1 R oboán fue a Jerusalén y reunió a ciento ochenta mil hombres de los más aguerridos de la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, para pelear contra Israel y hacer que el reino volviera a manos de Roboán.

When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

2 P ero la palabra del Señor vino a Semaías, hombre de Dios, y le dijo:

But Yahweh’s word came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

3 « Habla con Roboán hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y con todos los israelitas de Judá y Benjamín, y diles

“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

4 q ue yo, el Señor, he dicho: “No vayan a pelear contra sus hermanos. Más bien, vuelvan a sus casas, porque esto lo he promovido yo.”» Ellos obedecieron la palabra del Señor y volvieron a sus casas, y ya no fueron a pelear contra Jeroboán. Prosperidad de Roboán

‘Yahweh says, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers! Return every man to his house; for this thing is of me.”’” So they listened to Yahweh’s words, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

5 R oboán reinó en Jerusalén, y edificó ciudades para fortificar a Judá.

Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

6 E dificó Belén, Etam, Tecoa,

He built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

7 B etsur, Soco, Adulán,

Beth Zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

8 G at, Maresa, Zif,

and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

9 A dorayin, Laquis, Azeca,

and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

10 S orá, Ayalón y Hebrón, que eran ciudades fortificadas de Judá y Benjamín.

and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

11 R eforzó también las fortalezas, y puso en ellas capitanes, provisiones, vino y aceite.

He fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine.

12 A demás, en todas las ciudades puso escudos y lanzas, de modo que las fortificó en gran manera, y Judá y Benjamín eran súbditos suyos.

He put shields and spears in every city, and made them exceeding strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

13 L os sacerdotes y levitas que había en todo Israel vinieron desde todos los lugares donde vivían y se unieron a él.

The priests and the Levites who were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border.

14 Y es que los levitas dejaban sus ejidos y sus posesiones, y venían a Judá y a Jerusalén porque Jeroboán y sus hijos los habían excluido del ministerio del Señor;

For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest’s office to Yahweh;

15 h abían designado sus propios sacerdotes para los lugares altos y para el culto a los demonios y a los becerros que se había hecho.

and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the male goats, and for the calves which he had made.

16 T ras los levitas se fueron muchos de las tribus de Israel que de corazón se habían dispuesto a buscar al Señor y Dios de Israel, así que llegaron a Jerusalén para ofrecer sacrificios al Señor y Dios de sus padres.

After them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek Yahweh, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

17 D e este modo fortalecieron el reino de Judá, y durante tres años confirmaron a Roboán hijo de Salomón y anduvieron en el camino de David y de Salomón.

So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.

18 R oboán tomó por mujer a Majalat hija de Jerimot, que era hijo de David y de Abijaíl, la hija de Eliab hijo de Yesé.

Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

19 M ajalat le dio los siguientes hijos: Jeús, Semarías y Soán.

and she bore him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

20 D espués de ella, Roboán tomó a Macá hija de Absalón, con quien engendró a Abías, Atay, Ziza y Selomit.

After her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

21 Y aunque Roboán tuvo dieciocho mujeres y sesenta concubinas, y engendró veintiocho hijos y sesenta hijas, amó a Macá hija de Absalón más que a todas sus mujeres y concubinas.

Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and sixty concubines, and became the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.)

22 A Abías hijo de Macá, Roboán lo nombro jefe y príncipe de sus hermanos, pues pensaba nombrarlo rey.

Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, the prince among his brothers; for he intended to make him king.

23 P or eso, con mucha astucia esparció a todos sus hijos por todas las tierras de Judá y de Benjamín, y por todas las ciudades fortificadas, y les dio muchas mujeres y provisiones en abundancia.

He dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city: and he gave them food in abundance. He sought for them many wives.
