1 Y el hambre iba agravándose en la tierra.

And the famine severe in the land;

2 Y sucedió que cuando acabaron de comer el grano que habían traído de Egipto, su padre les dijo: Volved allá y compradnos un poco de alimento.

and it cometh to pass, when they have finished eating the corn which they brought from Egypt, that their father saith unto them, `Turn back, buy for us a little food.'

3 P ero Judá le respondió, diciendo: Aquel hombre claramente nos advirtió: “No veréis mi rostro si vuestro hermano no está con vosotros.”

And Judah speaketh unto him, saying, `The man protesting protested to us, saying, Ye do not see my face without your brother with you;

4 S i envías a nuestro hermano con nosotros, descenderemos y compraremos alimento;

if thou art sending our brother with us, we go down, and buy for thee food,

5 p ero si no lo envías, no descenderemos; porque el hombre nos dijo: “No veréis mi rostro si vuestro hermano no está con vosotros.”

and if thou art not sending -- we do not go down, for the man said unto us, Ye do not see my face without your brother with you.'

6 E ntonces Israel respondió: ¿Por qué me habéis tratado tan mal, informando al hombre que teníais un hermano más?

And Israel saith, `Why did ye evil to me, by declaring to the man that ye had yet a brother?'

7 P ero ellos dijeron: El hombre nos preguntó específicamente acerca de nosotros y nuestros familiares, diciendo: “¿Vive aún vuestro padre? ¿Tenéis otro hermano?” Y nosotros contestamos sus preguntas. ¿Acaso podíamos nosotros saber que él diría: “Traed a vuestro hermano”?

and they say, `The man asked diligently concerning us, and concerning our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye a brother? and we declare to him according to the tenor of these things; do we certainly know that he will say, Bring down your brother?'

8 Y Judá dijo a su padre Israel: Envía al muchacho conmigo, y nos levantaremos e iremos, para que vivamos y no perezcamos, tanto nosotros como tú y nuestros pequeños.

And Judah saith unto Israel his father, `Send the youth with me, and we arise, and go, and live, and do not die, both we, and thou, and our infants.

9 Y o me haré responsable de él; de mi mano lo demandarás. Si yo no te lo vuelvo a traer y lo pongo delante de ti, que lleve yo la culpa para siempre delante de ti;

I -- I am surety him, from my hand thou dost require him; if I have not brought him in unto thee, and set him before thee -- then I have sinned against thee all the days;

10 p orque si no hubiéramos perdido tiempo, sin duda ya habríamos vuelto dos veces.

for if we had not lingered, surely now we had returned these two times.'

11 E ntonces su padre Israel les dijo: Si así tiene que ser, haced esto: tomad de los mejores productos de la tierra en vuestras vasijas, y llevad a aquel hombre como presente un poco de bálsamo y un poco de miel, resina aromática, mirra, nueces y almendras.

And Israel their father saith unto them, `If so, now, this do: take of the praised thing of the land in your vessels, and take down to the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts and almonds;

12 Y tomad doble cantidad de dinero en vuestra mano, y llevad de nuevo en vuestra mano el dinero que fue devuelto en la boca de vuestros costales; tal vez fue un error.

and double money take in your hand, even the money which is brought back in the mouth of your bags, ye take back in your hand, it may be it an oversight.

13 T omad también a vuestro hermano, levantaos y volved a aquel hombre;

`And take your brother, and rise, turn back unto the man;

14 y que el Dios Todopoderoso os conceda misericordia ante aquel hombre para que ponga en libertad al otro hermano vuestro y a Benjamín. En cuanto a mí, si he de ser privado de mis hijos, que así sea.

and God Almighty give to you mercies before the man, so that he hath sent to you your other brother and Benjamin; and I, when I am bereaved -- I am bereaved.'

15 T omaron, pues, los hombres este presente, y tomaron doble cantidad de dinero en su mano y a Benjamín, y se levantaron y descendieron a Egipto y se presentaron delante de José. José y Benjamín

And the men take this present, double money also they have taken in their hand, and Benjamin; and they rise, and go down to Egypt, and stand before Joseph;

16 C uando José vio a Benjamín con ellos, dijo al mayordomo de su casa: Haz entrar a estos hombres a casa, y mata un animal y prepára lo, porque estos hombres comerán conmigo al mediodía.

and Joseph seeth Benjamin with them, and saith to him who over his house, `Bring the men into the house, and slaughter an animal, and make ready, for with me do the men eat at noon.'

17 E l hombre hizo como José le dijo, y llevó a los hombres a casa de José.

And the man doth as Joseph hath said, and the man bringeth in the men into the house of Joseph,

18 Y los hombres tenían miedo porque eran llevados a casa de José y dijeron: Por causa del dinero que fue devuelto en nuestros costales la primera vez hemos sido traídos aquí, para tener pretexto contra nosotros y caer sobre nosotros y tomarnos por esclavos con nuestros asnos.

and the men are afraid because they have been brought into the house of Joseph, and they say, `For the matter of the money which was put back in our bags at the commencement are we brought in -- to roll himself upon us, and to throw himself on us, and to take us for servants -- our asses also.'

19 E ntonces se acercaron al mayordomo de la casa de José, y le hablaron a la entrada de la casa,

And they come nigh unto the man who over the house of Joseph, and speak unto him at the opening of the house,

20 y dijeron: Oh señor mío, ciertamente descendimos la primera vez para comprar alimentos;

and say, `O, my lord, we really come down at the commencement to buy food;

21 y sucedió que cuando llegamos a la posada, abrimos nuestros costales, y he aquí, el dinero de cada uno estaba en la boca de su costal, todo nuestro dinero. Así que lo hemos vuelto a traer en nuestra mano.

and it cometh to pass, when we have come in unto the lodging-place, and open our bags, that lo, each one's money in the mouth of his bag, our money in its weight, and we bring it back in our hand;

22 T ambién hemos traído otro dinero en nuestra mano para comprar alimentos; no sabemos quién puso nuestro dinero en nuestros costales.

and other money have we brought down in our hand to buy food; we have not known who put our money in our bags.'

23 Y él dijo: No os preocupéis, no temáis. Vuestro Dios y el Dios de vuestro padre os ha dado ese tesoro en vuestros costales; yo recibí vuestro dinero. Entonces les sacó a Simeón.

And he saith, `Peace to you, fear not: your God and the God of your father hath given to you hidden treasure in your bags, your money came unto me;' and he bringeth out Simeon unto them.

24 D espués el hombre llevó a los hombres a casa de José, y les dio agua y se lavaron los pies; y dio forraje a sus asnos.

And the man bringeth in the men into Joseph's house, and giveth water, and they wash their feet; and he giveth provender for their asses,

25 E ntonces prepararon el presente para la venida de José al mediodía; pues habían oído que iban a comer allí.

and they prepare the present until the coming of Joseph at noon, for they have heard that there they do eat bread.

26 C uando José regresó a casa, le trajeron el presente que tenían en su mano a la casa y se postraron ante él en tierra.

And Joseph cometh into the house, and they bring to him the present which in their hand, into the house, and bow themselves to him, to the earth;

27 E ntonces él les preguntó cómo se encontraban, y dijo: ¿Cómo está vuestro anciano padre de quien me hablasteis? ¿Vive todavía ?

and he asketh of them of peace, and saith, `Is your father well? the aged man of whom ye have spoken, is he yet alive?'

28 Y ellos dijeron: Tu siervo nuestro padre está bien; todavía vive. Y ellos se inclinaron en reverencia.

and they say, `Thy servant our father well, he is yet alive;' and they bow, and do obeisance.

29 A l alzar él sus ojos y ver a su hermano Benjamín, hijo de su madre, dijo: ¿Es éste vuestro hermano menor de quien me hablasteis ? Y dijo: Dios te imparta su favor, hijo mío.

And he lifteth up his eyes, and seeth Benjamin his brother, his mother's son, and saith, `Is this your young brother, of whom ye have spoken unto me?' and he saith, `God favour thee, my son.'

30 Y José se apresuró a salir, pues se sintió profundamente conmovido a causa de su hermano y buscó donde llorar; y entró en su aposento y lloró allí.

And Joseph hasteth, for his bowels have been moved for his brother, and he seeketh to weep, and entereth the inner chamber, and weepeth there;

31 D espués se lavó la cara y salió, y controlándose, dijo: Servid la comida.

and he washeth his face, and goeth out, and refraineth himself, and saith, `Place bread.'

32 Y le sirvieron a él aparte, y a ellos aparte, y a los egipcios que comían con él, también aparte; porque los egipcios no podían comer con los hebreos, pues esto es abominación para los egipcios.

And they place for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians who are eating with him by themselves: for the Egyptians are unable to eat bread with the Hebrews, for it an abomination to the Egyptians.

33 Y los sentaron delante de él, el primogénito conforme a su primogenitura, y el más joven conforme a su juventud, y los hombres se miraban unos a otros con asombro.

And they sit before him, the first-born according to his birthright, and the young one according to his youth, and the men wonder one at another;

34 E l les llevó porciones de su propia mesa, pero la porción de Benjamín era cinco veces mayor que la de cualquiera de ellos. Bebieron, pues, y se alegraron con él.

and he lifteth up gifts from before him unto them, and the gift of Benjamin is five hands more than the gifts of all of them; and they drink, yea, they drink abundantly with him.
