1 E l rey Josafat de Judá volvió a su casa en Jerusalén en paz.

And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

2 P ero le salió al encuentro el vidente Jehú hijo de Jananí, y le dijo al rey Josafat: «¿Así que ayudas al impío, y amas a los que odian al Señor? Pues por esto, de la presencia del Señor ha salido su ira contra ti.

And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldest thou help the wicked, and love them that hate Jehovah? for this thing wrath is upon thee from before Jehovah.

3 S in embargo, se han hallado en ti buenas acciones, pues has quitado del país las imágenes de Asera, y de corazón te has dispuesto a buscar a Dios.» Josafat nombra jueces

Nevertheless there are good things found in thee, in that thou hast put away the Asheroth out of the land, and hast set thy heart to seek God.

4 A unque Josafat reinaba en Jerusalén, solía salir para visitar a su pueblo y guiarlos hacia el Señor y Dios de sus padres. Iba desde Berseba hasta el monte de Efraín,

And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again among the people from Beer-sheba to the hill-country of Ephraim, and brought them back unto Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

5 y nombraba jueces por todas partes y por todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá.

And he set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,

6 A los jueces les decía: «Tengan cuidado con lo que hacen, pues no imparten justicia de parte de ningún hombre, sino de parte del Señor. Si sus sentencias son justas, él estará con ustedes.

and said to the judges, Consider what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for Jehovah; and he is with you in the judgment.

7 A sí que tengan cuidado con lo que hacen, y que el temor del Señor sea con ustedes. Con el Señor, nuestro Dios, no hay injusticia, ni acepción de personas, ni hay lugar para el soborno.»

Now therefore let the fear of Jehovah be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with Jehovah our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.

8 A demás, Josafat nombró en Jerusalén a algunos de los levitas y sacerdotes, y de los padres de familias de Israel, para que impartieran justicia y legislaran los casos en nombre del Señor. Éstos vivían en Jerusalén.

Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites and the priests, and of the heads of the fathers' houses of Israel, for the judgment of Jehovah, and for controversies. And they returned to Jerusalem.

9 J osafat les dio esta orden: «Ustedes deberán proceder con temor del Señor, y con verdad, y con integridad de corazón.

And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of Jehovah, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.

10 E n cualquier caso que les presenten sus hermanos que habitan en las ciudades, por ejemplo, en casos de un asesinato, o en cuestiones de la ley y sus preceptos, estatutos y decretos, ustedes deberán amonestarlos para que no pequen contra el Señor. Así no vendrá sobre ustedes y sobre sus hermanos la ira del Señor. Si lo hacen así, no pecarán.

And whensoever any controversy shall come to you from your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and ordinances, ye shall warn them, that they be not guilty towards Jehovah, and so wrath come upon you and upon your brethren: this do, and ye shall not be guilty.

11 A quí están el sacerdote Amarías, para guiarlos en todo lo relacionado con el Señor, y Zebadías hijo de Ismael, jefe del reino de Judá, para guiarlos en todo lo relacionado con el reino. Cuentan además con la ayuda de los levitas. Así que mucho ánimo y a trabajar, que el Señor está con quien hace lo bueno.»

And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of Jehovah; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all the king's matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and Jehovah be with the good.
