1 C all now; is there any that will answer thee? And to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?

“Llama ahora, ¿habrá quién te responda? ¿Y a cuál de los santos te volverás?

2 F or vexation killeth the foolish man, And jealousy slayeth the silly one.

Porque el enojo mata al insensato, Y la ira da muerte al necio.

3 I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation.

Yo he visto al insensato echar raíces, Y al instante maldije su morada.

4 H is children are far from safety, And they are crushed in the gate, Neither is there any to deliver them:

Sus hijos no tienen seguridad alguna, Aun en la puerta (de la ciudad) son oprimidos, Y no hay quien los libre.

5 W hose harvest the hungry eateth up, And taketh it even out of the thorns; And the snare gapeth for their substance.

Su cosecha la devoran los hambrientos, La toman aun de entre los espinos, Y el intrigante ansía su riqueza.

6 F or affliction cometh not forth from the dust, Neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

Porque la aflicción no viene del polvo, Ni brota el infortunio de la tierra;

7 B ut man is born unto trouble, As the sparks fly upward.

Pues el hombre nace para la aflicción, Como las chispas vuelan hacia arriba.

8 B ut as for me, I would seek unto God, And unto God would I commit my cause;

Pero en cuanto a mí, yo buscaría a Dios, Y delante de Dios presentaría mi causa;

9 W ho doeth great things and unsearchable, Marvellous things without number:

El hace cosas grandes e inescrutables, Maravillas sin número.

10 W ho giveth rain upon the earth, And sendeth waters upon the fields;

El da la lluvia sobre la superficie de la tierra, Y envía las aguas sobre los campos.

11 S o that he setteth up on high those that are low, And those that mourn are exalted to safety.

Para poner en alto a los humildes, Y levantar a los que lloran a lugar seguro.

12 H e frustrateth the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

El frustra las tramas de los astutos, Para que sus manos no tengan éxito.

13 H e taketh the wise in their own craftiness; And the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

El prende a los sabios en su propia astucia, Y el consejo de los sagaces pronto lo frustra.

14 T hey meet with darkness in the day-time, And grope at noonday as in the night.

De día tropiezan con las tinieblas, Y a mediodía andan a tientas como de noche.

15 B ut he saveth from the sword of their mouth, Even the needy from the hand of the mighty.

Pero El salva al pobre de la espada en sus bocas, Y de la mano del poderoso.

16 S o the poor hath hope, And iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

El desamparado, pues, tiene esperanza, Y la injusticia tiene que cerrar su boca.

17 B ehold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.

Cuán bienaventurado es el hombre a quien Dios reprende; No desprecies, pues, la disciplina del Todopoderoso (Shaddai).

18 F or he maketh sore, and bindeth up; He woundeth, and his hands make whole.

Porque El inflige dolor, pero da alivio; El hiere, pero Sus manos también sanan.

19 H e will deliver thee in six troubles; Yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

De seis aflicciones te librará, Y en la séptima no te tocará el mal.

20 I n famine he will redeem thee from death; And in war from the power of the sword.

En el hambre, El te salvará de la muerte, Y en la guerra, del poder de la espada.

21 T hou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue; Neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

Estarás a cubierto del azote de la lengua, Y no temerás la violencia cuando venga.

22 A t destruction and dearth thou shalt laugh; Neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

De la violencia y del hambre te reirás, Y no temerás a las fieras de la tierra.

23 F or thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

Pues con las piedras del campo harás tu alianza, Y las fieras del campo estarán en paz contigo.

24 A nd thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; And thou shalt visit thy fold, and shalt miss nothing.

Y sabrás que tu tienda está segura, Porque visitarás tu morada y no temerás pérdida alguna.

25 T hou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, And thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

También sabrás que tu descendencia será numerosa, Y tus vástagos como la hierba de la tierra.

26 T hou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, Like as a shock of grain cometh in in its season.

En pleno vigor llegarás al sepulcro, Como se recogen las gavillas a su tiempo.

27 L o this, we have searched it, so it is; Hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

Esto lo hemos examinado, y así es; óyelo, y conóce lo para tu bien.”
