1 C uando Mardoqueo supo todo lo que se había hecho, rasgó sus vestidos, se vistió de cilicio y ceniza, y salió por la ciudad, lamentándose con grande y amargo clamor.

And Mordecai hath known all that hath been done, and Mordecai rendeth his garments, and putteth on sackcloth and ashes, and goeth forth into the midst of the city and crieth -- a cry loud and bitter,

2 Y llegó hasta la puerta del rey, porque nadie podía entrar por la puerta del rey vestido de cilicio.

and he cometh in unto the front of the gate of the king, but none is to come in unto the gate of the king with a sackcloth-garment.

3 Y en cada una de las provincias y en todo lugar donde llegaba la orden del rey y su decreto, había entre los judíos gran duelo y ayuno, llanto y lamento; y muchos se acostaban sobre cilicio y ceniza.

And in every province and province, the place where the word of the king, even his law, is coming, a great mourning have the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and lamenting: sackcloth and ashes are spread for many.

4 V inieron las doncellas de Ester y sus eunucos y se lo comunicaron, y la reina se angustió en gran manera. Y envió ropa para que Mardoqueo se vistiera y se quitara el cilicio de encima, pero él no la aceptó.

And young women of Esther come in and her eunuchs, and declare to her, and the queen is exceedingly pained, and sendeth garments to clothe Mordecai, and to turn aside his sackcloth from off him, and he hath not received.

5 E ntonces Ester llamó a Hatac, uno de los eunucos que el rey había puesto a su servicio, y le ordenó ir a Mardoqueo para saber qué era aquello y por qué.

And Esther calleth to Hatach, of the eunuchs of the king, whom he hath stationed before her, and giveth him a charge for Mordecai, to know what this, and wherefore this.

6 Y salió Hatac a donde estaba Mardoqueo en la plaza de la ciudad, frente a la puerta del rey.

And Hatach goeth out unto Mordecai, unto a broad place of the city, that before the gate of the king,

7 Y Mardoqueo le informó de todo lo que le había acontecido, y la cantidad exacta de dinero que Amán había prometido pagar a los tesoros del rey por la destrucción de los judíos.

and Mordecai declareth to him all that hath met him, and the explanation of the money that Haman said to weigh to the treasuries of the king for the Jews, to destroy them,

8 L e dio también una copia del texto del decreto que había sido promulgado en Susa para la destrucción de los judíos, para que se la mostrara a Ester y le informara, y le mandara que ella fuera al rey para implorar su favor y para interceder ante él por su pueblo.

and the copy of the writing of the law that had been given in Shushan to destroy them he hath given to him, to shew Esther, and to declare to her, and to lay a charge on her to go in unto the king, to make supplication to him, and to seek from before him, for her people.

9 R egresó Hatac y contó a Ester las palabras de Mardoqueo.

And Hatach cometh in and declareth to Esther the words of Mordecai,

10 E ntonces Ester habló a Hatac y le ordenó que respondiera a Mardoqueo:

and Esther speaketh to Hatach, and chargeth him for Mordecai:

11 T odos los siervos del rey y el pueblo de las provincias del rey saben que para cualquier hombre o mujer que vaya al rey en el atrio interior, sin ser llamado, él tiene una sola ley, que se le dé muerte, a menos que el rey le extienda el cetro de oro para que viva. Y yo no he sido llamada para ir al rey por estos treinta días.

`All servants of the king, and people of the provinces of the king, do know that any man and woman, who cometh in unto the king, unto the inner court, who is not called -- one law his to put to death, apart from him to whom the king holdeth out the golden sceptre, then he hath lived; and I -- I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.'

12 Y contaron a Mardoqueo las palabras de Ester.

And they declare to Mordecai the words of Esther,

13 E ntonces Mardoqueo les dijo que respondieran a Ester: No pienses que estando en el palacio del rey sólo tú escaparás entre todos los judíos.

and Mordecai speaketh to send back unto Esther: `Do not think in thy soul to be delivered the house of the king, more than all the Jews,

14 P orque si permaneces callada en este tiempo, alivio y liberación vendrán de otro lugar para los judíos, pero tú y la casa de tu padre pereceréis. ¿Y quién sabe si para una ocasión como ésta tú habrás llegado a ser reina?

but if thou keep entirely silent at this time, respite and deliverance remaineth to the Jews from another place, and thou and the house of thy fathers are destroyed; and who knoweth whether for a time like this thou hast come to the kingdom?'

15 Y Ester les dijo que respondieran a Mardoqueo:

And Esther speaketh to send back unto Mordecai:

16 V e, reúne a todos los judíos que se encuentran en Susa y ayunad por mí; no comáis ni bebáis por tres días, ni de noche ni de día. También yo y mis doncellas ayunaremos. Y así iré al rey, lo cual no es conforme a la ley; y si perezco, perezco.

`Go, gather all the Jews who are found in Shushan, and fast for me, and do not eat nor drink three days, by night and by day; also I and my young women do fast likewise, and so I go in unto the king, that not according to law, and when I have perished -- I have perished.'

17 Y Mardoqueo se fue e hizo conforme a todo lo que Ester le había ordenado.

And Mordecai passeth on, and doth according to all that Esther hath charged upon him.
