1 L a palabra del Señor vino a Joel, hijo de Petuel:

The word of Jehovah that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.

2 « Ustedes los ancianos, ¡oigan esto! Y ustedes, los habitantes de toda la tierra, ¡escuchen! ¿Acaso sucedió algo así en sus días, o en los días de sus padres?

Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?

3 E sto lo contarán ustedes a sus hijos, y sus hijos a sus propios hijos, y ellos a la generación siguiente.

Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.

4 L o que la oruga dejó se lo comió el saltón, y lo que dejó el saltón se lo comió el revoltón, y lo que el revoltón dejó se lo comió la langosta.

That which the palmer-worm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the canker-worm eaten; and that which the canker-worm hath left hath the caterpillar eaten.

5 » Despierten, borrachos, y lloren; y todos ustedes, los que beben vino, giman por causa del mosto, porque se les va a quitar de la boca.

Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and wail, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.

6 U n pueblo fuerte y muy numeroso viene contra mi tierra. Sus dientes y sus muelas parecen de león.

For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number; his teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the jaw-teeth of a lioness.

7 H a asolado mi viña, y descortezado mi higuera; la ha dejado completamente pelada y por el suelo; ¡sus ramas se han quedado desnudas!

He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig-tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.

8 » Llora tú, como la joven que guarda luto por el esposo de su juventud.

Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

9 E n la casa del Señor ya no hay ofrendas ni libaciones; los sacerdotes que sirven al Señor están de luto.

The meal-offering and the drink-offering are cut off from the house of Jehovah; the priests, Jehovah's ministers, mourn.

10 L os campos están asolados y de luto, porque el trigo ha sido destruido. Mosto no hay, y el aceite se ha perdido.

The field is laid waste, the land mourneth; for the grain is destroyed, the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.

11 » Ustedes, labradores y viñateros, preocúpense por el trigo y la cebada, porque se han perdido las cosechas.

Be confounded, O ye husbandmen, wail, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; for the harvest of the field is perished.

12 L as vides están secas; perecieron las higueras y los granados, las palmeras y los manzanos; ¡secos están todos los árboles del campo! Por eso no hay para nadie motivo de alegría.

The vine is withered, and the fig-tree languisheth; the pomegranate-tree, the palm-tree also, and the apple-tree, even all the trees of the field are withered: for joy is withered away from the sons of men.

13 » Ustedes los sacerdotes, ministros del altar, ¡vístanse de luto y lloren! Vengan y duerman con el cilicio puesto, ministros de mi Dios, porque en la casa de su Dios ya no hay ofrendas ni libaciones.

Gird yourselves with sackcloth, and lament, ye priests; wail, ye ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meal-offering and the drink-offering are withholden from the house of your God.

14 P roclamen ayuno, convoquen a una asamblea; congreguen en la casa del Señor su Dios a los ancianos y a todos los habitantes de la tierra, e imploren su ayuda.

Sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the old men and all the inhabitants of the land unto the house of Jehovah your God, and cry unto Jehovah.

15 » ¡Ay del día del Señor! Cercano está, y viene como un día de destrucción de parte del Todopoderoso.

Alas for the day! for the day of Jehovah is at hand, and as destruction from the Almighty shall it come.

16 A nte nuestros propios ojos nos ha sido arrebatado el alimento, la alegría y el placer de estar en la casa de nuestro Dios.

Is not the food cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?

17 » El trigo se ha secado, o bien se pudre bajo los terrones; los graneros han sido derribados y los alfolíes han sido destruidos.

The seeds rot under their clods; the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the grain is withered.

18 G imen las bestias, los hatos de bueyes y los rebaños de ovejas, porque ya no hay pastos.»

How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

19 C lamo a ti, Señor, porque el fuego ha consumido los pastos del desierto; las llamas redujeron a cenizas a todos los árboles del campo.

O Jehovah, to thee do I cry; for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.

20 T ambién las bestias del campo braman pidiendo tu ayuda, porque se han secado los arroyos, y el fuego ha consumido las praderas del desierto.

Yea, the beasts of the field pant unto thee; for the water brooks are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
