1 D avide rivolse al Signore le parole di questo canto quando il Signore lo liberò dalla mano di tutti i suoi nemici e dalla mano di Saul. Egli disse:

David spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul,

2 « Il Signore è la mia rocca, la mia fortezza, il mio liberatore;

and he said: “Yahweh is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, even mine;

3 i l mio Dio, la mia rupe in cui mi rifugio, il mio scudo, il mio potente salvatore, il mio alto rifugio, il mio asilo. O mio salvatore, tu mi salvi dalla violenza!

God is my rock in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge. My savior, you save me from violence.

4 I o invocai il Signore, che è degno di ogni lode, e fui salvato dai miei nemici.

I call on Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.

5 L e onde della morte mi avevano circondato e i torrenti della distruzione mi avevano spaventato.

For the waves of death surrounded me. The floods of ungodliness made me afraid.

6 I legami del soggiorno dei morti mi avevano attorniato, i lacci della morte mi avevano sorpreso.

The cords of Sheol were around me. The snares of death caught me.

7 N ella mia angoscia invocai il Signore, gridai al mio Dio. Egli udì la mia voce dal suo tempio. Il mio grido giunse ai suoi orecchi.

In my distress, I called on Yahweh. Yes, I called to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple. My cry came into his ears.

8 A llora la terra fu scossa e tremò, le fondamenta dei cieli furono smosse e scrollate, perché egli era colmo di sdegno.

Then the earth shook and trembled. The foundations of heaven quaked and were shaken, because he was angry.

9 U n fumo saliva dalle sue narici; un fuoco consumante gli usciva dalla bocca, e ne venivano fuori carboni accesi.

Smoke went up out of his nostrils. Consuming fire came out of his mouth. Coals were kindled by it.

10 E gli abbassò i cieli e discese, avendo sotto i piedi una densa caligine.

He bowed the heavens also, and came down. Thick darkness was under his feet.

11 C avalcava un cherubino e volava; appariva sulle ali del vento.

He rode on a cherub, and flew. Yes, he was seen on the wings of the wind.

12 D elle tenebre s’era fatto una tenda, s’era circondato di masse d’acqua e di dense nubi.

He made darkness a shelter around himself: gathering of waters, and thick clouds of the skies.

13 D allo splendore che lo precedeva si sprigionavano carboni accesi.

At the brightness before him, coals of fire were kindled.

14 I l Signore tonò dai cieli. L’Altissimo fece udire la sua voce.

Yahweh thundered from heaven. The Most High uttered his voice.

15 S cagliò frecce e disperse i nemici; lanciò folgori e li mise in rotta.

He sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and confused them.

16 A llora apparve il fondo del mare, e le fondamenta del mondo furono scoperte dal rimprovero del Signore, al soffio del vento delle sue narici.

Then the channels of the sea appeared. The foundations of the world were laid bare by Yahweh’s rebuke, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

17 E gli tese dall’alto la mano e mi prese, mi trasse fuori dalle grandi acque.

He sent from on high and he took me. He drew me out of many waters.

18 M i liberò dal mio potente nemico e da quelli che mi odiavano, perché erano più forti di me.

He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me.

19 E ssi mi erano piombati addosso nel giorno della mia calamità, ma il Signore fu il mio sostegno.

They came on me in the day of my calamity, but Yahweh was my support.

20 E gli mi trasse fuori al largo, mi liberò, perché mi gradisce.

He also brought me out into a large place. He delivered me, because he delighted in me.

21 I l Signore mi ha ricompensato secondo la mia giustizia, mi ha reso secondo la purezza delle mie mani,

Yahweh rewarded me according to my righteousness. He rewarded me according to the cleanness of my hands.

22 p erché ho osservato le vie del Signore e non mi sono empiamente sviato dal mio Dio.

For I have kept Yahweh’s ways, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

23 I nfatti ho tenuto tutte le sue leggi davanti a me e non mi sono allontanato dai suoi precetti.

For all his ordinances were before me. As for his statutes, I did not depart from them.

24 S ono stato integro verso di lui e mi sono guardato dalla mia iniquità.

I was also perfect toward him. I kept myself from my iniquity.

25 P erciò il Signore mi ha ripagato secondo la mia giustizia, secondo la mia purezza davanti a lui.

Therefore Yahweh has rewarded me according to my righteousness, According to my cleanness in his eyesight.

26 T u ti mostri leale verso chi è leale, integro verso l’uomo integro;

With the merciful you will show yourself merciful. With the perfect man you will show yourself perfect.

27 t i mostri puro con il puro e ti mostri astuto con il perverso;

With the pure you will show yourself pure. With the crooked you will show yourself shrewd.

28 t u salvi la gente afflitta, ma il tuo sguardo si ferma sugli alteri, per abbassarli.

You will save the afflicted people, But your eyes are on the haughty, that you may bring them down.

29 S ì, tu sei la mia lampada, o Signore, e il Signore illumina le mie tenebre.

For you are my lamp, Yahweh. Yahweh will light up my darkness.

30 C on te io assalgo i bastioni, con il mio Dio salgo sulle mura.

For by you, I run against a troop. By my God, I leap over a wall.

31 L a via di Dio è perfetta, la parola del Signore è purificata con il fuoco. Egli è lo scudo di quelli che si rifugiano in lui.

As for God, his way is perfect. Yahweh’s word is tested. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in him.

32 I nfatti chi è Dio all’infuori del Signore ? Chi è rocca all’infuori del nostro Dio?

For who is God, besides Yahweh? Who is a rock, besides our God?

33 D io è la mia potente fortezza e rende la mia via diritta.

God is my strong fortress. He makes my way perfect.

34 E gli rende i miei piedi simili a quelli delle cerve e mi rende saldo sulle mie montagne.

He makes his feet like hinds’ feet, and sets me on my high places.

35 E gli addestra le mie mani alla battaglia e le mie braccia tendono un arco di bronzo.

He teaches my hands to war, so that my arms bend a bow of brass.

36 T u mi hai anche dato lo scudo della tua salvezza e la tua bontà mi ha reso grande.

You have also given me the shield of your salvation. Your gentleness has made me great.

37 T u hai allargato la via ai miei passi e i miei piedi non hanno vacillato.

You have enlarged my steps under me. My feet have not slipped.

38 I o ho inseguito i miei nemici e li ho distrutti. Non sono tornato indietro prima di averli sterminati.

I have pursued my enemies and destroyed them. I didn’t turn again until they were consumed.

39 L i ho annientati, schiacciati; non sono risorti; sono caduti sotto i miei piedi.

I have consumed them, and struck them through, so that they can’t arise. Yes, they have fallen under my feet.

40 T u mi hai cinto di forza per la guerra, tu hai fatto piegare sotto di me i miei avversari;

For you have armed me with strength for the battle. You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.

41 h ai fatto voltare le spalle davanti a me ai miei nemici; ho distrutto quelli che mi odiavano.

You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, that I might cut off those who hate me.

42 H anno gridato aiuto, ma nessuno li ha salvati; hanno gridato al Signore, ma egli non ha risposto.

They looked, but there was no one to save; even to Yahweh, but he didn’t answer them.

43 I o li ho tritati come polvere della terra, li ho pestati, calpestati, come il fango delle strade.

Then I beat them as small as the dust of the earth. I crushed them as the mire of the streets, and spread them abroad.

44 T u mi hai liberato dal mio popolo in rivolta, mi hai conservato capo di nazioni; un popolo che non conoscevo mi è stato sottomesso.

You also have delivered me from the strivings of my people. You have kept me to be the head of the nations. A people whom I have not known will serve me.

45 I figli degli stranieri mi hanno reso omaggio, al solo udir parlare di me, mi hanno ubbidito.

The foreigners will submit themselves to me. As soon as they hear of me, they will obey me.

46 I figli degli stranieri si son persi d’animo, sono usciti tremanti dai loro nascondigli.

The foreigners will fade away, and will come trembling out of their close places.

47 V iva il Signore! Sia benedetta la mia Rocca! Sia esaltato Dio, la rocca della mia salvezza,

Yahweh lives! Blessed be my rock! Exalted be God, the rock of my salvation,

48 i l Dio che fa la mia vendetta e mi sottomette i popoli,

even the God who executes vengeance for me, who brings down peoples under me,

49 c he mi libera dai miei nemici. Sì, tu m’innalzi sopra i miei avversari, mi salvi dall’uomo violento.

who brings me away from my enemies. Yes, you lift me up above those who rise up against me. You deliver me from the violent man.

50 P erciò, o Signore, ti loderò tra le nazioni e salmeggerò al tuo nome.

Therefore I will give thanks to you, Yahweh, among the nations, and will sing praises to your name.

51 G randi liberazioni egli accorda al suo re e usa bontà verso il suo unto, verso Davide e la sua discendenza per sempre».

He gives great deliverance to his king, and shows loving kindness to his anointed, to David and to his offspring, forever more.”
