1 D espués de haber dicho esto, Jesús salió con sus discípulos al otro lado del torrente Cedrón, donde había un huerto en el cual entró El con sus discípulos.

These things having said, Jesus went forth with his disciples beyond the brook of Kedron, where was a garden, into which he entered, himself and his disciples,

2 T ambién Judas, el que le iba a entregar, conocía el lugar, porque Jesús se había reunido allí a menudo con sus discípulos.

and Judas also, who delivered him up, had known the place, because many times did Jesus assemble there with his disciples.

3 E ntonces Judas, tomando la cohorte romana, y a varios alguaciles de los principales sacerdotes y de los fariseos, fue allá con linternas, antorchas y armas.

Judas, therefore, having taken the band and officers out of the chief priests and Pharisees, doth come thither with torches and lamps, and weapons;

4 J esús, pues, sabiendo todo lo que le iba a sobrevenir, salió y les dijo: ¿A quién buscáis ?

Jesus, therefore, knowing all things that are coming upon him, having gone forth, said to them, `Whom do ye seek?'

5 E llos le respondieron: A Jesús el Nazareno. El les dijo: Yo soy. Y Judas, el que le entregaba, estaba con ellos.

they answered him, `Jesus the Nazarene;' Jesus saith to them, `I am;' -- and Judas who delivered him up was standing with them; --

6 Y cuando El les dijo: Yo soy, retrocedieron y cayeron a tierra.

when, therefore, he said to them -- `I am,' they went away backward, and fell to the ground.

7 J esús entonces volvió a preguntarles: ¿A quién buscáis ? Y ellos dijeron: A Jesús el Nazareno.

Again, therefore, he questioned them, `Whom do ye seek?' and they said, `Jesus the Nazarene;'

8 R espondió Jesús: Os he dicho que yo soy; por tanto, si me buscáis a mí, dejad ir a éstos;

Jesus answered, `I said to you that I am; if, then, me ye seek, suffer these to go away;'

9 p ara que se cumpliera la palabra que había dicho: De los que me diste, no perdí ninguno.

that the word might be fulfilled that he said -- `Those whom Thou hast given to me, I did not lose of them even one.'

10 E ntonces Simón Pedro, que tenía una espada, la sacó e hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote, y le cortó la oreja derecha. El siervo se llamaba Malco.

Simon Peter, therefore, having a sword, drew it, and struck the chief priest's servant, and cut off his right ear -- and the name of the servant was Malchus --

11 J esús entonces dijo a Pedro: Mete la espada en la vaina. La copa que el Padre me ha dado, ¿acaso no la he de beber ?

Jesus, therefore, said to Peter, `Put the sword into the sheath; the cup that the Father hath given to me, may I not drink it?'

12 E ntonces la cohorte romana, el comandante y los alguaciles de los judíos prendieron a Jesús y le ataron,

The band, therefore, and the captain, and the officers of the Jews, took hold on Jesus, and bound him,

13 y le llevaron primero ante Anás, porque era suegro de Caifás, que era sumo sacerdote ese año.

and they led him away to Annas first, for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was chief priest of that year,

14 Y Caifás era el que había aconsejado a los judíos que convenía que un hombre muriera por el pueblo. Primera negación de Pedro

and Caiaphas was he who gave counsel to the Jews, that it is good for one man to perish for the people.

15 Y Simón Pedro seguía a Jesús, y también otro discípulo. Este discípulo era conocido del sumo sacerdote, y entró con Jesús al patio del sumo sacerdote,

And following Jesus was Simon Peter, and the other disciple, and that disciple was known to the chief priest, and he entered with Jesus to the hall of the chief priest,

16 p ero Pedro estaba fuera, a la puerta. Así que el otro discípulo, que era conocido del sumo sacerdote, salió y habló a la portera, e hizo entrar a Pedro.

and Peter was standing at the door without, therefore went forth the other disciple who was known to the chief priest, and he spake to the female keeping the door, and he brought in Peter.

17 E ntonces la criada que cuidaba la puerta dijo a Pedro: ¿No eres tú también uno de los discípulos de este hombre? Y él dijo: No lo soy.

Then said the maid keeping the door to Peter, `Art thou also of the disciples of this man?' he saith, `I am not;'

18 Y los siervos y los alguaciles estaban de pie calentándose junto a unas brasas que habían encendido porque hacía frío; y Pedro estaba también con ellos de pie y calentándose. Jesús ante el sumo sacerdote

and the servants and the officers were standing, having made a fire of coals, because it was cold, and they were warming themselves, and Peter was standing with them, and warming himself.

19 E ntonces el sumo sacerdote interrogó a Jesús acerca de sus discípulos y de sus enseñanzas.

The chief priests, therefore, questioned Jesus concerning his disciples, and concerning his teaching;

20 J esús le respondió: Yo he hablado al mundo abiertamente; siempre enseñé en la sinagoga y en el templo, donde se reúnen todos los judíos, y nada he hablado en secreto.

Jesus answered him, `I spake freely to the world, I did always teach in a synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews do always come together; and in secret I spake nothing;

21 ¿ Por qué me preguntas a mí? Pregúntales a los que han oído lo que hablé; he aquí, éstos saben lo que he dicho.

why me dost thou question? question those having heard what I spake to them; lo, these have known what I said.'

22 C uando dijo esto, uno de los alguaciles que estaba cerca, dio una bofetada a Jesús, diciendo: ¿Así respondes al sumo sacerdote?

And he having said these things, one of the officers standing by did give Jesus a slap, saying, `Thus dost thou answer the chief priest?'

23 J esús le respondió: Si he hablado mal, da testimonio de lo que he hablado mal; pero si hablé bien, ¿por qué me pegas ?

Jesus answered him, `If I spake ill, testify concerning the ill; and if well, why me dost thou smite?'

24 A nás entonces le envió atado a Caifás, el sumo sacerdote. Pedro niega a Jesús otra vez

Annas then sent him bound to Caiaphas the chief priest.

25 S imón Pedro estaba de pie, calentándose; entonces le dijeron: ¿No eres tú también uno de sus discípulos? El lo negó y dijo: No lo soy.

And Simon Peter was standing and warming himself, they said then to him, `Art thou also of his disciples?' he denied, and said, `I am not.'

26 U no de los siervos del sumo sacerdote, que era pariente de aquel a quien Pedro le había cortado la oreja, dijo: ¿No te vi yo en el huerto con El ?

One of the servants of the chief priest, being kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off, saith, `Did not I see thee in the garden with him?'

27 Y Pedro lo negó otra vez, y al instante cantó un gallo. Jesús ante Pilato

again, therefore, Peter denied, and immediately a cock crew.

28 E ntonces llevaron a Jesús de casa de Caifás al Pretorio. Era muy de mañana. Y ellos no entraron al Pretorio para no contaminarse y poder comer la Pascua.

They led, therefore, Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium, and it was early, and they themselves did not enter into the praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but that they might eat the passover;

29 P ilato entonces salió fuera hacia ellos y dijo: ¿Qué acusación traéis contra este hombre?

Pilate, therefore, went forth unto them, and said, `What accusation do ye bring against this man?'

30 E llos respondieron, y le dijeron: Si este hombre no fuera malhechor, no te lo hubiéramos entregado.

they answered and said to him, `If he were not an evil doer, we had not delivered him to thee.'

31 E ntonces Pilato les dijo: Llevadle vosotros, y juzgadle conforme a vuestra ley. Los judíos le dijeron: A nosotros no nos es permitido dar muerte a nadie.

Pilate, therefore, said to them, `Take ye him -- ye -- and according to your law judge him;' the Jews, therefore, said to him, `It is not lawful to us to put any one to death;'

32 P ara que se cumpliera la palabra que Jesús había hablado, dando a entender de qué clase de muerte iba a morir. Diálogo entre Jesús y Pilato

that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which he said, signifying by what death he was about to die.

33 E ntonces Pilato volvió a entrar al Pretorio, y llamó a Jesús y le dijo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos ?

Pilate, therefore, entered into the praetorium again, and called Jesus, and said to him, `Thou art the King of the Jews?'

34 J esús respondió: ¿Esto lo dices por tu cuenta, o porque otros te lo han dicho de mí?

Jesus answered him, `From thyself dost thou say this? or did others say it to thee about me?'

35 P ilato respondió: ¿Acaso soy yo judío? Tu nación y los principales sacerdotes te entregaron a mí. ¿Qué has hecho?

Pilate answered, `Am I a Jew? thy nation, and the chief priests did deliver thee up to me; what didst thou?'

36 J esús respondió: Mi reino no es de este mundo. Si mi reino fuera de este mundo, entonces mis servidores pelearían para que yo no fuera entregado a los judíos; mas ahora mi reino no es de aquí.

Jesus answered, `My kingdom is not of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my officers had struggled that I might not be delivered up to Jews; but now my kingdom is not from hence.'

37 P ilato entonces le dijo: ¿Así que tú eres rey? Jesús respondió: Tú dices que soy rey. Para esto yo he nacido y para esto he venido al mundo, para dar testimonio de la verdad. Todo el que es de la verdad escucha mi voz.

Pilate, therefore, said to him, `Art thou then a king?' Jesus answered, `Thou dost say; because a king I am, I for this have been born, and for this I have come to the world, that I may testify to the truth; every one who is of the truth, doth hear my voice.'

38 P ilato le preguntó: ¿Qué es la verdad? Y habiendo dicho esto, salió otra vez adonde estaban los judíos y les dijo: Yo no encuentro ningún delito en El.

Pilate saith to him, `What is truth?' and this having said, again he went forth unto the Jews, and saith to them, `I do find no fault in him;

39 P ero es costumbre entre vosotros que os suelte a uno en la Pascua. ¿Queréis, pues, que os suelte al Rey de los judíos?

and ye have a custom that I shall release to you one in the passover; will ye, therefore, I shall release to you the king of the Jews?'

40 E ntonces volvieron a gritar, diciendo: No a éste, sino a Barrabás. Y Barrabás era un ladrón.

therefore they all cried out again, saying, `Not this one -- but Barabbas;' and Barabbas was a robber.
