1 D e nuevo la ira del Señor se encendió contra Israel, e incitó a David contra ellos, diciendo: Ve, haz un censo de Israel y de Judá.

And the anger of Jehovah addeth to burn against Israel, and moveth David about them, saying, `Go, number Israel and Judah.'

2 Y el rey dijo a Joab, comandante del ejército, que estaba con él: Recorre todas las tribus de Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, y haz un censo del pueblo para que yo sepa el número de la gente.

And the king saith unto Joab, head of the host that with him, `Go to and fro, I pray thee, through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and inspect ye the people -- and I have known the number of the people.'

3 P ero Joab respondió al rey: Que el Señor tu Dios añada al pueblo cien veces más de lo que son, mientras todavía vean los ojos de mi señor el rey; pero, ¿por qué se complace mi señor el rey en esto?

And Joab saith unto the king, `Yea, Jehovah thy God doth add unto the people, as they are, a hundred times, and the eyes of my lord the king are seeing; and my lord the king, why is he desirous of this thing?'

4 S in embargo, la palabra del rey prevaleció contra Joab y contra los comandantes del ejército. Salieron, pues, Joab y los comandantes del ejército de la presencia del rey para hacer el censo del pueblo de Israel.

And the word of the king is severe towards Joab, and against the heads of the force, and Joab goeth out, and the heads of the force, before the king to inspect the people, even Israel;

5 P asaron el Jordán y acamparon en Aroer, a la derecha de la ciudad que está en medio del valle de Gad, y en dirección a Jazer.

and they pass over the Jordan, and encamp in Aroer, on the right of the city that in the midst of the brook of Gad, and unto Jazer,

6 L uego fueron a Galaad y a la tierra de Tahtim-hodsi; fueron a Dan-jaán y doblaron para Sidón;

and they come in to Gilead, and unto the land of Tahtim-Hodshi, and they come in to Dan-Jaan, and round about unto Zidon,

7 f ueron a la fortaleza de Tiro y a todas las ciudades de los heveos y de los cananeos, saliendo finalmente hacia el sur de Judá, a Beerseba.

and they come in to the fortress of Tyre, and all the cities of the Hivite, and of the Canaanite, and go out unto the south of Judah, to Beer-Sheba.

8 H abiendo recorrido todo el país, volvieron a Jerusalén al cabo de nueve meses y veinte días.

And they go to and fro through all the land, and come in at the end of nine months and twenty days to Jerusalem,

9 J oab dio al rey la cifra del censo del pueblo: había en Israel ochocientos mil hombres valientes que sacaban espada, y los de Judá eran quinientos mil hombres.

and Joab giveth the account of the inspection of the people unto the king, and Israel is eight hundred thousand men of valour, drawing sword, and the men of Judah five hundred thousand men.

10 D espués que David contó el pueblo le pesó en su corazón. Dijo, pues, David al Señor: He pecado en gran manera por lo que he hecho. Pero ahora, oh Señor, te ruego que quites la iniquidad de tu siervo, porque he obrado muy neciamente.

And the heart of David smiteth him, after that he hath numbered the people, and David saith unto Jehovah, `I have sinned greatly in that which I have done, and now, O Jehovah, cause to pass away, I pray Thee, the iniquity of Thy servant, for I have acted very foolishly.'

11 C uando David se levantó por la mañana, la palabra del Señor vino al profeta Gad, vidente de David, diciendo:

And David riseth in the morning, and the word of Jehovah hath been unto Gad the prophet, seer of David, saying,

12 V e y di a David: “Así dice el Señor: ‘Te ofrezco tres cosas; escoge para ti una de ellas, para que yo la haga.’”

`Go, and thou hast spoken unto David, Thus said Jehovah: Three -- I am lifting up for thee, choose thee one of them, and I do to thee.'

13 A sí que Gad fue a David y se lo hizo saber, diciéndo le: ¿ Quieres que te vengan siete años de hambre en tu tierra, o que huyas por tres meses delante de tus enemigos mientras te persiguen, o que haya tres días de pestilencia en tu tierra? Considera ahora, y mira qué respuesta he de dar al que me envió.

And Gad cometh in unto David, and declareth to him, and saith to him, `Do seven years of famine come in to thee in thy land? or three months art thou fleeing before thine adversary -- and he pursuing thee? or are three days' pestilence in thy land? now, know and see what word I take back to Him sending me.'

14 R espondió David a Gad: Estoy muy angustiado. Te ruego que nos dejes caer en manos del Señor porque grandes son sus misericordias, pero no caiga yo en manos de hombre.

And David saith unto Gad, `I have great distress, let us fall, I pray thee, into the hand of Jehovah, for many His mercies, and into the hand of man let me not fall.'

15 Y el Señor envió pestilencia sobre Israel desde la mañana hasta el tiempo señalado; y desde Dan hasta Beerseba murieron setenta mil hombres del pueblo.

And Jehovah giveth a pestilence on Israel from the morning even unto the time appointed, and there die of the people, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, seventy thousand men,

16 C uando el ángel extendió su mano hacia Jerusalén para destruirla, el Señor se arrepintió del mal, y dijo al ángel que destruía al pueblo: ¡Basta! ¡Detén ahora tu mano! Y el ángel del Señor estaba junto a la era de Arauna jebuseo.

and the messenger putteth forth his hand to Jerusalem to destroy it, and Jehovah repenteth concerning the evil, and saith to the messenger who is destroying among the people, `Enough, now, cease thy hand;' and the messenger of Jehovah was near the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

17 E ntonces David habló al Señor, cuando vio al ángel que hería al pueblo, y dijo: He aquí, yo soy el que ha pecado, y yo soy el que ha hecho mal; pero estas ovejas, ¿qué han hecho ? Te ruego que tu mano caiga sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre.

And David speaketh unto Jehovah, when he seeth the messenger who is smiting among the people, and saith, `Lo, I have sinned, yea, I have done perversely; and these -- the flock -- what have they done? Let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father.'

18 Y Gad vino a David aquel día y le dijo: Sube, edifica un altar al Señor en la era de Arauna jebuseo.

And Gad cometh in unto David on that day, and saith to him, `Go up, raise to Jehovah an altar in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite;'

19 D avid subió conforme a la palabra de Gad, tal como el Señor había ordenado.

and David goeth up, according to the word of Gad, as Jehovah commanded.

20 Y Arauna miró y vio al rey y a sus siervos que venían hacia él; y saliendo Arauna, se postró rostro en tierra delante del rey.

And Araunah looketh, and seeth the king and his servants passing over unto him, and Araunah goeth out and boweth himself to the king -- his face to the earth.

21 E ntonces Arauna dijo: ¿Por qué ha venido mi señor el rey a su siervo? Y David respondió: A comprarte la era para edificar un altar al Señor a fin de detener la plaga del pueblo.

And Araunah saith, `Wherefore hath my lord the king come unto his servant?' and David saith, `To buy from thee the threshing-floor, to build an altar to Jehovah, and the plague is restrained from the people.'

22 Y Arauna dijo a David: Tome y ofrezca mi señor el rey lo que parezca bien a sus ojos. Mira, los bueyes para el holocausto, y los trillos y los yugos de los bueyes para la leña.

And Araunah saith unto David, `Let my lord the king take and cause to ascend that which is good in his eyes; see, the oxen for a burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments, and the instruments of the oxen, for wood;'

23 T odo, oh rey, Arauna lo da al rey. Y Arauna dijo al rey: Que el Señor tu Dios te sea propicio.

the whole hath Araunah given, a king to a king; and Araunah saith unto the king, `Jehovah thy God doth accept thee.'

24 P ero el rey dijo a Arauna: No, sino que ciertamente por precio te lo compraré, pues no ofreceré al Señor mi Dios holocausto que no me cueste nada. Y David compró la era y los bueyes por cincuenta siclos de plata.

And the king saith unto Araunah, `Nay, for I do surely buy from thee for a price, and I do not cause to ascend to Jehovah my God burnt-offerings for nought;' and David buyeth the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver,

25 Y allí edificó David un altar al Señor, y ofreció holocaustos y ofrendas de paz. El Señor escuchó la súplica por la tierra y la plaga fue detenida en Israel.

and David buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and Jehovah is entreated for the land, and the plague is restrained from Israel.
