1 Y se encontraba allí un hombre indigno que se llamaba Seba, hijo de Bicri, benjamita; y éste tocó la trompeta y dijo: No tenemos parte en David, ni tenemos heredad en el hijo de Isaí; ¡Israel, cada uno a sus tiendas!

And there hath been called there a man of worthlessness, and his name Sheba, son of Bichri, a Benjamite, and he bloweth with a trumpet, and saith, `We have no portion in David, and we have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; each to his tents, O Israel.'

2 Y todos los hombres de Israel dejaron de seguir a David, y siguieron a Seba, hijo de Bicri; pero los hombres de Judá permanecieron fieles a su rey, desde el Jordán hasta Jerusalén.

And every man of Israel goeth up from after David, after Sheba son of Bichri, and the men of Judah have cleaved to their king, from the Jordan even unto Jerusalem.

3 C uando David llegó a su casa en Jerusalén, el rey tomó las diez mujeres, las concubinas que había dejado para guardar la casa, las puso bajo custodia y les dio alimento, pero no se llegó a ellas; y estuvieron encerradas hasta el día de su muerte, viviendo como viudas.

And David cometh in unto his house at Jerusalem, and the king taketh the ten women-concubines -- whom he had left to keep the house, and putteth them in a house of ward, and sustaineth them, and unto them he hath not gone in, and they are shut up unto the day of their death, in widowhood living.

4 Y el rey dijo a Amasa: Convócame a los hombres de Judá dentro de tres días, y tú también preséntate aquí.

And the king saith unto Amasa, `Call for me the men of Judah three days, and thou, stand here,'

5 A masa fue para convocar a los hombres de Judá, pero tardó más que el tiempo que él le había señalado.

and Amasa goeth to call Judah, and tarrieth beyond the appointed time that he had appointed him;

6 Y David dijo a Abisai: Ahora Seba, hijo de Bicri, nos hará más daño que Absalón; toma a los siervos de tu señor y persíguelo, no sea que halle para sí ciudades fortificadas y se nos escape.

and David saith unto Abishai, `Now doth Sheba son of Bichri do evil to us more than Absalom; thou, take the servants of thy lord, and pursue after him, lest he have found for himself fenced cities, and delivered himself our eye.'

7 E ntonces los hombres de Joab salieron tras él, junto con los cereteos, los peleteos y todos los hombres valientes; salieron de Jerusalén para perseguir a Seba, hijo de Bicri.

And the men of Joab go out after him, and the Cherethite, and the Pelethite, and all the mighty men, and they go out from Jerusalem to pursue after Sheba son of Bichri;

8 E staban junto a la piedra grande que está en Gabaón, cuando Amasa vino a su encuentro. Y Joab estaba vestido con su ropa militar, y sobre ella llevaba un cinturón atado a la cintura con espada en la vaina y mientras avanzaba, se le cayó la espada.

they near the great stone that in Gibeon, and Amasa hath gone before them, and Joab girded; his long robe he hath put on him, and upon it a girdle -- a sword fastened upon his loins in its sheath; and he hath gone out, and it falleth.

9 Y Joab dijo a Amasa: ¿Te va bien, hermano mío? Y Joab tomó a Amasa por la barba con su mano derecha para besarlo.

And Joab saith to Amasa, `Art thou peace, my brother?' and the right hand of Joab layeth hold on the beard of Amasa to give a kiss to him;

10 P ero Amasa no se protegió de la espada que estaba en la mano de Joab y éste le dio en el vientre con ella y derramó sus entrañas por tierra, sin herir lo de nuevo, y murió. Entonces Joab y Abisai su hermano siguieron tras Seba, hijo de Bicri.

and Amasa hath not been watchful of the sword that in the hand of Joab, and he smiteth him with it unto the fifth, and sheddeth out his bowels to the earth, and he hath not repeated to him, and he dieth; and Joab and Abishai his brother have pursued after Sheba son of Bichri.

11 Y junto a él estaba uno de los jóvenes de Joab, y dijo: Quien esté por Joab y quien esté por David, que siga a Joab.

And a man hath stood by him, of the young men of Joab, and saith, `He who hath delight in Joab, and he who for David -- after Joab!'

12 Y Amasa yacía revolcándose en su sangre en medio del camino. Al ver el hombre que todo el pueblo se detenía, trasladó a Amasa del camino al campo, y echó sobre él una vestidura porque vio que todo el que pasaba junto a él se detenía.

And Amasa is rolling himself in blood, in the midst of the highway, and the man seeth that all the people have stood still, and he bringeth round Amasa out of the highway to the field, and casteth over him a garment, when he hath seen that every one who hath come by him -- hath stood still.

13 C uando Amasa fue apartado del camino, todos los hombres pasaron tras Joab para perseguir a Seba, hijo de Bicri.

When he hath been removed out of the highway, every man hath passed on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba son of Bichri.

14 Y pasó Seba por todas las tribus de Israel hasta Abel-bet-maaca y todo Barim, que se reunieron y fueron también tras él.

And he passeth over through all the tribes of Israel to Abel, and to Beth-Maachah, and to all the Berites, and they are assembled, and go in also after him,

15 Y llegaron los de Joab y lo sitiaron en Abel-bet-maaca, y levantaron un terraplén contra la ciudad, y éste estaba junto al baluarte; y todo el pueblo que iba con Joab se puso a socavar el muro para derribarlo.

and they go in and lay siege against him, in Abel of Beth-Maachah, and cast up a mount against the city, and it standeth in a trench, and all the people who are with Joab are destroying, to cause the wall to fall.

16 E ntonces una mujer sabia gritó desde la ciudad: Oíd, oíd; ruego que digáis a Joab: “Ven acá para que hable contigo.”

And a wise woman calleth out of the city, `Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, and I speak unto thee.'

17 Y él se acercó a ella, y la mujer dijo: ¿Eres tú Joab? Y él respondió: Yo soy. Entonces ella le dijo: Escucha las palabras de tu sierva. Y él respondió: Escucho.

And he cometh near unto her, and the woman saith, `Art thou Joab?' and he saith, `I.' And she saith to him, `Hear the words of thy handmaid;' and he saith, `I am hearing.'

18 H abló ella, diciendo: Antes acostumbraban decir: “Ellos ciertamente pedirán consejo en Abel”, y así terminaban la querella.

and she speaketh, saying, `They spake often in former times, saying, Let them diligently ask at Abel, and so they finished.

19 Y o soy de las pacíficas y fieles en Israel. Tú procuras destruir una ciudad madre en Israel. ¿Por qué has de destruir la heredad del Señor ?

I of the peaceable -- faithful ones of Israel; thou art seeking to destroy a city, and a mother in Israel; why dost thou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?

20 Y Joab respondió, y dijo: Lejos, lejos esté de mí que yo destruya o extermine.

And Joab answereth and saith, `Far be it -- far be it from me; I do not swallow up nor destroy.

21 E ste no es el caso, sino que un hombre de la región montañosa de Efraín, llamado Seba, hijo de Bicri, ha levantado su mano contra el rey David. Solamente entregadlo, y yo me iré de la ciudad. Y la mujer dijo a Joab: He aquí, su cabeza te será arrojada por encima del muro.

The matter not so; for a man of the hill-country of Ephraim -- Sheba son of Bichri his name -- hath lifted up his hand against the king, against David; give ye up him by himself, and I go away from the city.' And the woman saith unto Joab, `Lo, his head is cast unto thee over the wall.'

22 E ntonces la mujer, con su sabiduría, fue a hablar a todo el pueblo; y ellos le cortaron la cabeza a Seba, hijo de Bicri, y se la arrojaron a Joab. El, pues, tocó la trompeta y se retiraron de la ciudad, cada uno a su tienda. Joab también regresó al rey en Jerusalén.

And the woman cometh unto all the people in her wisdom, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bichri, and cast unto Joab, and he bloweth with a trumpet, and they are scattered from the city, each to his tents, and Joab hath turned back to Jerusalem unto the king.

23 J oab era jefe sobre todo el ejército de Israel, y Benaía, hijo de Joiada, era jefe sobre los cereteos y peleteos;

And Joab over all the host of Israel, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada over the Cherethite, and over the Pelethite,

24 A doram estaba a cargo de los trabajos forzados, y Josafat, hijo de Ahilud, era cronista;

and Adoram over the tribute, and Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud the remembrancer,

25 S eva era escriba, y Sadoc y Abiatar eran sacerdotes;

and Sheva scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar priests,

26 I ra el jaireo era también un sacerdote de David.

and also, Ira the Jairite hath been minister to David.
