1 J esús comenzó a enseñar una vez más a la orilla del lago, y fue tanta la gente que se reunió alrededor de él, que se subió a una barca que estaba en el lago y se sentó allí, mientras que la gente se quedó en la orilla.

Again he began to teach by the seaside. A great multitude was gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat in the sea, and sat down. All the multitude were on the land by the sea.

2 M uchas cosas les enseñó por medio de parábolas, y en sus enseñanzas les decía:

He taught them many things in parables, and told them in his teaching,

3 « Presten atención. Resulta que un sembrador salió a sembrar.

“Listen! Behold, the farmer went out to sow,

4 A l sembrar, una parte de las semillas cayó junto al camino, y vinieron las aves del cielo y se la comieron.

and as he sowed, some seed fell by the road, and the birds came and devoured it.

5 O tra parte cayó entre las piedras, donde no había mucha tierra, y enseguida brotó, porque la tierra no era profunda,

Others fell on the rocky ground, where it had little soil, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil.

6 p ero en cuanto salió el sol, se quemó y se secó, porque no tenía raíz.

When the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

7 O tra parte cayó entre espinos, pero los espinos crecieron y la ahogaron, de modo que no dio fruto.

Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

8 P ero otra parte cayó en buena tierra, y brotó y creció y dio fruto, y rindió una cosecha de treinta y sesenta, y hasta de ciento por uno.»

Others fell into the good ground, and yielded fruit, growing up and increasing. Some produced thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times as much.”

9 E ntonces les dijo: «El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga.»

He said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”

10 C uando se quedó solo, los que estaban cerca de él junto con los doce le preguntaron qué quería decir la parábola.

When he was alone, those who were around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.

11 É l les respondió: «A ustedes se les concede entender el misterio del reino de Dios; pero a los que están afuera todo se les dice por parábolas,

He said to them, “To you is given the mystery of God’s Kingdom, but to those who are outside, all things are done in parables,

12 p ara que “viendo, vean y no entiendan; y oyendo, oigan y no comprendan; no sea que se conviertan y sus pecados les sean perdonados”.»

that ‘seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest perhaps they should turn again, and their sins should be forgiven them.’”

13 T ambién les dijo: «Si no entienden ustedes esta parábola, ¿cómo podrán entender todas las demás?

He said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How will you understand all of the parables?

14 E l sembrador es el que siembra la palabra.

The farmer sows the word.

15 A lgunos son como lo sembrado junto al camino. En ellos se siembra la palabra, pero enseguida, después de oírla, viene Satanás y les arrebata la palabra sembrada en su corazón.

The ones by the road are the ones where the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately Satan comes, and takes away the word which has been sown in them.

16 O tros son como lo sembrado entre las piedras. Al oír la palabra, enseguida la reciben con gozo;

These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.

17 p ero, como no tienen raíz, su vida es muy corta, y al venir las aflicciones o la persecución por causa de la palabra, enseguida tropiezan.

They have no root in themselves, but are short-lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

18 O tros son como los que fueron sembrados entre espinos. Éstos son los que oyen la palabra,

Others are those who are sown among the thorns. These are those who have heard the word,

19 p ero las preocupaciones de este mundo, el engaño de las riquezas, y la codicia por otras cosas, entran en ellos y ahogan la palabra, por lo que ésta no llega a dar fruto.

and the cares of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

20 P ero hay otros, que son como lo sembrado en buena tierra. Son los que oyen la palabra y la reciben, y rinden fruto; ¡dan treinta, sesenta y hasta cien semillas por cada semilla sembrada!» Nada oculto queda sin manifestarse

Those which were sown on the good ground are those who hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, some thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times.”

21 T ambién les dijo: «¿Acaso la luz se enciende para ponerla debajo de un cajón, o debajo de la cama? Al contrario, ¡se enciende para ponerla en el candelero!

He said to them, “Is the lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Isn’t it put on a stand?

22 P orque no hay nada oculto que no llegue a manifestarse, ni hay nada escondido que no salga a la luz.

For there is nothing hidden, except that it should be made known; neither was anything made secret, but that it should come to light.

23 S i alguno tiene oídos para oír, que oiga.»

If any man has ears to hear, let him hear.”

24 T ambién les dijo: «Fíjense bien en lo que oyen, porque con la medida con que ustedes midan a otros, serán medidos, y hasta más se les añadirá.

He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you, and more will be given to you who hear.

25 P orque al que tiene, se le dará; y al que no tiene, hasta lo poco que tiene se le arrebatará.» Parábola del crecimiento de la semilla

For whoever has, to him will more be given, and he who doesn’t have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.”

26 J esús dijo también: «El reino de Dios es como cuando un hombre arroja semilla sobre la tierra:

He said, “God’s Kingdom is as if a man should cast seed on the earth,

27 y a sea que él duerma o esté despierto, de día y de noche la semilla brota y crece, sin que él sepa cómo.

and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, he doesn’t know how.

28 Y es que la tierra da fruto por sí misma: primero sale una hierba, luego la espiga, y después el grano se llena en la espiga;

For the earth bears fruit: first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.

29 y cuando el grano madura, enseguida se mete la hoz, porque ya es tiempo de cosechar.» Parábola de la semilla de mostaza

But when the fruit is ripe, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

30 T ambién dijo: «¿Con qué vamos a comparar el reino de Dios? ¿Qué parábola nos sirve de comparación?

He said, “How will we liken God’s Kingdom? Or with what parable will we illustrate it?

31 P uede compararse con el grano de mostaza, que al sembrarlo en la tierra es la más pequeña de todas las semillas,

It’s like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, though it is less than all the seeds that are on the earth,

32 p ero que después de sembrada crece hasta convertirse en la más grande de todas las plantas, y echa ramas tan grandes que aun las aves pueden poner su nido bajo su sombra.» Aplicación de las parábolas

yet when it is sown, grows up, and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches, so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow.”

33 C on muchas parábolas como éstas Jesús les hablaba de la palabra, hasta donde podían entender,

With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.

34 y sin parábolas no les hablaba, aunque a sus discípulos les explicaba todo en privado. Jesús calma la tempestad

Without a parable he didn’t speak to them; but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

35 E se mismo día, al caer la noche, Jesús les dijo a sus discípulos: «Pasemos al otro lado.»

On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side.”

36 D espidió a la multitud, y partieron con él en la barca donde estaba. También otras barcas lo acompañaron.

Leaving the multitude, they took him with them, even as he was, in the boat. Other small boats were also with him.

37 P ero se levantó una gran tempestad con vientos, y de tal manera las olas azotaban la barca, que ésta estaba por inundarse.

A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled.

38 J esús estaba en la popa, y dormía sobre una almohada. Lo despertaron y le dijeron: «¡Maestro! ¿Acaso no te importa que estamos por naufragar?»

He himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion, and they woke him up, and told him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?”

39 J esús se levantó y reprendió al viento, y dijo a las aguas: «¡Silencio! ¡A callar!» Y el viento se calmó, y todo quedó en completa calma.

He awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

40 A sus discípulos les dijo: «¿Por qué tienen tanto miedo? ¿Cómo es que no tienen fe?»

He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”

41 E llos estaban muy asustados, y se decían unos a otros: «¿Quién es éste, que hasta el viento y las aguas lo obedecen?»

They were greatly afraid, and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
