1 A braham era viejo, entrado en años; y el Señor había bendecido a Abraham en todo.

And Abraham old, he hath entered into days, and Jehovah hath blessed Abraham in all;

2 Y Abraham dijo a su siervo, el más viejo de su casa, que era mayordomo de todo lo que poseía: Te ruego que pongas tu mano debajo de mi muslo,

and Abraham saith unto his servant, the eldest of his house, who is ruling over all that he hath, `Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh,

3 y te haré jurar por el Señor, Dios de los cielos y Dios de la tierra, que no tomarás mujer para mi hijo de las hijas de los cananeos, entre los cuales yo habito;

and I cause thee to swear by Jehovah, God of the heavens, and God of the earth, that thou dost not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in the midst of whom I am dwelling;

4 s ino que irás a mi tierra y a mis parientes, y tomarás mujer para mi hijo Isaac.

but unto my land and unto my kindred dost thou go, and hast taken a wife for my son, for Isaac.'

5 Y el siervo le dijo: Tal vez la mujer no quiera seguirme a esta tierra. ¿Debo volver y llevar a tu hijo a la tierra de donde viniste?

And the servant saith unto him, `It may be the woman is not willing to come after me unto this land; do I at all cause thy son to turn back unto the land from whence thou camest out?'

6 Y Abraham le dijo: Guárdate de llevar allá a mi hijo.

And Abraham saith unto him, `Take heed to thyself, lest thou cause my son to turn back thither;

7 E l Señor, Dios de los cielos, que me tomó de la casa de mi padre y de la tierra donde nací, y que me habló y me juró, diciendo: “A tu descendencia daré esta tierra ”, El mandará su ángel delante de ti, y tomarás de allí mujer para mi hijo.

Jehovah, God of the heavens, who hath taken me from the house of my father, and from the land of my birth, and who hath spoken to me, and who hath sworn to me, saying, To thy seed I give this land, He doth send His messenger before thee, and thou hast taken a wife for my son from thence;

8 S i la mujer no quiere seguirte, quedarás libre de este mi juramento; sólo que no lleves allá a mi hijo.

and if the woman be not willing to come after thee, then thou hast been acquitted from this mine oath: only my son thou dost not cause to turn back thither.'

9 Y el siervo puso la mano debajo del muslo de Abraham su señor, y le juró sobre este asunto. Rebeca es escogida

And the servant putteth his hand under the thigh of Abraham his lord, and sweareth to him concerning this matter.

10 E ntonces el siervo tomó diez camellos de entre los camellos de su señor, y partió con toda clase de bienes de su señor en su mano; y se levantó y fue a Mesopotamia, a la ciudad de Nacor.

And the servant taketh ten camels of the camels of his lord and goeth, also of all the goods of his lord in his hand, and he riseth, and goeth unto Aram-Naharaim, unto the city of Nahor;

11 E hizo arrodillar a los camellos fuera de la ciudad junto al pozo de agua, al atardecer, a la hora en que las mujeres salen por agua,

and he causeth the camels to kneel at the outside of the city, at the well of water, at even-time, at the time of the coming out of the women who draw water.

12 y dijo: Oh Señor, Dios de mi señor Abraham, te ruego que me des éxito hoy, y que tengas misericordia de mi señor Abraham.

And he saith, `Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, cause to meet, I pray Thee, before me this day -- (and do kindness with my lord Abraham;

13 H e aquí, estoy de pie junto a la fuente de agua, y las hijas de los hombres de la ciudad salen para sacar agua.

lo, I am standing by the fountain of water, and daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water;

14 Q ue sea la joven a quien yo diga: “Por favor, baja tu cántaro para que yo beba”, y que responda: “Bebe, y también daré de beber a tus camellos”, la que tú has designado para tu siervo Isaac; y por ello sabré que has mostrado misericordia a mi señor.

and it hath been, the young person unto whom I say, Incline, I pray thee, thy pitcher, and I drink, and she hath said, Drink, and I water also thy camels) -- her Thou hast decided for Thy servant, for Isaac; and by it I know that Thou hast done kindness with my lord.'

15 Y sucedió que antes de haber terminado de hablar, he aquí que Rebeca, hija de Betuel, hijo de Milca, mujer de Nacor, hermano de Abraham, salió con el cántaro sobre su hombro.

And it cometh to pass, before he hath finished speaking, that lo, Rebekah (who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, wife of Nahor, brother of Abraham) is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder,

16 L a joven era muy hermosa, virgen, ningún hombre la había conocido; bajó ella a la fuente, llenó su cántaro y subió.

and the young person of very good appearance, a virgin, and a man hath not known her; and she goeth down to the fountain, and filleth her pitcher, and cometh up.

17 E ntonces el siervo corrió a su encuentro, y dijo: Te ruego que me des a beber un poco de agua de tu cántaro.

And the servant runneth to meet her, and saith, `Let me swallow, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher;'

18 Y ella dijo: Bebe, señor mío. Y enseguida bajó el cántaro a su mano, y le dio de beber.

and she saith, `Drink, my lord;' and she hasteth, and letteth down her pitcher upon her hand, and giveth him drink.

19 C uando había terminado de darle de beber, dijo: Sacaré también para tus camellos hasta que hayan terminado de beber.

And she finisheth giving him drink, and saith, `Also for thy camels I draw till they have finished drinking;'

20 Y rápidamente vació el cántaro en el abrevadero, y corrió otra vez a la fuente para sacar agua, y sacó para todos sus camellos.

and she hasteth, and emptieth her pitcher into the drinking-trough, and runneth again unto the well to draw, and draweth for all his camels.

21 E ntretanto el hombre la observaba en silencio, para saber si el Señor había dado éxito o no a su viaje.

And the man, wondering at her, remaineth silent, to know whether Jehovah hath made his way prosperous or not.

22 Y aconteció que cuando los camellos habían terminado de beber, el hombre tomó un anillo de oro que pesaba medio siclo, y dos brazaletes que pesaban diez siclos de oro,

And it cometh to pass when the camels have finished drinking, that the man taketh a golden ring (whose weight a bekah), and two bracelets for her hands (whose weight ten of gold),

23 y dijo: ¿De quién eres hija? Dime, te ruego, ¿hay en la casa de tu padre lugar para hospedarnos?

and saith, `Whose daughter thou? declare to me, I pray thee, is the house of thy father a place for us to lodge in?'

24 E lla le respondió: Soy hija de Betuel, el hijo que Milca dio a luz a Nacor.

And she saith unto him, `I daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah, whom she hath borne to Nahor.'

25 Y le dijo además: Tenemos suficiente paja y forraje, y lugar para hospedarse.

She saith also unto him, `Both straw and provender abundant with us, also a place to lodge in.'

26 E ntonces el hombre se postró y adoró al Señor,

And the man boweth, and doth obeisance to Jehovah,

27 y dijo: Bendito sea el Señor, Dios de mi señor Abraham, que no ha dejado de mostrar su misericordia y su fidelidad hacia mi señor; y el Señor me ha guiado en el camino a la casa de los hermanos de mi señor. Rebeca confirma su elección

and saith, `Blessed Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, who hath not left off His kindness and His truth with my lord; -- I in the way, Jehovah hath led me to the house of my lord's brethren.'

28 L a joven corrió y contó estas cosas a los de la casa de su madre.

And the young person runneth, and declareth to the house of her mother according to these words.

29 Y Rebeca tenía un hermano que se llamaba Labán; y Labán salió corriendo hacia el hombre, afuera, a la fuente.

And Rebekah hath a brother, and his name Laban, and Laban runneth unto the man who without, unto the fountain;

30 Y sucedió que cuando él vio el anillo y los brazaletes en las manos de su hermana, y cuando oyó las palabras de su hermana Rebeca, diciendo: Esto es lo que el hombre me dijo, Labán fue al hombre; y he aquí que estaba con los camellos junto a la fuente.

yea, it cometh to pass, when he seeth the ring, and the bracelets on the hands of his sister, and when he heareth the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, `Thus hath the man spoken unto me,' that he cometh in unto the man, and lo, he is standing by the camels by the fountain.

31 Y le dijo: Entra, bendito del Señor. ¿Por qué estás fuera? Yo he preparado la casa y un lugar para los camellos.

And he saith, `Come in, O blessed one of Jehovah, why standest thou without, and I -- I have prepared the house and place for the camels!'

32 E ntonces el hombre entró en la casa, y Labán descargó los camellos y les dio paja y forraje, y agua para lavar los pies de él y los pies de los hombres que estaban con él.

And he bringeth in the man into the house, and looseth the camels, and giveth straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the feet of the men who with him:

33 P ero cuando la comida fue puesta delante de él para que comiera, dijo: No comeré hasta que haya dicho el propósito de mi viaje. Y Labán le dijo: Habla.

and setteth before him to eat; but he saith, `I do not eat till I have spoken my word;' and he saith, `Speak.'

34 E ntonces dijo: Soy siervo de Abraham.

And he saith, `I Abraham's servant;

35 Y el Señor ha bendecido en gran manera a mi señor, que se ha enriquecido, y le ha dado ovejas y vacas, plata y oro, siervos y siervas, camellos y asnos.

and Jehovah hath blessed my lord exceedingly, and he is great; and He giveth to him flock, and herd, and silver, and gold, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and camels, and asses;

36 Y Sara, la mujer de mi señor, le dio a luz un hijo a mi señor en su vejez; y mi señor le ha dado a él todo lo que posee.

and Sarah, my lord's wife, beareth a son to my lord, after she hath been aged, and he giveth to him all that he hath.

37 M i señor me hizo jurar, diciendo: “No tomarás mujer para mi hijo de entre las hijas de los cananeos, en cuya tierra habito;

`And my lord causeth me to swear, saying, Thou dost not take a wife to my son from the daughters of the Canaanite, in whose land I am dwelling.

38 s ino que irás a la casa de mi padre y a mis parientes, y tomarás mujer para mi hijo.”

If not -- unto the house of my father thou dost go, and unto my family, and thou hast taken a wife for my son.

39 Y dije a mi señor: “Tal vez la mujer no quiera seguirme.”

`And I say unto my lord, It may be the woman doth not come after me;

40 Y él me respondió: “El Señor, delante de quien he andado, enviará su ángel contigo para dar éxito a tu viaje, y tomarás mujer para mi hijo de entre mis parientes y de la casa de mi padre;

and he saith unto me, Jehovah, before whom I have walked habitually, doth send His messenger with thee, and hath prospered thy way, and thou hast taken a wife for my son from my family, and from the house of my father;

41 e ntonces cuando llegues a mis parientes quedarás libre de mi juramento; y si ellos no te la dan, también quedarás libre de mi juramento.”

then art thou acquitted from my oath, when thou comest unto my family, and if they give not to thee; then thou hast been acquitted from my oath.

42 Y llegué hoy a la fuente, y dije: “Oh Señor, Dios de mi señor Abraham, si ahora quieres dar éxito a mi viaje en el cual ando,

`And I come to-day unto the fountain, and I say, Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, if Thou art, I pray Thee, making prosperous my way in which I am going --

43 h e aquí, estoy parado junto a la fuente de agua; que la doncella que salga a sacar agua, y a quien yo diga: ‘Te ruego que me des de beber un poco de agua de tu cántaro ’,

(lo, I am standing by the fountain of water), then the virgin who is coming out to draw, and I have said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher,

44 y ella me diga, ‘Bebe, y también sacaré para tus camellos’, que sea ella la mujer que el Señor ha designado para el hijo de mi señor.”

and she hath said unto me, Both drink thou, and also for thy camels I draw -- she is the woman whom Jehovah hath decided for my lord's son.

45 A ntes de que yo hubiera terminado de hablar en mi corazón, he aquí, Rebeca salió con su cántaro al hombro, y bajó a la fuente y sacó agua, y yo le dije: “Te ruego que me des de beber.”

`Before I finish speaking unto my heart, then lo, Rebekah is coming out, and her pitcher on her shoulder, and she goeth down to the fountain, and draweth; and I say unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee,

46 Y ella enseguida bajó el cántaro de su hombro, y dijo: “Bebe, y daré de beber también a tus camellos ”; de modo que bebí, y ella dio de beber también a los camellos.

and she hasteth and letteth down her pitcher from off her and saith, Drink, and thy camels also I water; and I drink, and the camels also she hath watered.

47 E ntonces le pregunté: “¿De quién eres hija?” Y ella contestó: “Hija de Betuel, hijo de Nacor, que le dio a luz Milca ”; y puse el anillo en su nariz, y los brazaletes en sus manos.

`And I ask her, and say, Whose daughter thou? and she saith, Daughter of Bethuel, son of Nahor, whom Milcah hath borne to him, and I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands,

48 Y me postré y adoré al Señor, y bendije al Señor, Dios de mi señor Abraham, que me había guiado por camino verdadero para tomar la hija del pariente de mi señor para su hijo.

and I bow, and do obeisance before Jehovah, and I bless Jehovah, God of my lord Abraham, who hath led me in the true way to receive the daughter of my lord's brother for his son.

49 A hora pues, si habéis de mostrar bondad y sinceridad con mi señor, decídmelo; y si no, decídmelo también, para que vaya yo a la mano derecha o a la izquierda.

`And now, if ye are dealing kindly and truly with my lord, declare to me; and if not, declare to me; and I turn unto the right or unto the left.'

50 L abán y Betuel respondieron, y dijeron: Del Señor ha salido esto; no podemos decirte que está mal ni que está bien.

And Laban answereth -- Bethuel also -- and they say, `The thing hath gone out from Jehovah; we are not able to speak unto thee bad or good;

51 H e aquí, Rebeca está delante de ti, tóma la y vete, y que sea ella la mujer del hijo de tu señor, como el Señor ha dicho.

lo, Rebekah before thee, take and go, and she is a wife to thy lord's son, as Jehovah hath spoken.'

52 Y sucedió que cuando el siervo de Abraham escuchó sus palabras, se postró en tierra delante del Señor.

And it cometh to pass, when the servant of Abraham hath heard their words, that he boweth himself towards the earth before Jehovah;

53 Y el siervo sacó objetos de plata, objetos de oro y vestidos, y se los dio a Rebeca; dio también cosas preciosas a su hermano y a su madre.

and the servant taketh out vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and garments, and giveth to Rebekah; precious things also he hath given to her brother and to her mother.

54 D espués él y los hombres que estaban con él comieron y bebieron y pasaron la noche. Cuando se levantaron por la mañana, él dijo: Enviadme a mi señor.

And they eat and drink, he and the men who with him, and lodge all night; and they rise in the morning, and he saith, `Send me to my lord;'

55 P ero el hermano y la madre de ella dijeron: Permite que se quede la joven con nosotros unos días, quizá diez; después se irá.

and her brother saith -- her mother also -- `Let the young person abide with us a week or ten days, afterwards doth she go.'

56 Y él les dijo: No me detengáis, puesto que el Señor ha dado éxito a mi viaje; enviadme para que vaya a mi señor.

And he saith unto them, `Do not delay me, seeing Jehovah hath prospered my way; send me away, and I go to my lord;'

57 Y ellos dijeron: Llamaremos a la joven y le preguntaremos cuáles son sus deseos.

and they say, `Let us call for the young person, and ask at her mouth;'

58 E ntonces llamaron a Rebeca y le dijeron: ¿Te irás con este hombre? Y ella dijo: Me iré.

and they call for Rebekah, and say unto her, `Dost thou go with this man?' and she saith, `I go.'

59 Y enviaron a su hermana Rebeca y a su nodriza con el siervo de Abraham y sus hombres.

And they send away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham's servant, and his men;

60 Y bendijeron a Rebeca y le dijeron: Que tú, hermana nuestra, te conviertas en millares de miríadas, y posean tus descendientes la puerta de los que los aborrecen. Isaac y Rebeca se encuentran

and they bless Rebekah, and say to her, `Thou our sister; become thou thousands of myriads, and thy seed doth possess the gate of those hating it.'

61 Y se levantó Rebeca con sus doncellas y, montadas en los camellos, siguieron al hombre. El siervo, pues, tomó a Rebeca y partió.

And Rebekah and her young women arise, and ride on the camels, and go after the man; and the servant taketh Rebekah and goeth.

62 I saac había venido a Beer-lajai-roi, pues habitaba en la tierra del Neguev.

And Isaac hath come in from the entrance of the Well of the Living One, my Beholder; and he is dwelling in the land of the south,

63 Y por la tarde Isaac salió a meditar al campo; y alzó los ojos y miró, y he aquí, venían unos camellos.

and Isaac goeth out to meditate in the field, at the turning of the evening, and he lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, camels are coming.

64 R ebeca alzó los ojos, y cuando vio a Isaac, bajó del camello,

And Rebekah lifteth up her eyes, and seeth Isaac, and alighteth from off the camel;

65 y dijo al siervo: ¿Quién es ese hombre que camina por el campo a nuestro encuentro? Y el siervo dijo: Es mi señor. Y ella tomó el velo y se cubrió.

and she saith unto the servant, `Who this man who is walking in the field to meet us?' and the servant saith, `It my lord;' and she taketh the veil, and covereth herself.

66 Y el siervo contó a Isaac todo lo que había hecho.

And the servant recounteth to Isaac all the things that he hath done,

67 E ntonces Isaac la trajo a la tienda de su madre Sara, y tomó a Rebeca y ella fue su mujer, y la amó. Así se consoló Isaac después de la muerte de su madre.

and Isaac bringeth her in unto the tent of Sarah his mother, and he taketh Rebekah, and she becometh his wife, and he loveth her, and Isaac is comforted after his mother.
