1 A nd in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, saying,

En aquellos días llegó Juan el Bautista predicando en el desierto de Judea, diciendo:

2 R epent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

“Arrepiéntanse, porque el reino de los cielos se ha acercado.”

3 F or this is he that was spoken of through Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.

Porque este Juan es aquél a quien se refirió el profeta Isaías, cuando dijo: “ Voz del que clama en el desierto: ‘ Preparen el camino del Señor, hagan derechas Sus sendas.’”

4 N ow John himself had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.

Y él, Juan, tenía un vestido de pelo de camello y un cinto de cuero a la cintura; y su comida era de langostas (saltamontes) y miel silvestre.

5 T hen went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about the Jordan;

Entonces Jerusalén, toda Judea y toda la región alrededor del Jordán, acudían a él,

6 a nd they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

y confesando sus pecados, eran bautizados por Juan en el río Jordán.

7 B ut when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Pero cuando vio que muchos de los Fariseos y Saduceos venían para el bautismo, les dijo: “¡Camada de víboras! ¿Quién les enseñó a huir de la ira que está al venir ?

8 B ring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:

Por tanto, den frutos dignos de arrepentimiento;

9 a nd think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

y no piensen que pueden decirse a sí mismos: ‘Tenemos a Abraham por padre,’ porque les digo que Dios puede levantar hijos a Abraham de estas piedras.

10 A nd even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

El hacha ya está puesta a la raíz de los árboles; por tanto, todo árbol que no da buen fruto es cortado y echado al fuego.

11 I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:

Yo, en verdad, los bautizo a ustedes con agua para arrepentimiento, pero Aquél que viene detrás de mí es más poderoso que yo, a quien no soy digno de quitar las sandalias; El los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego.

12 w hose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.

El bieldo está en Su mano y limpiará completamente Su era; y recogerá Su trigo en el granero, pero quemará la paja en un fuego que no se apaga.” Bautismo de Jesús

13 T hen cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.

Entonces Jesús llegó de Galilea al Jordán, a donde estaba Juan, para ser bautizado por él.

14 B ut John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?

Pero Juan trató de impedirlo, diciendo: “Yo necesito ser bautizado por Ti, ¿y Tú vienes a mí?”

15 B ut Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.

Jesús le respondió: “Permíte lo ahora; porque es conveniente que así cumplamos toda justicia.” Entonces Juan consintió.

16 A nd Jesus when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;

Después de ser bautizado, Jesús salió del agua inmediatamente; y los cielos se abrieron en ese momento y él (Juan) vio al Espíritu de Dios que descendía como una paloma y venía sobre El.

17 a nd lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Y se oyó una voz de los cielos que decía: “Este es Mi Hijo amado en quien Me he complacido.”
