Why are times not laid up by the Almighty? And why do not they that know him see his days?

2 N o respetan los linderos de las tierras; roban ganado para aumentar lo que tienen;

There are that remove the landmarks; They violently take away flocks, and feed them.

3 a l huérfano lo despojan de su asno, a la viuda le quitan en prenda su buey.

They drive away the ass of the fatherless; They take the widow's ox for a pledge.

4 A los que nada tienen, los apartan del camino; por miedo, se esconden los pobres de la tierra.

They turn the needy out of the way: The poor of the earth all hide themselves.

5 E sa gente es insaciable. Son como asnos del monte. Se levantan de mañana dispuestos a robar; con sus robos del desierto alimentan a sus hijos.

Behold, as wild asses in the desert They go forth to their work, seeking diligently for food; The wilderness yieldeth them bread for their children.

6 E sos malvados espigan en campos ajenos, y rebuscan en las viñas de otra gente.

They cut their provender in the field; And they glean the vintage of the wicked.

7 H acen que el desnudo duerma sin ropa, sin nada que pueda protegerlos del intenso frío.

They lie all night naked without clothing, And have no covering in the cold.

8 L a lluvia de los montes los empapa, y buscan refugio en los huecos de las peñas.

They are wet with the showers of the mountains, And embrace the rock for want of a shelter.

9 A l recién nacido lo apartan del pecho, y lo toman como prenda por las deudas;

There are that pluck the fatherless from the breast, And take a pledge of the poor;

10 a los pobres los dejan desnudos, y a los hambrientos los despojan de su pan.

So that they go about naked without clothing, And being hungry they carry the sheaves.

11 S e esconden en su casa para extraer aceite, dicen que fabrican vino, pero se mueren de sed.

They make oil within the walls of these men; They tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.

12 E n la ciudad se escuchan los gemidos del moribundo, y claman las gargantas de los heridos de muerte, pero Dios no escucha su oración.

From out of the populous city men groan, And the soul of the wounded crieth out: Yet God regardeth not the folly.

13 » Ellos son los que no amaron la luz, ni conocieron los caminos de Dios, ni jamás estuvieron en sus veredas.

These are of them that rebel against the light; They know not the ways thereof, Nor abide in the paths thereof.

14 A manece, y el malvado se levanta, y mata al pobre y al necesitado; anochece, y se convierte en vil ladrón.

The murderer riseth with the light; He killeth the poor and needy; And in the night he is as a thief.

15 E l adúltero espera la oscuridad de la noche, con la idea de que nadie lo verá; cubre su rostro para que nadie lo vea.

The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, Saying, No eye shall see me: And he disguiseth his face.

16 U sa las tinieblas para perpetrar sus robos, en casas previamente señaladas en el día; no saben lo que es la luz.

In the dark they dig through houses: They shut themselves up in the day-time; They know not the light.

17 P ara esos malvados, el día es la sombra de la muerte; si son descubiertos, pueden darse por muertos.

For the morning is to all of them as thick darkness; For they know the terrors of the thick darkness.

18 » Huyen ligeros, como las corrientes de agua; Todo lo que tienen está bajo maldición, y nadie querrá trabajar en sus viñas.

Swiftly they pass away upon the face of the waters; Their portion is cursed in the earth: They turn not into the way of the vineyards.

19 C on la sequía y el calor se derrite la nieve, y con el sepulcro se esfuma el hombre pecador;

Drought and heat consume the snow waters: So doth Sheol those that have sinned.

20 s u propia madre se olvida de ellos, que se convierten en el deleite de los gusanos. Nadie guarda de ellos ningún recuerdo, pues son arrancados como todo árbol seco.

The womb shall forget him; The worm shall feed sweetly on him; He shall be no more remembered; And unrighteousness shall be broken as a tree.

21 A las mujeres estériles afligieron, y a las viudas nunca las trataron bien.

He devoureth the barren that beareth not, And doeth not good to the widow.

22 P ero la fuerza de Dios derriba a los poderosos; cuando Dios se presenta, nadie tiene segura la vida.

Yet God preserveth the mighty by his power: He riseth up that hath no assurance of life.

23 D ios les infunde confianza y los deja vivir, pero no les quita los ojos de encima.

God giveth them to be in security, and they rest thereon; And his eyes are upon their ways.

24 A unque fueron poderosos, su vida llega a su fin, pues la muerte los alcanza como a todos los demás. Su vida es segada, como si fueran espigas.

They are exalted; yet a little while, and they are gone; Yea, they are brought low, they are taken out of the way as all others, And are cut off as the tops of the ears of grain.

25 ¿ Quién puede desmentir lo que ya he dicho? ¿Quien puede reducir a nada mis palabras?»

And if it be not so now, who will prove me a liar, And make my speech nothing worth?
