1 ¶ Man that is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.

El hombre, nacido de mujer, corto de días y lleno de turbaciones,

2 H e comes forth like an open flower and is cut down; he flees as a shadow and does not remain.

como una flor brota y se marchita, y como una sombra huye y no permanece.

3 A nd dost thou open thine eyes upon such a one and bring me into judgment with thee?

Sobre él ciertamente abres tus ojos, y lo traes a juicio contigo.

4 W ho can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one.

¿Quién hará algo limpio de lo inmundo ? ¡Nadie!

5 S eeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass.

Ya que sus días están determinados, el número de sus meses te es conocido, y has fijado sus límites para que no pueda pasar los.

6 I f thou should leave him, he will cease to exist; until then, he shall desire, as a hireling, his day.

Aparta de él tu mirada para que descanse, hasta que cumpla su día como jornalero.

7 ¶ For there is yet hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again and that its tender branch will not cease.

Porque hay esperanza para un árbol cuando es cortado, que volverá a retoñar, y sus renuevos no le faltarán.

8 T hough its root waxes old in the earth and its trunk is dead in the ground,

Aunque envejezcan sus raíces en la tierra, y muera su tronco en el polvo,

9 a t the scent of water it will bud and bring forth boughs like a new plant.

al olor del agua reverdecerá y como una planta joven echará renuevos.

10 B ut when man shall die and be cut off, and the man shall perish, where shall he be?

Pero el hombre muere y yace inerte. El hombre expira, ¿y dónde está?

11 T he waters from the sea went, and the river ran out, it dried up.

Como las aguas se evaporan del mar, como un río se agota y se seca,

12 S o man lies down and does not rise; until there is no heaven, they shall not awake nor be raised out of their sleep.

así el hombre yace y no se levanta; hasta que los cielos ya no existan no se despertará ni se levantará de su sueño.

13 O that thou would hide me in Sheol, that thou would keep me covered until thy wrath is past, that thou would appoint me a set time and remember me!

¡Oh, si me escondieras en el Seol, si me ocultaras hasta que tu ira se pasara, si me pusieras un plazo y de mí te acordaras!

14 I f a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time I will wait until my transformation comes.

Si el hombre muere, ¿volverá a vivir? Todos los días de mi batallar esperaré hasta que llegue mi relevo.

15 T hen thou shalt call, and I will answer thee; thou wilt have a desire towards the work of thine hands.

Tú llamarás, y yo te responderé; anhelarás la obra de tus manos.

16 ¶ For now thou dost number my steps; thou dost not open up my sin.

Porque ahora cuentas mis pasos, no observas mi pecado.

17 M y transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou dost sew up my iniquity.

Sellada está en un saco mi transgresión, y tienes cubierta mi iniquidad.

18 A nd certainly the mountain that falls is undone, and the rocks are removed out of their place.

Pero el monte que cae se desmorona, y se cambia la roca de su lugar;

19 T he impetuous waters break the stones and wash away the dust of the earth; in like manner thou dost cause man to lose hope.

el agua desgasta las piedras, sus torrentes se llevan el polvo de la tierra; así destruyes tú la esperanza del hombre.

20 T hou shalt be stronger than him for ever, and he passes; thou dost change his countenance and send him away.

Prevaleces para siempre contra él, y se va; cambias su apariencia, y lo despides.

21 H is sons shall be honoured and he shall not know of it; or they shall be afflicted, but he shall not perceive of them.

Alcanzan honra sus hijos, pero él no lo sabe; o son humillados, pero él no lo percibe.

22 B ut while his flesh is upon him, he shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.

Mas su cuerpo le da dolores, y se lamenta sólo por sí mismo.
