1 I n the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

En el año treinta y seis del reinado de Asa, el rey Basá de Israel se lanzó contra Judá y, para impedir que nadie llegara en ayuda del rey Asa de Judá, ni tampoco pudiera huir, fortificó la ciudad de Ramá,

2 T hen Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of Jehovah and of the king's house, and sent to Ben-hadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

Asa sacó entonces el oro y la plata que había en los tesoros del templo del Señor y en el palacio real, y los envió al rey Ben Adad de Siria, que estaba en Damasco, con este mensaje:

3 T here is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

«Hagamos tú y yo un pacto, como el que hicieron tu padre y el mío. Aquí te envío oro y plata. Ven y rompe el pacto que has hecho con el rey Basá de Israel, para que deje de atacarme.»

4 A nd Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-maim, and all the store-cities of Naphtali.

Ben Adad aceptó la propuesta del rey Asa, y ordenó a los capitanes de sus ejércitos que atacaran las ciudades de Israel. Así conquistaron Iyón, Dan, Abel Mayin y las ciudades de aprovisionamiento de Neftalí.

5 A nd it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building Ramah, and let his work cease.

En cuanto Basá supo esto, suspendió las obras de construcción en Ramá.

6 T hen Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.

Entonces el rey Asa agrupó a todo Judá para llevarse de Ramá la piedra y la madera con que Basá estaba edificando, y con ese material edificó a Geba y a Mispá.

7 A nd at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and hast not relied on Jehovah thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thy hand.

Por eso días el vidente Jananí llegó a ver al rey Asa de Judá, y le dijo: «Tú, lejos de apoyarte en el Señor tu Dios, has buscado el apoyo del rey de Siria. Por eso el ejército del rey de Siria se te ha escapado de las manos.

8 W ere not the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge host, with chariots and horsemen exceeding many? yet, because thou didst rely on Jehovah, he delivered them into thy hand.

¿Acaso los etíopes y los libios no eran un ejército incontable, con carros de guerra y mucha gente de a caballo? Sin embargo, el Señor los puso en tus manos porque te apoyaste en él.

9 F or the eyes of Jehovah run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly; for from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Los ojos del Señor están contemplando toda la tierra, para mostrar su poder a favor de los que mantienen hacia él un corazón perfecto. Pero en este caso tú has actuado como un necio. Por eso, de ahora en adelante te verás envuelto en más guerras.»

10 T hen Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in the prison-house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

Asa se enojó contra el vidente, y tan grande fue su enojo que lo echó en la cárcel. Por eso días, Asa oprimió también a algunos del pueblo. Muerte de Asa

11 A nd, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

Los primeros y los últimos hechos de Asa se hallan registrados en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.

12 A nd in the thirty and ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet; his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to Jehovah, but to the physicians.

En el año treinta y nueve de su reinado, Asa enfermó gravemente de los pies, y en su enfermedad no buscó al Señor, sino a los médicos.

13 A nd Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.

Finalmente, Asa descansó entre sus antepasados en el año cuarenta y uno de su reinado,

14 A nd they buried him in his own sepulchres, which he had hewn out for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and divers kinds of spices prepared by the perfumers' art: and they made a very great burning for him.

y fue sepultado en los sepulcros que él mismo había mandado construir en la ciudad de David. Lo pusieron en un ataúd, el cual fue llenado de perfumes y diversas especias aromáticas, preparadas por perfumistas expertos, y en su honor se prendió una enorme hoguera.
