1 A bías descansó entre sus antepasados y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David, y en su lugar reinó su hijo Asa, y durante su reinado el país estuvo en paz durante diez años.

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in David’s city; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet ten years.

2 A sa hizo lo bueno y lo recto ante los ojos del Señor su Dios,

Asa did that which was good and right in Yahweh his God’s eyes:

3 p ues quitó los altares de culto ajenos y los lugares altos, hizo pedazos los ídolos y derribó los símbolos de Asera,

for he took away the foreign altars, and the high places, and broke down the pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles,

4 y ordenó a Judá buscar al Señor, el Dios de sus padres, y poner por obra la ley y sus mandamientos.

and commanded Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

5 A demás, quitó de todas las ciudades de Judá los lugares altos y los ídolos, y bajo su reinado hubo paz.

Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.

6 P recisamente porque en ese tiempo había paz y nadie le hacía la guerra, pues el Señor le había dado paz, Asa construyó en Judá ciudades fortificadas.

He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Yahweh had given him rest.

7 L es dijo a los de Judá: «Edifiquemos estas ciudades, y levantemos murallas a su alrededor, con torres, puertas y cerrojos, pues la tierra es nuestra. Nosotros hemos buscado al Señor nuestro Dios, y porque lo hemos buscado, él nos ha dado paz en todas partes.» En la construcción tuvieron mucho éxito.

For he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities, and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought Yahweh our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

8 A demás, Asa tenía un ejército armado de lanzas y escudos, todos ellos soldados bien entrenados para lanzar flechas. De Judá eran trescientos mil, y de Benjamín doscientos ochenta mil.

Asa had an army that bore bucklers and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew bows, two hundred eighty thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.

9 Z eraj el etíope salió a presentarles batalla con un ejército de un millón de hombres y trescientos carros de guerra; y llegó hasta Maresa.

There came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a million troops, and three hundred chariots; and he came to Mareshah.

10 A sa salió a su encuentro, y libraron la batalla en el valle de Sefata, junto a Maresa.

Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

11 A llí Asa clamó al Señor su Dios, y dijo: «¡Ay, Señor! Para ti no hay diferencia alguna en brindar tu ayuda al poderoso o al débil. ¡Ayúdanos, Señor y Dios nuestro, porque en ti confiamos y en tu nombre venimos contra este ejército! Tú, Señor, eres nuestro Dios; ¡que no prevalezca el hombre contra ti!»

Asa cried to Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, Yahweh our God; for we rely on you, and in your name are we come against this multitude. Yahweh, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”

12 E l Señor derrotó a los etíopes que se enfrentaron contra Asa y Judá, y los etíopes huyeron.

So Yahweh struck the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

13 A sa y su ejército los persiguieron hasta Gerar, y los etíopes fueron derrotados hasta no quedar uno solo con vida. Fueron derrotados delante del Señor y de su ejército, y se les quitó un gran botín de guerra.

Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar: and there fell of the Ethiopians so many that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before Yahweh, and before his army; and they carried away very much booty.

14 A demás, el terror del Señor cayó sobre todas las ciudades alrededor de Gerar, y como había en ellas grandes riquezas, Asa y los suyos las saquearon,

They struck all the cities around Gerar; for the fear of Yahweh came on them: and they plundered all the cities; for there was much plunder in them.

15 y atacaron también las cabañas de los que tenían ganado, y antes de volver a Jerusalén se llevaron muchas ovejas y camellos.

They struck also the tents of livestock, and carried away sheep in abundance, and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.
