1 S eis días antes de la pascua, Jesús fue a Betania, donde vivía Lázaro, el que había estado muerto y a quien Jesús había resucitado de los muertos.

Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead.

2 A llí le ofrecieron una cena, y Marta servía, y Lázaro era uno de los que estaban sentados con él a la mesa.

So they made him a supper there: and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of them that sat at meat with him.

3 E ntonces María tomó unos trescientos gramos de perfume de nardo puro, que era muy caro, y con él ungió los pies de Jesús, y con sus cabellos los enjugó. Y la casa se llenó con el olor del perfume.

Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.

4 Y dijo Judas Iscariote hijo de Simón, que era uno de sus discípulos y el que más tarde lo entregaría:

But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, that should betray him, saith,

5 « ¿Por qué no se vendió este perfume por trescientos denarios, y se les dio a los pobres?»

Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred shillings, and given to the poor?

6 P ero no dijo esto porque se preocupara por los pobres, sino porque era un ladrón y, como tenía la bolsa, sustraía de lo que se echaba en ella.

Now this he said, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the bag took away what was put therein.

7 E ntonces Jesús le dijo: «Déjala tranquila, que ha guardado esto para el día de mi sepultura.

Jesus therefore said, Suffer her to keep it against the day of my burying.

8 A los pobres siempre los tendrán entre ustedes, pero a mí no siempre me tendrán.» El complot contra Lázaro

For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.

9 U na gran multitud de los judíos se enteró de que él estaba allí, así que vinieron, no solamente por causa de Jesús, sino también para ver a Lázaro, pues sabían que él lo había resucitado de los muertos.

The common people therefore of the Jews learned that he was there: and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

10 P ero los principales sacerdotes acordaron matar también a Lázaro,

But the chief priests took counsel that they might put Lazarus also to death;

11 p ues por causa de él muchos de los judíos se apartaban y creían en Jesús. La entrada triunfal en Jerusalén

because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

12 A l día siguiente, al oír que Jesús venía a Jerusalén, grandes multitudes que habían venido a la fiesta

On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

13 t omaron ramas de palmera y salieron a recibirlo. Y clamaban: «¡Hosanna! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor, el Rey de Israel!»

took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.

14 Y Jesús halló un asno, y montó sobre él, como está escrito:

And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,

15 « No temas, hija de Sión; Aquí viene tu Rey, Montado sobre un pollino de asna.»

Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

16 A l principio, sus discípulos no comprendieron estas cosas; pero cuando Jesús fue glorificado, entonces se acordaron de que estas cosas estaban escritas acerca de él, y de que así le habían sucedido.

These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.

17 Y la gente que estaba con él daba testimonio de cómo ordenó a Lázaro salir del sepulcro y lo resucitó de los muertos.

The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness.

18 P or eso también la gente había venido a recibirlo, pues sabía que él había hecho esta señal.

For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign.

19 P ero los fariseos dijeron entre sí: «Como pueden ver, así no conseguiremos nada. ¡Todo el mundo se va tras él!» Unos griegos buscan a Jesús

The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing: lo, the world is gone after him.

20 E ntre los que habían ido a la fiesta para adorar había algunos griegos.

Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast:

21 É stos se acercaron a Felipe, que era de Betsaida de Galilea, y entre ruegos le dijeron: «Señor, quisiéramos ver a Jesús.»

these therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.

22 F elipe fue y se lo dijo a Andrés, y Andrés y Felipe se lo dijeron a Jesús.

Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: Andrew cometh, and Philip, and they tell Jesus.

23 J esús les dijo: «Ha llegado la hora de que el Hijo del Hombre sea glorificado.

And Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.

24 D e cierto, de cierto les digo que, si el grano de trigo no cae en la tierra y muere, se queda solo; pero si muere, lleva mucho fruto.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit.

25 E l que ama su vida, la perderá; pero el que aborrece su vida en este mundo, la guardará para vida eterna.

He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

26 S i alguno me sirve, sígame; donde yo esté, allí también estará mi servidor. Si alguno me sirve, mi Padre lo honrará. Jesús anuncia su muerte

If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honor.

27 » Ahora mi alma está turbada. ¿Y acaso diré: “Padre, sálvame de esta hora”? ¡Si para esto he venido!

Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.

28 P adre, ¡glorifica tu nombre!» En ese momento vino una voz del cielo: «Lo he glorificado, y volveré a glorificarlo.»

Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

29 L a multitud que estaba allí, y que había oído la voz, decía que había sido un trueno. Pero otros decían: «Le ha hablado un ángel.»

The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him.

30 J esús les dijo: «Esta voz no ha venido por mí, sino por ustedes.

Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.

31 A hora es el juicio de este mundo; ahora será expulsado el príncipe de este mundo.

Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

32 Y cuando yo sea levantado de la tierra, atraeré a todos a mí mismo.»

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.

33 C on esto Jesús daba a entender de qué muerte iba a morir.

But this he said, signifying by what manner of death he should die.

34 P ero la gente le respondió: «Nosotros hemos oído que, según la ley, el Cristo permanece para siempre. Entonces, ¿cómo puedes decir que es necesario que el Hijo del Hombre sea levantado? ¿Quién es este Hijo del Hombre?»

The multitude therefore answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

35 J esús les dijo: «Por un poco más de tiempo la luz está entre ustedes; mientras tengan luz, caminen, para que no los sorprendan las tinieblas; porque el que anda en tinieblas no sabe por dónde va.

Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

36 M ientras tengan la luz, crean en la luz, para que sean hijos de la luz.» Incredulidad de los judíos Dicho esto, Jesús se fue y se ocultó de ellos.

While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from them.

37 Y a pesar de que había hecho tantas señales ante ellos, no creían en él;

But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they believed not on him:

38 p ara que se cumpliera la palabra del profeta Isaías, que dijo: «Señor, ¿quién ha creído a nuestro anuncio? ¿Y a quién se ha revelado el brazo del Señor?»

that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

39 P or esto no podían creer, pues Isaías también dijo:

For this cause they could not believe, for that Isaiah said again,

40 « Cegó los ojos de ellos, y endureció su corazón; Para que no vean con los ojos, y entiendan con el corazón, Y se conviertan, y yo los sane.»

He hath blinded their eyes, and he hardened their heart; Lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, And should turn, And I should heal them.

41 I saías dijo esto cuando vio su gloria y habló acerca de él.

These things said Isaiah, because he saw his glory; and he spake of him.

42 C on todo eso, muchos creyeron en él, incluso algunos de los gobernantes; pero por causa de los fariseos no lo confesaban, para no ser expulsados de la sinagoga.

Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

43 Y es que amaban más la gloria de los hombres que la gloria de Dios. Las palabras de Jesús juzgarán a los hombres

for they loved the glory that is of men more than the glory that is of God.

44 J esús clamó y dijo: «El que cree en mí, no cree en mí sino en el que me envió;

And Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.

45 y el que me ve, ve al que me envió.

And he that beholdeth me beholdeth him that sent me.

46 Y o soy la luz, y he venido al mundo para que todo aquel que cree en mí no permanezca en tinieblas.

I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me may not abide in the darkness.

47 A l que oye mis palabras, y no las obedece, no lo juzgo; porque no he venido a juzgar al mundo, sino a salvar al mundo.

And if any man hear my sayings, and keep them not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

48 E l que me rechaza, y no recibe mis palabras, tiene quien lo juzgue, y es la palabra que he hablado; ella lo juzgará en el día final.

He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my sayings, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I spake, the same shall judge him in the last day.

49 P orque yo no he hablado por mi propia cuenta; el Padre, que me envió, me dio también el mandamiento de lo que debo decir y de lo que debo hablar.

For I spake not from myself; but the Father that sent me, he hath given me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

50 Y sé que su mandamiento es vida eterna. Por lo tanto, lo que yo hablo, lo hablo como el Padre me lo ha dicho.»

And I know that his commandment is life eternal: the things therefore which I speak, even as the Father hath said unto me, so I speak.
