habían ungido rey en lugar de su padre, pues Hiram siempre había sido amigo de David.

2 A nd Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

Entonces Salomón envió a decir a Hiram:

3 T hou knowest how that David my father could not build a house for the name of Jehovah his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until Jehovah put them under the soles of his feet.

“Tú sabes que mi padre David no pudo edificar una casa al nombre del Señor su Dios a causa de las guerras en que se vio envuelto, hasta que el Señor puso a sus enemigos bajo las plantas de sus pies.

4 B ut now Jehovah my God hath given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence.

Pero ahora el Señor mi Dios me ha dado paz por todas partes; no hay adversario ni calamidad.

5 A nd, behold, I purpose to build a house for the name of Jehovah my God, as Jehovah spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build the house for my name.

Por tanto, pienso edificar una casa al nombre del Señor mi Dios, como el Señor habló a mi padre David: ‘Tu hijo, a quien pondré sobre el trono en tu lugar, él edificará la casa a Mi nombre.’

6 N ow therefore command thou that they cut me cedar-trees out of Lebanon; and my servants shall be with thy servants; and I will give thee hire for thy servants according to all that thou shalt say: for thou knowest that there is not among us any that knoweth how to cut timber like unto the Sidonians.

Ahora pues, ordena que me corten cedros del Líbano, y mis siervos estarán con tus siervos. Te daré salarios para tus siervos conforme a todo lo que tú digas, pues sabes que no hay nadie entre nosotros que sepa labrar madera como los Sidonios.”

7 A nd it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be Jehovah this day, who hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.

Cuando Hiram oyó las palabras de Salomón, se alegró mucho y dijo: “Bendito sea hoy el Señor, que ha dado a David un hijo sabio sobre este pueblo tan numeroso.”

8 A nd Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have heard the message which thou hast sent unto me: I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

Y envió Hiram respuesta a Salomón: “He oído el mensaje que me enviaste; haré lo que tú quieras en cuanto a las maderas de cedro y de ciprés.

9 M y servants shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea; and I will make them into rafts to go by sea unto the place that thou shalt appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and thou shalt receive them; and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

Mis siervos las bajarán desde el Líbano hasta el mar; y haré de ellas balsas para ir por mar hasta el lugar adonde me indiques, y allí haré que las desaten y tú te las llevarás. Entonces cumplirás mi deseo dando alimento a mi casa.”

10 S o Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire.

Así Hiram dio a Salomón todo lo que deseaba de las maderas de cedro y de ciprés.

11 A nd Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household, and twenty measures of pure oil: thus gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

Y Salomón le daba a Hiram 20, 000 coros (4. 4 millones de litros) de trigo como alimento para su casa, y 20 coros (4, 400 litros) de aceite batido. Esto daba Salomón a Hiram año tras año.

12 A nd Jehovah gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and they two made a league together.

El Señor dio sabiduría a Salomón, tal como le había prometido, y hubo paz entre Hiram y Salomón, y los dos hicieron un pacto. Construcción del Templo

13 A nd king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

El rey Salomón impuso una leva (trabajo forzado) a todo Israel, y la leva fue de 30, 000 hombres.

14 A nd he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to taskwork.

Y los envió al Líbano, en relevos de 10, 000 cada mes; y se quedaban un mes en el Líbano y dos meses en su casa. Adoniram estaba al frente de la leva.

15 A nd Solomon had threescore and ten thousand that bare burdens, and fourscore thousand that were hewers in the mountains;

Salomón tenía 70, 000 hombres que llevaban las cargas, y 80, 000 canteros en las montañas,

16 b esides Solomon's chief officers that were over the work, three thousand and three hundred, who bare rule over the people that wrought in the work.

además de los 3, 300 oficiales de Salomón que estaban al frente de la obra y que gobernaban la gente que hacía el trabajo.

17 A nd the king commanded, and they hewed out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with wrought stone.

Entonces el rey dio órdenes, y sacaron grandes piedras, piedras costosas, para echar los cimientos de la casa con piedras labradas.

18 A nd Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Gebalites did fashion them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.

Y los constructores de Salomón, los constructores de Hiram y los Giblitas cortaron y prepararon las maderas y las piedras para edificar la casa (el templo).
