1 S i el Señor no edifica la casa, de nada sirve que los edificadores se esfuercen. Si el Señor no protege la ciudad, de nada sirve que los guardias la vigilen.

Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.

2 D e nada sirve que ustedes madruguen, y que se acuesten muy tarde, si el pan que comen es pan de sufrimiento, y el Señor da el sueño a los que él ama.

It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil; for he gives sleep to his loved ones.

3 L os hijos son un regalo del Señor; los frutos del vientre son nuestra recompensa.

Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward.

4 L os hijos que nos nacen en nuestra juventud son como flechas en manos de un guerrero.

As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth.

5 ¡ Dichoso aquél que llena su aljaba con muchas de estas flechas! No tendrá de qué avergonzarse cuando se defienda ante sus enemigos.

Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them. They won’t be disappointed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
