1 E n el principio ya existía la Palabra. La Palabra estaba con Dios, y Dios mismo era la Palabra.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 L a Palabra estaba en el principio con Dios.

The same was in the beginning with God.

3 P or ella fueron hechas todas las cosas. Sin ella nada fue hecho de lo que ha sido hecho.

All things were made through him; and without him was not anything made that hath been made.

4 E n ella estaba la vida, y la vida era la luz de la humanidad.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 L a luz resplandece en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no prevalecieron contra ella.

And the light shineth in the darkness; and the darkness apprehended it not.

6 H ubo un hombre enviado de Dios, el cual se llamaba Juan.

There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.

7 É ste vino por testimonio, para dar testimonio de la luz, a fin de que todos creyeran por él.

The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him.

8 É l no era la luz, sino que vino para dar testimonio de la luz.

He was not the light, but came that he might bear witness of the light.

9 L a Palabra, la luz verdadera, la que alumbra a todo hombre, venía a este mundo.

There was the true light, even the light which lighteth every man, coming into the world.

10 E n el mundo estaba, y el mundo fue hecho por ella, pero el mundo no la conoció.

He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not.

11 L a Palabra vino a lo suyo, pero los suyos no la recibieron.

He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not.

12 P ero a todos los que la recibieron, a los que creen en su nombre, les dio la potestad de ser hechos hijos de Dios;

But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 l os cuales no son engendrados de sangre, ni de voluntad de carne, ni de voluntad de varón, sino de Dios.

who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 Y la Palabra se hizo carne, y habitó entre nosotros, y vimos su gloria (la gloria que corresponde al unigénito del Padre), llena de gracia y de verdad.

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.

15 J uan dio testimonio de ella, y clamó diciendo: «De ella es de quien yo decía: “Viene después de mí, pero es anterior a mí; porque ya existía antes que yo.”»

John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is become before me: for he was before me.

16 C iertamente de su plenitud tomamos todos, y gracia sobre gracia.

For of his fulness we all received, and grace for grace.

17 L a ley fue dada por medio de Moisés, pero la gracia y la verdad vinieron por medio de Jesucristo.

For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

18 A Dios nadie lo vio jamás; quien lo ha dado a conocer es el Hijo unigénito, que está en el seno del Padre. Testimonio de Juan el Bautista

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

19 É ste es el testimonio de Juan. Cuando los judíos enviaron desde Jerusalén sacerdotes y levitas para que le preguntaran: «Tú, ¿quién eres?»,

And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent unto him from Jerusalem priests and Levites to ask him, Who art thou?

20 J uan confesó, y no negó, sino que confesó: «Yo no soy el Cristo.»

And he confessed, and denied not; and he confessed, I am not the Christ.

21 Y le preguntaron: «Entonces, ¿qué? ¿Eres Elías?» Dijo: «No lo soy.» «¿Entonces eres el profeta?» Y él respondió: «No.»

And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.

22 L e dijeron: «¿Quién eres, entonces? Para que demos respuesta a los que nos enviaron, ¿qué dices de ti mismo?»

They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?

23 J uan dijo: «Yo soy la voz que clama en el desierto: “Enderecen el camino del Señor”, como dijo el profeta Isaías.»

He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.

24 L os que habían sido enviados eran de los fariseos,

And they had been sent from the Pharisees.

25 y le preguntaron: «Entonces, si tú no eres el Cristo, ni Elías, ni el profeta, ¿por qué bautizas?»

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet?

26 J uan les respondió: «Yo bautizo con agua; pero en medio de ustedes está uno, a quien ustedes no conocen.

John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not,

27 É ste viene después de mí, del cual no soy digno de desatar la correa de su calzado.»

even he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose.

28 E stas cosas sucedieron en Betábara, al otro lado del Jordán, donde Juan estaba bautizando. El Cordero de Dios

These things were done in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

29 E l siguiente día Juan vio que Jesús venía hacia él, y dijo: «Éste es el Cordero de Dios, que quita el pecado del mundo.

On the morrow he seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, that taketh away the sin of the world!

30 É l es de quien yo dije: “Después de mí viene un varón, el cual es antes de mí; porque era primero que yo.”

This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man who is become before me: for he was before me.

31 Y o no lo conocía; pero vine bautizando con agua para esto: para que él fuera manifestado a Israel.»

And I knew him not; but that he should be made manifest to Israel, for this cause came I baptizing in water.

32 J uan también dio testimonio y dijo: «Vi al Espíritu descender del cielo como paloma, y permanecer sobre él.

And John bare witness, saying, I have beheld the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven; and it abode upon him.

33 Y o no lo conocía; pero el que me envió a bautizar con agua me dijo: “Aquél sobre quien veas que el Espíritu desciende, y que permanece sobre él, es el que bautiza con el Espíritu Santo.”

And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize in water, he said unto me, Upon whomsoever thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and abiding upon him, the same is he that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.

34 Y yo lo he visto, y he dado testimonio de que éste es el Hijo de Dios.» Los primeros discípulos

And I have seen, and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.

35 A l día siguiente, Juan estaba de nuevo allí con dos de sus discípulos.

Again on the morrow John was standing, and two of his disciples;

36 A l ver a Jesús, que andaba por allí, dijo: «Éste es el Cordero de Dios.»

and he looked upon Jesus as he walked, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God!

37 L os dos discípulos lo oyeron hablar, y siguieron a Jesús.

And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

38 J esús se volvió y, al ver que lo seguían, les dijo: «¿Qué buscan?» Ellos le dijeron: «Rabí (que traducido significa “Maestro”), ¿dónde vives?»

And Jesus turned, and beheld them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? And they said unto him, Rabbi (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), where abideth thou?

39 L es dijo: «Vengan y vean.» Ellos fueron, y vieron donde vivía, y se quedaron con él aquel día, porque ya eran como las cuatro de la tarde.

He saith unto them, Come, and ye shall see. They came therefore and saw where he abode; and they abode with him that day: it was about the tenth hour.

40 A ndrés, el hermano de Simón Pedro, era uno de los dos que habían oído a Juan y habían seguido a Jesús.

One of the two that heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.

41 É ste halló primero a Simón, su hermano, y le dijo: «Hemos hallado al Mesías (que traducido significa “el Cristo”).»

He findeth first his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah (which is, being interpreted, Christ).

42 E ntonces lo llevó a Jesús, quien al verlo dijo: «Tú eres Simón, el hijo de Jonás; tú serás llamado Cefas (que quiere decir, Pedro ).» Jesús llama a Felipe y a Natanael

He brought him unto Jesus. Jesus looked upon him, and said, Thou art Simon the son of John: thou shalt be called Cephas (which is by interpretation, Peter).

43 A l día siguiente, Jesús quiso ir a Galilea, y halló a Felipe y le dijo: «Sígueme.»

On the morrow he was minded to go forth into Galilee, and he findeth Philip: and Jesus saith unto him, Follow me.

44 F elipe era de Betsaida, la ciudad de Andrés y Pedro.

Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter.

45 Y Felipe halló a Natanael y le dijo: «Hemos hallado a aquél de quien escribió Moisés en la ley, y también los profetas: a Jesús, el hijo de José, de Nazaret.»

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

46 N atanael le dijo: «¿Y de Nazaret puede salir algo bueno?» Y le dijo Felipe: «Ven a ver.»

And Nathanael said unto him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.

47 C uando Jesús vio que Natanael se le acercaba, dijo de él: «Aquí tienen a un verdadero israelita, en quien no hay engaño.»

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!

48 N atanael le dijo: «¿Y de dónde me conoces?» Jesús le respondió: «Te vi antes de que Felipe te llamara, cuando estabas debajo de la higuera.»

Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.

49 N atanael le dijo: «Rabí, ¡tú eres el Hijo de Dios!; ¡tú eres el Rey de Israel!»

Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art King of Israel.

50 J esús le respondió: «¿Crees sólo porque te dije que te vi debajo de la higuera? ¡Pues cosas mayores que éstas verás!»

Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee underneath the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.

51 T ambién le dijo: «De cierto, de cierto les digo, que de aquí en adelante verán el cielo abierto, y a los ángeles de Dios subir y bajar sobre el Hijo del Hombre.»

And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye shall see the heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
