1 L a palabra del Señor vino a Jeremías durante el reinado de Joacín hijo de Josías, en Judá. Le dijo:

The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

2 « Ve a la casa de los recabitas y habla con ellos. Llévalos a uno de los aposentos en la casa del Señor, y dales a beber vino.»

Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into Yahweh’s house, into one of the rooms, and give them wine to drink.

3 Y o, Jeremías, tomé a Jazanías hijo de Jeremías y nieto de Jabasinías, y a sus hermanos y a todos sus hijos, es decir, a toda la familia de los recabitas,

Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

4 y los llevé a la casa del Señor, al aposento de los hijos de Janán hijo de Igdalías, que era un hombre de Dios. Ese aposento estaba junto al aposento de los príncipes, el cual estaba sobre el aposento de Maseías hijo de Salún, que cuidaba la puerta.

and I brought them into Yahweh’s house, into the room of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the room of the princes, which was above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

5 A todos los miembros de la familia de los recabitas les serví tazas y copas llenas de vino, y los invité a beber;

I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, Drink wine!

6 p ero ellos dijeron: «Nosotros no bebemos vino, porque nuestro padre, Jonadab hijo de Recab, nos ordenó que jamás bebiéramos vino, ni nosotros ni nuestros hijos.

But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your sons, forever:

7 T ambién nos ordenó que no construyéramos casas, ni cultiváramos la tierra ni plantáramos viñas, ni las poseyéramos. Nos dijo que, si queríamos vivir muchos años en la tierra que habitamos, debíamos vivir siempre en tiendas de campaña.

neither shall you build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land in which you live.

8 » Nosotros hemos obedecido las órdenes de nuestro padre, Jonadab hijo de Recab. Nunca hemos bebido vino, ni tampoco nuestras mujeres, ni nuestros hijos e hijas,

We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he commanded us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;

9 T ampoco construimos casas para habitarlas, ni tenemos viñas ni terrenos, ni cultivamos el campo.

nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

10 V ivimos en tiendas de campaña, y hemos obedecido al pie de la letra todo lo que nos mandó nuestro padre Jonadab.

but we have lived in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

11 S in embargo, sucedió que cuando Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia invadió el país, decidimos venir a Jerusalén y ocultarnos aquí de la presencia de los ejércitos caldeos y sirios. Así fue como nos quedamos en Jerusalén.»

But when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, we said, “Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we will dwell at Jerusalem.”

12 L a palabra del Señor vino entonces a Jeremías, y le dijo:

Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

13 « Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Ve y pregúntales a los habitantes de Judá y de Jerusalén cuándo aprenderán a obedecer mis palabras. —Palabra del Señor.

Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Go, and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words? says Yahweh.

14 » Las palabras de Jonadab hijo de Recab fueron muy firmes cuando les mandó a sus hijos que no bebieran vino, y ellos, en obediencia al mandamiento de su padre, no lo han bebido hasta el día de hoy; en cambio, yo les he hablado a ustedes una y otra vez, y no me han hecho caso.

The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father’s commandment: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me.

15 D e igual manera, una y otra vez envié a todos mis siervos los profetas para que les dijeran que se apartaran de su mal camino y corrigieran sus actos, y que no siguieran a los dioses ajenos ni les sirvieran, para que vivieran en la tierra que les di a ustedes y a sus padres. Pero ustedes no me prestaron oído ni me hicieron caso.

I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.

16 N o hay duda de que los hijos de Jonadab hijo de Recab reconocieron la firmeza del mandamiento que les dio su padre; pero este pueblo no ha querido obedecerme.

Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me;

17 » Por lo tanto, yo, el Señor y Dios de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, declaro que voy a lanzar sobre Judá y sobre todos los habitantes de Jerusalén todo el mal que contra ellos he anunciado. Porque les hablé, y no me hicieron caso; los llamé, y no me respondieron.»

therefore Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.

18 A la familia de los recabitas, Jeremías dijo: «Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Puesto que ustedes obedecieron al mandamiento de Jonadab, su padre, y cumplieron todos sus mandamientos y actuaron en conformidad con todo lo que él les mandó hacer,

Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you;

19 y o, el Señor de los ejércitos y Dios de Israel, declaro que siempre estará en mi presencia un descendiente de Jonadab hijo de Recab.»

therefore Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
