1 J osías tenía ocho años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó treinta y un años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Yedidá hija de Adaías, y era de Boscat.

Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty and one years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

2 J osías hizo lo recto a los ojos del Señor y se condujo en todo como su antepasado David, sin apartarse un ápice. Hallazgo del libro de la ley

And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.

3 E n el año dieciocho de su reinado, Josías envió al escriba Safán, que era hijo de Azalía y nieto de Mesulán, al templo del Señor, con estas instrucciones:

And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Jehovah, saying,

4 « Ve a ver al sumo sacerdote Hilcías, y dile que recoja el dinero que el pueblo ha traído al templo del Señor, y que han recibido los guardianes de la puerta.

Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the money which is brought into the house of Jehovah, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people:

5 D ile que entreguen ese dinero a los que tienen a su cargo las obras de reparación del templo del Señor, y a los que están reparando las grietas del templo;

and let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah; and let them give it to the workmen that are in the house of Jehovah, to repair the breaches of the house,

6 e s decir, a los carpinteros, maestros y albañiles, y a los que compran la madera y la piedra de cantería para reparar el templo.

unto the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

7 D ile que no les pidan cuentas del dinero que se les confíe, porque ellos proceden con honradez.»

Howbeit there was no reckoning made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand; for they dealt faithfully.

8 E l sumo sacerdote Hilcías dijo entonces al escriba Safán: «He hallado en el templo del Señor el libro de la ley.» Y no sólo le dio el libro a Safán, sino que se lo leyó.

And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of Jehovah. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

9 Y cuando el escriba Safán se presentó ante el rey, le dijo: «Tus siervos han recogido el dinero que había en el templo, y se lo han entregado a los que hacen las obras y tienen a su cargo los arreglos del templo del Señor.»

And Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, Thy servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen that have the oversight of the house of Jehovah.

10 A demás, el escriba Safán le informó al rey: «El sacerdote Hilcías me ha dado un libro.» Enseguida, Safán se lo leyó al rey.

And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king.

11 Y en cuanto el rey escuchó las palabras del libro de la ley, se rasgó las vestiduras

And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

12 y ordenó al sacerdote Hilcías, a Ajicán hijo de Safán, a Acbor hijo de Micaías, al escriba Safán y a su siervo Asaías, lo siguiente:

And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,

13 « Vayan y consulten al Señor por mí y por el pueblo, y por todo Judá, en cuanto a las palabras de este libro que se ha hallado. Con toda seguridad la ira del Señor se ha encendido contra nosotros en gran manera, pues nuestros padres no atendieron a las palabras de este libro, para conducirse en conformidad con todo lo que nos fue escrito.»

Go ye, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the wrath of Jehovah that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.

14 E ntonces el sacerdote Hilcías, y Ajicán, Acbor, Safán y Asaías, fueron a ver a la profetisa Julda, que era la mujer de Salún, que cuidaba las vestiduras y era hijo de Ticva y nieto de Jarjás. Julda vivía en la segunda parte de la ciudad de Jerusalén. Hablaron con ella,

So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they communed with her.

15 y ella les dijo: «Así ha dicho el Señor, el Dios de Israel: “Digan al varón que los envió a consultarme,

And she said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Tell ye the man that sent you unto me,

16 q ue yo, el Señor, voy a traer sobre este lugar, y sobre sus habitantes, todo el mal de que habla este libro que ha leído el rey de Judá.

Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read.

17 L o haré porque me abandonaron, quemaron incienso a dioses extraños, y provocaron mi enojo con todo lo que han hecho. Mi ira se ha encendido contra este lugar, y no se apagará.

Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.

18 P ero al rey de Judá que los ha enviado a consultarme le dirán que yo, el Señor y Dios de Israel, he dicho: Puesto que tú has prestado atención a las palabras del libro,

But unto the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Jehovah, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: As touching the words which thou hast heard,

19 y tu corazón se enterneció, y te humillaste delante de mí cuando oíste mi sentencia contra este lugar y contra sus habitantes, los cuales van a ser asolados y malditos, y puesto que te rasgaste las vestiduras y lloraste en mi presencia, también yo te he prestado atención. —Palabra del Señor.

because thy heart was tender, and thou didst humble thyself before Jehovah, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith Jehovah.

20 ” Por lo tanto, yo te reuniré con tus antepasados, y serás llevado a tu sepulcro en paz, y ya no verás todo el mal que voy a traer sobre este lugar.”» Ellos llevaron al rey la respuesta.

Therefore, behold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace, neither shall thine eyes see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.
