1 S imon Petru, rob şi apostol al lui Isus Cristos, către cei care, prin dreptatea Dumnezeului şi Mântuitorului nostru Isus Cristos, au primit o credinţă la fel de preţioasă ca a noastră:

Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained a like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and the Saviour Jesus Christ:

2 h arul şi pacea să vă fie înmulţite prin cunoaşterea lui Dumnezeu şi a lui Isus, Domnul nostru! Chemarea şi alegerea creştinului

Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

3 D umnezeiasca Lui putere ne-a dăruit toate lucrurile necesare pentru viaţă şi evlavie, prin cunoaşterea Celui Ce ne-a chemat prin slava şi virtutea Lui.

seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue;

4 P rin aceste lucruri, El ne-a dăruit promisiunile Lui preţioase şi foarte mari, pentru ca, prin acestea, scăpând de depravarea care este în lume din cauza poftelor, să deveniţi părtaşi ai naturii dumnezeieşti.

whereby he hath granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in that world by lust.

5 D e aceea, daţi-vă toată silinţa să adăugaţi la credinţa voastră virtutea, la virtute – cunoaşterea,

Yea, and for this very cause adding on your part all diligence, in your faith supply virtue; and in your virtue knowledge;

6 l a cunoaştere – înfrânarea, la înfrânare – răbdarea, la răbdare – evlavia,

and in your knowledge self-control; and in your self-control patience; and in your patience godliness;

7 l a evlavie – dragostea frăţească, iar la dragostea frăţească – dragostea de oameni.

and in your godliness brotherly kindness; and in your brotherly kindness love.

8 C ăci dacă aceste lucruri sunt într-adevăr ale voastre şi abundă printre voi, ele nu vă vor lăsa să fiţi nici ineficienţi, nici neroditori în ce priveşte cunoaşterea Domnului nostru Isus Cristos.

For if these things are yours and abound, they make you to be not idle nor unfruitful unto the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

9 D ar cel căruia îi lipsesc aceste lucruri este orb, sau cel puţin miop; a uitat că a primit curăţirea de vechile lui păcate.

For he that lacketh these things is blind, seeing only what is near, having forgotten the cleansing from his old sins.

10 D e aceea, fraţilor, străduiţi-vă chiar mai mult să vă întăriţi chemarea şi alegerea voastră, pentru că, făcând aceste lucruri, nu vă veţi împiedica niciodată!

Wherefore, brethren, give the more diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never stumble:

11 C ăci astfel vă va fi acordată din belşug intrarea în Împărăţia veşnică a Domnului şi Mântuitorului nostru Isus Cristos. Martori ai slavei lui Cristos

for thus shall be richly supplied unto you the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

12 D e aceea voi fi gata să vă reamintesc întotdeauna aceste lucruri, măcar că le ştiţi şi sunteţi bine fundamentaţi în adevărul pe care-l deţineţi.

Wherefore I shall be ready always to put you in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and are established in the truth which is with you.

13 D ar consider că este drept ca, atâta timp cât sunt în cortul acesta, să vă reîmprospătez memoria,

And I think it right, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

14 î ntrucât ştiu că mutarea cortului meu este iminentă, după cum mi-a făcut clar Domnul nostru Isus Cristos.

knowing that the putting off of my tabernacle cometh swiftly, even as our Lord Jesus Christ signified unto me.

15 M ă voi strădui deci să vă fac să păstraţi în amintire aceste lucruri şi după plecarea mea.

Yea, I will give diligence that at every time ye may be able after my decease to call these things to remembrance.

16 C ăci v-am făcut cunoscută puterea şi venirea Domnului nostru Isus Cristos, nu urmând nişte mituri alcătuite cu îndemânare, ci noi am fost martori oculari ai măreţiei Lui.

For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

17 E l a primit onoare şi slavă de la Dumnezeu Tatăl, atunci când, din slava sublimă, I s-a adresat un glas care zicea: „Acesta este Fiul Meu preaiubit în Care-Mi găsesc plăcerea!“

For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there was borne such a voice to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased:

18 N oi înşine am auzit acest glas adresându-se din cer, în timp ce eram cu El pe muntele cel sfânt.

and this voice we ourselves heard borne out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.

19 Ş i avem, de asemenea, mesajul profetic demn de încredere, la care bine faceţi că luaţi aminte, pentru că este ca o lampă care luminează într-un loc întunecos, până când zorii şi steaua de dimineaţă vor răsări în inimile voastre.

And we have the word of prophecy made more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:

20 Î nainte de toate, trebuie să ştiţi că nici o profeţie din Scriptură nu s-a născut din propria imaginaţie a cuiva.

knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation.

21 C ăci nici o profeţie n-a fost adusă vreodată prin voia omului, ci oamenii au vorbit de la Dumnezeu, conduşi de Duhul Sfânt.

For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
