1 T he proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

Los proverbios de Salomón. El hijo sabio alegra al padre, Pero el hijo necio es tristeza de su madre.

2 T reasures of wickedness profit nothing; But righteousness delivereth from death.

Los tesoros de maldad no serán de provecho; Mas la justicia libra de muerte.

3 J ehovah will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish; But he thrusteth away the desire of the wicked.

Jehová no dejará padecer hambre al justo; Mas la iniquidad lanzará a los impíos.

4 H e becometh poor that worketh with a slack hand; But the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

La mano negligente empobrece; Mas la mano de los diligentes enriquece.

5 H e that gathereth in summer is a wise son; But he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

El que recoge en el verano es hombre entendido; El que duerme en el tiempo de la siega es hijo que averg: uenza.

6 B lessings are upon the head of the righteous; But violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

Hay bendiciones sobre la cabeza del justo; Pero violencia cubrirá la boca de los impíos.

7 T he memory of the righteous is blessed; But the name of the wicked shall rot.

La memoria del justo será bendita; Mas el nombre de los impíos se pudrirá.

8 T he wise in heart will receive commandments; But a prating fool shall fall.

El sabio de corazón recibirá los mandamientos; Mas el necio de labios caerá.

9 H e that walketh uprightly walketh surely; But he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

El que camina en integridad anda confiado; Mas el que pervierte sus caminos será quebrantado.

10 H e that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow; But a prating fool shall fall.

El que guiña el ojo acarrea tristeza; Y el necio de labios será castigado.

11 T he mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life; But violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

Manantial de vida es la boca del justo; Pero violencia cubrirá la boca de los impíos.

12 H atred stirreth up strifes; But love covereth all transgressions.

El odio despierta rencillas; Pero el amor cubrirá todas las faltas.

13 I n the lips of him that hath discernment wisdom is found; But a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

En los labios del prudente se halla sabiduría; Mas la vara es para las espaldas del falto de cordura.

14 W ise men lay up knowledge; But the mouth of the foolish is a present destruction.

Los sabios guardan la sabiduría; Mas la boca del necio es calamidad cercana.

15 T he rich man's wealth is his strong city: The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

Las riquezas del rico son su ciudad fortificada; Y el desmayo de los pobres es su pobreza.

16 T he labor of the righteous tendeth to life; The increase of the wicked, to sin.

La obra del justo es para vida; Mas el fruto del impío es para pecado.

17 H e is in the way of life that heedeth correction; But he that forsaketh reproof erreth.

Camino a la vida es guardar la instrucción; Pero quien desecha la reprensión, yerra.

18 H e that hideth hatred is of lying lips; And he that uttereth a slander is a fool.

El que encubre el odio es de labios mentirosos; Y el que propaga calumnia es necio.

19 I n the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression; But he that refraineth his lips doeth wisely.

En las muchas palabras no falta pecado; Mas el que refrena sus labios es prudente.

20 T he tongue of the righteous is as choice silver: The heart of the wicked is little worth.

Plata escogida es la lengua del justo; Mas el corazón de los impíos es como nada.

21 T he lips of the righteous feed many; But the foolish die for lack of understanding.

Los labios del justo apacientan a muchos, Mas los necios mueren por falta de entendimiento.

22 T he blessing of Jehovah, it maketh rich; And he addeth no sorrow therewith.

La bendición de Jehová es la que enriquece, Y no añade tristeza con ella.

23 I t is as sport to a fool to do wickedness; And so is wisdom to a man of understanding.

El hacer maldad es como una diversión al insensato; Mas la sabiduría recrea al hombre de entendimiento.

24 T he fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him; And the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

Lo que el impío teme, eso le vendrá; Pero a los justos les será dado lo que desean.

25 W hen the whirlwind passeth, the wicked is no more; But the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

Como pasa el torbellino, así el malo no permanece; Mas el justo permanece para siempre.

26 A s vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, So is the sluggard to them that send him.

Como el vinagre a los dientes, y como el humo a los ojos, Así es el perezoso a los que lo envían.

27 T he fear of Jehovah prolongeth days; But the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

El temor de Jehová aumentará los días; Mas los años de los impíos serán acortados.

28 T he hope of the righteous shall be gladness; But the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

La esperanza de los justos es alegría; Mas la esperanza de los impíos perecerá.

29 T he way of Jehovah is a stronghold to the upright; But it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

El camino de Jehová es fortaleza al perfecto; Pero es destrucción a los que hacen maldad.

30 T he righteous shall never be removed; But the wicked shall not dwell in the land.

El justo no será removido jamás; Pero los impíos no habitarán la tierra.

31 T he mouth of the righteous bringeth forth wisdom; But the perverse tongue shall be cut off.

La boca del justo producirá sabiduría; Mas la lengua perversa será cortada.

32 T he lips of the righteous know what is acceptable; But the mouth of the wicked speaketh perverseness.

Los labios del justo saben hablar lo que agrada; Mas la boca de los impíos habla perversidades.
