1 A sí me dijo el Señor: Ve y cómprate un cinturón de lino y póntelo en la cintura, pero no lo metas en agua.

Thus said Jehovah unto me, `Go, and thou hast got for thee a girdle of linen, and hast placed it on thy loins, and into water thou dost not cause it to enter:'

2 C ompré, pues, el cinturón conforme a la palabra del Señor, y me lo puse en la cintura.

and I get the girdle, according to the word of Jehovah, and I place on my loins.

3 E ntonces vino a mí la palabra del Señor por segunda vez, diciendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me a second time, saying,

4 T oma el cinturón que has comprado, que llevas a la cintura, y levántate, vete al Eufrates y escóndelo allá en una hendidura de la peña.

`Take the girdle that thou hast got, that on thy loins, and rise, go to Phrat, and hide it there in a hole of the rock;

5 F ui, pues, y lo escondí junto al Eufrates como el Señor me había mandado.

and I go and hide it by Phrat, as Jehovah commanded me.

6 Y sucedió que después de muchos días el Señor me dijo: Levántate, vete al Eufrates y toma de allí el cinturón que te mandé que escondieras allá.

And it cometh to pass, at the end of many days, that Jehovah saith unto me, `Rise, go to Phrat, and take thence the girdle, that I commanded thee to hide there;'

7 F ui, pues, al Eufrates y cavé, tomé el cinturón del lugar donde lo había escondido, y he aquí, el cinturón estaba podrido; no servía para nada.

and I go to Phrat, and dig, and take the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and lo, the girdle hath been marred, it is not profitable for anything.

8 E ntonces vino a mí la palabra del Señor, diciendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying, `Thus said Jehovah:

9 A sí dice el Señor: “De la misma manera haré que se pudra la soberbia de Judá y la gran soberbia de Jerusalén.

Thus do I mar the excellency of Judah, And the great excellency of Jerusalem.

10 “ Este pueblo malvado, que rehúsa escuchar mis palabras, que anda en la terquedad de su corazón y se ha ido tras otros dioses a servirles y a postrarse ante ellos, ha de ser como este cinturón que no sirve para nada.

This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, Who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, And go after other gods to serve them, And to bow themselves to them, Yea it is -- as this girdle, that is not profitable for anything.

11 “ Porque como el cinturón se adhiere a la cintura del hombre, así hice adherirse a mí a toda la casa de Israel y a toda la casa de Judá” —declara el Señor — “a fin de que fueran para mí por pueblo, por renombre, por alabanza y por gloria, pero no escucharon.” Los cántaros estrellados

For, as the girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, So I caused to cleave unto Me The whole house of Israel, And the whole house of Judah, an affirmation of Jehovah, To be to Me for a people, and for a name, And for praise, and for beauty, And they have not hearkened.

12 T ambién les dirás esta palabra: “Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: ‘Todo cántaro se llenará de vino.’” Y cuando ellos te digan: “¿Acaso no sabemos bien que todo cántaro ha de llenarse de vino?”,

And thou hast said unto them this word, Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, `Every bottle is full of wine,' And they have said unto thee: `Do we not certainly know that every bottle is full of wine?'

13 e ntonces les dirás: “Así dice el Señor: ‘He aquí, voy a llenar de embriaguez a todos los habitantes de esta tierra: a los reyes sucesores de David que se sientan sobre su trono, a los sacerdotes, a los profetas y a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén;

And thou hast said unto them, `Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am filling all the inhabitants of this land, And the kings who sit for David on his throne, And the priests, and the prophets, And all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, drunkenness,

14 y los estrellaré unos contra otros, los padres con los hijos por igual ’ —declara el Señor. ‘No tendré piedad, ni lástima, ni compasión, para dejar de destruirlos.’”

And have dashed them one against another, And the fathers and the sons together, An affirmation of Jehovah, I do not pity, nor spare, nor have I mercy, So as not to destroy them.

15 E scuchad y prestad atención, no seáis altaneros, porque el Señor ha hablado.

Hear, and give ear -- be not haughty, For Jehovah hath spoken.

16 D ad gloria al Señor vuestro Dios antes que haga venir las tinieblas, y antes que vuestros pies tropiecen sobre los montes oscuros, y estéis esperando la luz, y El la transforme en profundas tinieblas, la torne en lobreguez.

Give ye to Jehovah your God honour, Before He doth cause darkness, And before your feet stumble on dark mountains, And ye have waited for light, And He hath made it for death-shade, And hath appointed for thick darkness.

17 P ero si no escucháis esto, mi alma sollozará en secreto por tal orgullo; mis ojos llorarán amargamente y se anegarán en lágrimas, porque ha sido hecho cautivo el rebaño del Señor.

And if ye do not hear it, In secret places doth my soul weep, because of pride, Yea, it weepeth sore, And the tear cometh down mine eyes, For the flock of Jehovah hath been taken captive.

18 D i al rey y a la reina madre: Humillaos, sentaos en el suelo, porque ha caído de vuestras cabezas vuestra hermosa corona.

Say to the king and to the mistress: Make yourselves low -- sit still, For come down have your principalities, The crown of your beauty.

19 L as ciudades del Neguev han sido cerradas, y no hay quien las abra: todo Judá ha sido llevado al destierro, llevado al cautiverio en su totalidad.

The cities of the south have been shut up, And there is none opening, Judah hath been removed -- all of her, She hath been removed completely --

20 A lzad vuestros ojos, y ved a los que vienen del norte. ¿Dónde está el rebaño que te fue confiado, tus hermosas ovejas ?

Lift up your eyes, and see those coming in from the north, Where the drove given to thee, thy beautiful flock?

21 ¿ Qué dirás cuando El ponga sobre ti (a los que tú mismo habías enseñado) a antiguos compañeros para ser cabeza tuya ? ¿No te vendrán dolores como de mujer de parto ?

What dost thou say, when He looketh after thee? And thou -- thou hast taught them over thee -- leaders for head? Do not pangs seize thee as a travailing woman?

22 Y si dices en tu corazón: “¿Por qué me han sucedido estas cosas ?” Por la magnitud de tu iniquidad te han quitado las faldas y descubierto tus calcañares.

And when thou dost say in thy heart, `Wherefore have these met me?' For the abundance of thine iniquity Have thy skirts been uncovered, Have thy heels suffered violence.

23 ¿ Puede el etíope mudar su piel, o el leopardo sus manchas ? Así vosotros, ¿podréis hacer el bien estando acostumbrados a hacer el mal ?

Doth a Cushite change his skin? and a leopard his spots? Ye also are able to do good, who are accustomed to do evil.

24 P or tanto, os esparciré como paja arrastrada por el viento del desierto.

And I scatter them as stubble, Passing away, by a wind of the wilderness.

25 E sta es tu suerte, la porción que ya he medido para ti —declara el Señor — porque me has olvidado, y has confiado en la mentira.

This thy lot, the portion of thy measures from Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah, Because thou hast forgotten me, And dost trust in falsehood.

26 P or lo cual yo también te levantaré las faldas sobre tu rostro, para que se vea tu vergüenza.

I also have made bare thy skirts before thy face, And thy shame hath been seen.

27 E n tus adulterios y en tus relinchos, en la bajeza de tu prostitución sobre las colinas del campo, he visto tus abominaciones. ¡Ay de ti, Jerusalén! ¿Hasta cuándo seguirás sin purificarte ?

Thine adulteries, and thy neighings, The wickedness of thy whoredom, on heights in a field, I have seen thine abominations. Wo to thee, O Jerusalem, Thou art not cleansed, after when again?
