1 ¶ Then David came to Nob to Ahimelech, the priest, and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no one with thee?

Entonces llegó David a Nob, al sacerdote Ahimelec; y Ahimelec vino tembloroso al encuentro de David, y le dijo: ¿Por qué estás solo y no hay nadie contigo?

2 A nd David said unto Ahimelech, the priest, The king has commanded me a business and has said unto me, Let no one know anything of this business about which I send thee and what I have commanded thee, and I have appointed my servants to a certain place.

Y David respondió al sacerdote Ahimelec: El rey me ha encomendado cierto asunto y me ha dicho: “Que no sepa nadie acerca del asunto por el cual te envío y que te he encomendado; y yo he citado a los jóvenes a cierto lugar.”

3 N ow, therefore, what is under thy hand? Give me five loaves of bread in my hand or what there is present.

Ahora pues, ¿qué tienes a mano ? Dame cinco panes, o lo que tengas.

4 A nd the priest answered David and said, There is no common bread under my hand; there is only sacred bread, which I will give thee if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

Respondió el sacerdote a David, y dijo: No hay pan común a mano, pero hay pan consagrado; siempre que los jóvenes se hayan abstenido de mujer.

5 A nd David answered the priest and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us since yesterday and the day before yesterday since I came out, and the vessels of the young men were holy although the way is profane; how much more that today it shall be sanctified with the vessels.

Y David respondió al sacerdote, y le dijo: Ciertamente las mujeres nos han sido vedadas; como anteriormente, cuando he salido en campaña, los cuerpos de los jóvenes se han mantenido puros, aunque haya sido un viaje profano; ¿cuánto más puros estarán sus cuerpos hoy ?

6 S o the priest gave him the sacred bread, for there was no bread there but the showbread that had been taken from before the LORD to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

Entonces el sacerdote le dio pan consagrado; porque allí no había otro pan, sino el pan de la Presencia que había sido quitado de delante del Señor para colocar pan caliente en su lugar al ser retirado.

7 N ow a certain man of the slaves of Saul was there that day, fulfilling a vow before the LORD, and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the principal of the pastors of Saul.

Y uno de los siervos de Saúl estaba allí aquel día, detenido delante del Señor; se llamaba Doeg edomita, jefe de los pastores de Saúl.

8 A nd David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thy hand a spear or a sword? For I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me because the king’s business required haste.

Y David dijo a Ahimelec: ¿No tienes aquí a mano una lanza o una espada? Pues no traje ni espada ni armas conmigo, porque el asunto del rey era urgente.

9 A nd the priest replied, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou didst overcome in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a veil behind the ephod; if thou wilt take that, take it, for there is none other except that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it to me.

Entonces el sacerdote dijo: He aquí, la espada de Goliat el filisteo, a quien mataste en el valle de Ela, está envuelta en un paño detrás del efod; si quieres llevártela, tóma la, porque aquí no hay otra sino ésa. Y David dijo: Como ésa no hay otra; dámela.

10 ¶ And David arose and fled that day from the presence of Saul and went to Achish, the king of Gath.

David se levantó y huyó aquel día de Saúl, y fue a donde estaba Aquis, rey de Gat.

11 A nd the slaves of Achish said unto him, Is this not David, the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands?

Pero los siervos de Aquis le dijeron: ¿No es éste David, el rey de la tierra? ¿No cantaban de él en las danzas, diciendo: “Saúl mató a sus miles, y David a sus diez miles ”?

12 A nd David laid up these words in his heart and was sore afraid of Achish, the king of Gath.

David tomó en serio estas palabras y temió grandemente a Aquis, rey de Gat.

13 A nd he changed his behaviour before them and feigned himself a fool in their hands and scrabbled on the doors of the gate and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

Y se fingió demente ante sus ojos y actuaba como loco en medio de ellos; escribía garabatos en las puertas de la entrada y dejaba que su saliva le corriera por la barba.

14 T hen Achish said unto his slaves, Behold, ye see the man is mad; why then have ye brought him to me?

Entonces Aquis dijo a sus siervos: He aquí, veis al hombre portándose como un loco. ¿Por qué me lo traéis?

15 H ave I need of mad men that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?

¿Acaso me hacen falta locos, que me habéis traído a éste para que haga de loco en mi presencia? ¿Va a entrar éste en mi casa?
