1 Y he aquí, un hombre de Dios fue de Judá a Betel por palabra del Señor, cuando Jeroboam estaba junto al altar para quemar incienso.

And lo, a man of God hath come from Judah, by the word of Jehovah, unto Beth-El, and Jeroboam is standing by the altar -- to make perfume;

2 Y clamó contra el altar por palabra del Señor, y dijo: Oh altar, altar, así dice el Señor: “He aquí, a la casa de David le nacerá un hijo, que se llamará Josías; y él sacrificará sobre ti a los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que queman incienso sobre ti, y sobre ti serán quemados huesos humanos.”

and he calleth against the altar, by the word of Jehovah, and saith, `Altar! altar! thus said Jehovah, Lo, a son is born to the house of David -- Josiah his name -- and he hath sacrificed on thee the priests of the high places who are making perfume on thee, and bones of man are burnt on thee.'

3 A quel mismo día dio una señal, diciendo: Esta es la señal de que el Señor ha hablado: “He aquí, el altar se romperá y las cenizas que están sobre él se derramarán.”

And he hath given on that day a sign, saying, `This the sign that Jehovah hath spoken, Lo, the altar is rent, and the ashes poured forth that on it.'

4 Y aconteció que cuando el rey oyó la palabra que el hombre de Dios había clamado contra el altar de Betel, extendió su mano desde el altar, diciendo: ¡Prendedlo! Pero la mano que extendió contra él se secó, de modo que no podía volverla hacia sí.

And it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the word of the man of God that he calleth against the altar in Beth-El, that Jeroboam putteth forth his hand from off the altar, saying, `Catch him;' and his hand is dried up that he hath put forth against him, and he is not able to bring it back unto him,

5 Y el altar se rompió y las cenizas se derramaron del altar, conforme a la señal que el hombre de Dios había dado por palabra del Señor.

and the altar is rent, and the ashes poured forth from the altar, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of Jehovah.

6 E l rey respondió, y dijo al hombre de Dios: Te ruego que supliques al Señor tu Dios, y ores por mí, para que mi mano me sea restaurada. El hombre de Dios suplicó al Señor y la mano del rey le fue restaurada, y quedó como antes.

And the king answereth and saith unto the man of God, `Appease, I pray thee, the face of Jehovah thy God, and pray for me, and my hand doth come back unto me;' and the man of God appeaseth the face of Jehovah, and the hand of the king cometh back unto him, and it is as at the beginning.

7 E ntonces el rey dijo al hombre de Dios: Ven conmigo a casa y refréscate, y te daré una recompensa.

And the king speaketh unto the man of God, `Come in with me to the house, and refresh thyself, and I give to thee a gift.'

8 P ero el hombre de Dios dijo al rey: Aunque me dieras la mitad de tu casa no iría contigo, y no comería pan ni bebería agua en este lugar.

And the man of God saith unto the king, `If thou dost give to me the half of thine house, I do not go in with thee, nor do I eat bread, nor do I drink water, in this place;

9 P orque así se me ordenó por palabra del Señor, que me dijo: “No comerás pan, ni beberás agua, ni volverás por el camino que fuiste.”

for so He commanded me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water, nor turn back in the way that thou hast come.'

10 Y se fue por otro camino, no regresó por el camino por donde había ido a Betel. El profeta y el hombre de Dios

And he goeth on in another way, and hath not turned back in the way in which he came in unto Beth-El.

11 M oraba entonces en Betel un anciano profeta; y sus hijos fueron y le contaron todo lo que el hombre de Dios había hecho aquel día en Betel; las palabras que él había hablado al rey, las contaron también a su padre.

And a certain aged prophet is dwelling in Beth-El, and his son cometh and recounteth to him all the deed that the man of God hath done to-day in Beth-El, the words that he hath spoken unto the king, -- yea, they recount them to their father.

12 Y su padre les dijo: ¿Por dónde se fue? Y sus hijos le mostraron el camino por donde se había ido el hombre de Dios que había venido de Judá.

And their father saith unto them, `Where this -- the way he hath gone?' and his sons see the way that the man of God hath gone who came from Judah.

13 E ntonces dijo a sus hijos: Aparejadme el asno. Le aparejaron el asno, se montó sobre él,

And he saith unto his sons, `Saddle for me the ass,' and they saddle for him the ass, and he rideth on it,

14 y fue tras el hombre de Dios; lo halló sentado debajo de una encina, y le dijo: ¿Eres tú el hombre de Dios que vino de Judá? Y él respondió: Yo soy.

and goeth after the man of God, and findeth him sitting under the oak, and saith unto him, `Art thou the man of God who hast come from Judah?' and he saith, `I.'

15 E ntonces le dijo: Ven conmigo a casa y come pan.

And he saith unto him, `Come with me to the house, and eat bread.'

16 Y él respondió: No puedo volver contigo ni ir contigo; tampoco comeré pan ni beberé agua contigo en este lugar.

And he saith, `I am not able to turn back with thee, and to go in with thee, nor do I eat bread or drink with thee water in this place,

17 P orque me vino un mandato por palabra del Señor: “No comerás pan ni beberás agua allí, ni volverás por el camino que fuiste.”

for a word unto me by the word of Jehovah, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink there water, thou dost not turn back to go in the way in which thou camest.'

18 Y el otro le respondió: Yo también soy profeta como tú, y un ángel me habló por palabra del Señor, diciendo: “Tráelo contigo a tu casa, para que coma pan y beba agua.” Pero le estaba mintiendo.

And he saith to him, `I also a prophet like thee, and a messenger spake unto me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Bring him back with thee unto thy house, and he doth eat bread and drink water;' -- he hath lied to him.

19 E ntonces se volvió con él, comió pan en su casa y bebió agua.

And he turneth back with him, and eateth bread in his house, and drinketh water.

20 Y sucedió que cuando ellos estaban a la mesa, la palabra del Señor vino al profeta que le había hecho volver;

And it cometh to pass -- they are sitting at the table -- and a word of Jehovah is unto the prophet who brought him back,

21 y él clamó al hombre de Dios que vino de Judá, diciendo: Así dice el Señor: “Porque has desobedecido el mandato del Señor, y no has guardado el mandamiento que el Señor tu Dios te ha ordenado,

and he calleth unto the man of God who came from Judah, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, Because that thou hast provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and hast not kept the command that Jehovah thy God charged thee,

22 s ino que has vuelto y has comido pan y bebido agua en el lugar del cual El te dijo: ‘No comerás pan ni beberás agua’, tu cadáver no entrará en el sepulcro de tus padres.”

and turnest back and dost eat bread and drink water in the place of which He said unto thee, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water -- thy carcase cometh not in unto the burying-place of thy fathers.'

23 Y sucedió que después de haber comido pan y de haber bebido agua, aparejó el asno para él, para el profeta que había hecho volver.

And it cometh to pass, after his eating bread, and after his drinking, that he saddleth for him the ass, for the prophet whom he had brought back,

24 Y cuando éste había partido, un león lo encontró en el camino y lo mató, y su cadáver quedó tirado en el camino y el asno estaba junto a él; también el león estaba junto al cadáver.

and he goeth, and a lion findeth him in the way, and putteth him to death, and his carcase is cast in the way, and the ass is standing near it, and the lion is standing near the carcase.

25 Y he aquí, pasaron unos hombres y vieron el cadáver tirado en el camino y el león que estaba junto al cadáver; y fueron y lo dijeron en la ciudad donde vivía el anciano profeta.

And lo, men are passing by, and see the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing near the carcase, and they come and speak in the city in which the old prophet is dwelling.

26 Y cuando el profeta que le había hecho volver del camino lo oyó, dijo: Es el hombre de Dios, que desobedeció el mandato del Señor; por tanto el Señor lo ha entregado al león que lo ha desgarrado y matado, conforme a la palabra que el Señor le había hablado.

And the prophet who brought him back out of the way heareth and saith, `It the man of God who provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth him to the lion, and it destroyeth him, and putteth him to death, according to the word of Jehovah that he spake to him.'

27 E ntonces habló a sus hijos, diciendo: Aparejadme el asno. Y se lo aparejaron.

And he speaketh unto his sons saying, `Saddle for me the ass,' and they saddle.

28 F ue y halló el cadáver tirado en el camino, y el asno y el león estaban junto al cadáver; el león no había comido el cadáver ni desgarrado el asno.

And he goeth and findeth his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion are standing near the carcase -- the lion hath not eaten the carcase nor destroyed the ass.

29 E l profeta levantó el cadáver del hombre de Dios, lo puso sobre el asno y lo trajo. Vino a la ciudad del anciano profeta para hacer duelo por él y enterrarlo.

And the prophet taketh up the carcase of the man of God, and placeth it on the ass, and bringeth it back, and the old prophet cometh in unto the city to mourn and to bury him,

30 P uso el cadáver en su propio sepulcro, e hicieron duelo por él, diciendo: ¡Ay, hermano mío!

and he placeth his carcase in his own grave, and they mourn for him, `Oh, my brother!'

31 Y sucedió que después de haberlo enterrado, habló a sus hijos, diciendo: Cuando yo muera, enterradme en el sepulcro donde está enterrado el hombre de Dios; poned mis huesos junto a sus huesos.

And it cometh to pass, after his burying him, that he speaketh unto his sons, saying, `At my death -- ye have buried me in the burying-place in which the man of God is buried; near his bones place my bones;

32 P orque ciertamente sucederá lo que él clamó por palabra del Señor contra el altar en Betel y contra todas las casas de los lugares altos que están en las ciudades de Samaria.

for the word certainly cometh to pass that he called by the word of Jehovah concerning the altar which Beth-El, and concerning all the houses of the high places that in cities of Samaria.'

33 D espués de este hecho Jeroboam no se volvió de su mal camino, sino que volvió a hacer sacerdotes para los lugares altos de entre el pueblo; al que lo deseaba lo investía para que fuera sacerdote de los lugares altos.

After this thing Jeroboam hath not turned from his evil way, and turneth back, and maketh of the extremities of the people priests of high places; he who is desirous he consecrateth his hand, and he is of the priests of the high places.

34 Y esto fue motivo de pecado para la casa de Jeroboam, por lo que fue borrada y destruida de sobre la faz de la tierra.

And in this thing is the sin of the house of Jeroboam, even to cut off, and to destroy from off the face of the ground.
