1 ¶ A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger.

La suave respuesta aparta el furor, mas la palabra hiriente hace subir la ira.

2 ¶ The tongue of the wise shall adorn wisdom, but the mouth of fools shall speak foolishness.

La lengua del sabio hace grato el conocimiento, pero la boca de los necios habla necedades.

3 ¶ The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding those who are evil and those who are good.

En todo lugar están los ojos del Señor, observando a los malos y a los buenos.

4 ¶ The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

La lengua apacible es árbol de vida, mas la perversidad en ella quebranta el espíritu.

5 ¶ The fool despises his father’s chastening, but he that regards reproof shall become prudent.

El necio rechaza la disciplina de su padre, mas el que acepta la reprensión es prudente.

6 ¶ In the house of the righteous is much provision, but in the fruit of the wicked is trouble.

En la casa del justo hay mucha riqueza, pero en las ganancias del impío hay turbación.

7 ¶ The lips of the wise disperse wisdom, but the heart of the foolish does not so.

Los labios de los sabios esparcen conocimiento, pero no así el corazón de los necios.

8 ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

El sacrificio de los impíos es abominación al Señor, mas la oración de los rectos es su deleite.

9 ¶ The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD, but he loves him that follows after righteousness.

Abominación al Señor es el camino del impío, y El ama al que sigue la justicia.

10 ¶ Chastening is grievous unto him that forsakes the way, but he that hates reproof shall die.

La disciplina severa es para el que abandona el camino; el que aborrece la reprensión morirá.

11 ¶ Sheol and hell are before the LORD; how much more then the hearts of men?

El Seol y el Abadón están delante del Señor, ¡cuánto más los corazones de los hombres!

12 ¶ The scorner does not love the one that reproves him, neither will he go unto the wise.

El escarnecedor no ama al que lo reprende, ni se allegará a los sabios.

13 ¶ A joyful heart makes a beautiful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is abated.

El corazón gozoso alegra el rostro, pero en la tristeza del corazón se quebranta el espíritu.

14 ¶ The heart of him that has understanding seeks wisdom, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

El corazón inteligente busca conocimiento, mas la boca de los necios se alimenta de necedades.

15 ¶ All the days of the poor are difficult, but he that is of a good heart has a continual feast.

Todos los días del afligido son malos, pero el de corazón alegre tiene un banquete continuo.

16 ¶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

Mejor es lo poco con el temor del Señor, que gran tesoro y turbación con él.

17 B etter is a dinner of vegetables where love is than a fatted calf and hatred therewith.

Mejor es un plato de legumbres donde hay amor, que buey engordado y odio con él.

18 ¶ A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he that is slow to anger appeases strife.

El hombre irascible suscita riñas, pero el lento para la ira apacigua contiendas.

19 ¶ The way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns, but the path of the righteous is made plain.

El camino del perezoso es como un seto de espinos, mas la senda de los rectos es una calzada.

20 ¶ The wise son makes a glad father, but the foolish man despises his mother.

El hijo sabio alegra al padre, pero el hombre necio desprecia a su madre.

21 ¶ Folly is joy to him that is destitute of understanding, but the man who is intelligent walks uprightly.

La necedad es alegría para el insensato, pero el hombre inteligente anda rectamente.

22 ¶ Without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

Sin consulta, los planes se frustran, pero con muchos consejeros, triunfan.

23 ¶ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

El hombre se alegra con la respuesta adecuada, y una palabra a tiempo, ¡cuán agradable es!

24 ¶ The way of life is uphill to the wise, that he may separate himself from Sheol below.

La senda de vida para el sabio es hacia arriba, para que se aparte del Seol que está abajo.

25 ¶ The LORD will destroy the house of the proud, but he will establish the inheritance of the widow.

El Señor derribará la casa de los soberbios, pero afianzará los linderos de la viuda.

26 ¶ The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD, but the speech of the pure is pure.

Abominación al Señor son los planes perversos, mas las palabras agradables son puras.

27 ¶ He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house, but he that hates gifts shall live.

Perturba su casa el que tiene ganancias ilícitas, pero el que aborrece el soborno, vivirá.

28 ¶ The heart of the righteous studies to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.

El corazón del justo medita cómo responder, mas la boca de los impíos habla lo malo.

29 ¶ The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

El Señor está lejos de los impíos, pero escucha la oración de los justos.

30 ¶ The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and a good report makes the bones fat.

La luz de los ojos alegra el corazón, y las buenas noticias fortalecen los huesos.

31 ¶ The ear that hears the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.

El oído que escucha las reprensiones de la vida, morará entre los sabios.

32 ¶ He that refuses chastening despises his own soul, but he that hears reproof has an understanding heart.

El que tiene en poco la disciplina se desprecia a sí mismo, mas el que escucha las reprensiones adquiere entendimiento.

33 ¶ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and before honour is humility.

El temor del Señor es instrucción de sabiduría, y antes de la gloria está la humildad.
