1 P oi Dio disse a Mosè: «Sali verso il Signore, tu e Aaronne, Nadab e Abiu, e settanta degli anziani d’Israele, e adorate da lontano;

He said to Moses, “Come up to Yahweh, you, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship from a distance.

2 p oi Mosè solo avanzerà verso il Signore; ma gli altri non si avvicineranno e neppure il popolo salirà con lui».

Moses alone shall come near to Yahweh, but they shall not come near. The people shall not go up with him.”

3 M osè andò a riferire al popolo tutte le parole del Signore e tutte le leggi; e tutto il popolo rispose a una voce e disse: «Noi faremo tutte le cose che il Signore ha dette».

Moses came and told the people all Yahweh’s words, and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, “All the words which Yahweh has spoken will we do.”

4 M osè scrisse tutte le parole del Signore. Poi si alzò la mattina presto e costruì ai piedi del monte un altare e dodici pietre per le dodici tribù d’Israele.

Moses wrote all Yahweh’s words, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar under the mountain, and twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.

5 M andò dei giovani israeliti a offrire olocausti e a immolare tori come sacrifici di riconoscenza al Signore.

He sent young men of the children of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of cattle to Yahweh.

6 M osè prese metà del sangue e la mise in catini; l’altra metà la sparse sull’altare.

Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar.

7 P oi prese il libro del patto e lo lesse in presenza del popolo, il quale disse: «Noi faremo tutto quello che il Signore ha detto e ubbidiremo».

He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “All that Yahweh has spoken will we do, and be obedient.”

8 A llora Mosè prese il sangue, ne asperse il popolo e disse: «Ecco il sangue del patto che il Signore ha fatto con voi sul fondamento di tutte queste parole».

Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Yahweh has made with you concerning all these words.”

9 P oi Mosè e Aaronne, Nadab e Abiu e settanta degli anziani d’Israele salirono

Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up.

10 e videro il Dio d’Israele. Sotto i suoi piedi vi era come un pavimento lavorato in trasparente zaffiro, e simile, per limpidezza, al cielo stesso.

They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was like a paved work of sapphire stone, like the skies for clearness.

11 M a egli non stese la sua mano contro quegli eletti dei figli d’Israele; anzi essi videro Dio, e mangiarono e bevvero.

He didn’t lay his hand on the nobles of the children of Israel. They saw God, and ate and drank.

12 I l Signore disse a Mosè: «Sali da me sul monte e fèrmati qui; io ti darò delle tavole di pietra, la legge e i comandamenti che ho scritto, perché siano insegnati ai figli d’Israele».

Yahweh said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them.”

13 M osè dunque si alzò con Giosuè suo aiutante; Mosè salì sul monte di Dio

Moses rose up with Joshua, his servant, and Moses went up onto God’s Mountain.

14 e disse agli anziani: «Aspettateci qui, finché non torneremo da voi. Aaronne e Cur sono con voi; chiunque abbia qualche problema si rivolga a loro».

He said to the elders, “Wait here for us, until we come again to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever is involved in a dispute can go to them.”

15 M osè dunque salì sul monte e la nuvola ricoprì il monte.

Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

16 L a gloria del Signore rimase sul monte Sinai e la nuvola lo coprì per sei giorni. Il settimo giorno il Signore chiamò Mosè di mezzo alla nuvola.

Yahweh’s glory settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. The seventh day he called to Moses out of the middle of the cloud.

17 A i figli d’Israele la gloria del Signore appariva come un fuoco divorante sulla cima del monte.

The appearance of Yahweh’s glory was like devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.

18 M osè entrò in mezzo alla nuvola e salì sul monte; Mosè rimase sul monte quaranta giorni e quaranta notti.

Moses entered into the middle of the cloud, and went up on the mountain; and Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
